Our Parish Mission: Christ calls our parish family to be a
beacon of hope in a rapidly changing community.
“Your faith has saved you. Go in
peace.”
Opening The doors Of His Mercy Catholic Sharing Appeal to fund the collective ministries as the Church of West Virginia continues
toward our diocesan Goal of $1.7 million. This money will support: Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Catholic Education and Catholic Charities all over the state of West Virginia.
Each of these is beyond the capabilities and reach of any one parish and thus is a responsibility of
all Catholics in our statewide diocese.
As a Diocese we have reached 61% of the goal and now as a parish we have reached 50% of our
goal of $29,025. This means that any additional money that now comes into the Campaign will come to our parish! Please take the time to complete the mailer sent to your home and make some
contribution to the Catholic Sharing Appeal. We are doing our part to help the Catholic Community of West Virginia serve the needs of our state and do the work of Christ here. We are
also helping our parish community continue to flourish.
May God bless the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and Saint Paul Parish.
A WORD OF FAREWELL AND GRATITUDE
Back in January I asked the Bishop if he could send me a priest to assist me in the parish for a few months as I dealt with some personal and family
health issues. Little did I know he would send me a brother priest who would not only provide the needed help, but in a short time become a good friend
as well. Fr. Biju Devassy arrived in February and immediately relieved me of responsibility for several weekend masses and all the weekday masses thus allowing me time and energy to tend to medical matters. He enthusiastically took on visitation of the hospitalized and went on sick calls to hospitals and homes with the help of his trusty car GPS — though once a little help was
needed to find the correct anointee! At the rectory, we had great fun testing a few Indian dishes and making sure they were not too hot for my American
palate. We also had to discuss the exact shade of “kaki” trousers for a priest’s wardrobe. Having Fr. Biju as a housemate these couple of months
has been a delight for one who has grown used to living alone and I will surely miss his company, especially our quiet times on the front porch as the
cicadas do their thing on the hillside.
Father Biju will be taking on his own parish responsibilities in our diocese with parishes in Montgomery-Boomer and in Belle-Coalburg. He also
eventually hopes to do some study before returning to his own diocese in India. This summer he will also be able to return home for a gathering with
his parents and siblings for a much deserved break. While I hate to see him leave this week, I am so grateful for Fr. Biju’s help these past months. He
knows he will always have that gratitude as well as my friendship and a welcome here at St. Paul’s.

NEVER ALONE
The local support group for parents, family, friends and community interested in drug and alcohol addiction is now meeting here at St. Paul’s in our parish office conference room on Monday
evenings at 6:00. This wonderful group has been providing encouragement as well as education and support to those in our area struggling with issues related especially to the abuse of
substances. If you have these issues in your family or know someone who does, come on Mondays to find a welcoming group of folks, many of whom have been there and/or are there!
TABLE OF HOPE
Free Hot Meals are provided at First Methodist Church on West Street 5-6 pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Everyone is welcome to come to share
the meal and the fellowship. Our next parish day to serve will be June 24th. Once again we need your help. A sign up sheet is in the back of the church.
COMMUNITY BREAD B ASKET
Don’t forget to continue bringing non-perishable foods, soaps, paper products for distribution at our ecumenical food pantry. This month we are asked to bring
spaghetti noodles & sauce.
The good ole summertime—lazy, hazy days of summer! How will we use them? Read a book to improve the mind?
Improve physical health? Make a new friend? Sit around and add more pounds?
This week: Eleventh Sunday In Ordinary Time
2 Samuel 12:7-10,13; Galatians 2:16,19-21; Luke 7:36-8:3
Background: No wonder the Pharisees had a tough time
wrapping their minds around Jesus’ idea of mercy and forgiveness!
A prostitute, for heavens sake! And wiping out a debt of five
hundred days wages—that’s two years pay! And what’s with all
these women trooping around with Jesus and his followers—it is
unseemly! If we truly followed his example today would his
message and behavior be any less upsetting to righteous people?
Next Week: Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Zechariah 12:10-11,13:1; Galatians 3:26-29
Adult Bible Study Please join Fr. Larry and others as we study the Gospel of the coming week on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm in
