Well, we had 78 cars to-tal, which, for a rainy day, is pretty good. About $900 was raised for Blue Ridge Hospice, and a good time was had by all. Here are some pics taken by Steve (white C4), aka 'ruffneckxx'.

Thank you to those of you who braved the weather...I enjoyed your company! I spent today washing Lil-Red and recuperating from an ex-hausting Saturday. Onward to Fall Skyline in 6 months!

Fellow vetters!

Spring has finally arrived, although it doesn’t seem real happy to be here. Maybe the sun isn’t nice and warm yet, but the pollen sure has covered the car! And a 7 hour detail on just the outside of the car was warmly greeted by a passing bird. (sigh)

We’ve got a few events coming up quickly, and this club has got to get motivated. We have a free picnic in Loudoun, and the HPDE and Concourse are rapidly approaching. The High Performance Driving Event is a great idea and I think is an event this club will be latch onto.

The Rallye side is going well (thank you Marsha!), and seems to be taking off as well. Maybe this year we can have an event that Joe Daly doesn’t win, please?

Overall, membership is up, and things seem to be go-ing in positive directions. We even had almost as many new prospects show up at the last GBM than members! Ooh Rah!

Let’s get those cars out and shined, and get into gear!

President, NVCC

WAZZUP!

By George Kerns, VP

Ah, can you smell it! Can you feel it! Can you see it! Spring has finally arrived, and let me be the first to say; IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! I was running out of things to do around the garage because the winter was so long. The one thing that I can say about winter is that it gives you a chance to really observe peo-ple to see how they handle “cabin fever” so to speak. By the time April rolls around every one of us are like little cubs waiting to wander out into the wild blue yonder, or in some peoples cases get thrown out on your rear ends, and told not to come back until fall!

Within the club there are a lot of new and exciting things brewing. There is a little something for everyone going on this year. Laurie is busy setting up the social calendar. Marsha has been working with Dick to get an exciting season of rallying on the way. Jim is putting the auto-x schedule together. Judy has been busy with the membership enrolment. Jeff has been work-ing with the Special Olympic. Jim B. is always coming up with the latest scoops for the newsletter. Paul as usual is counting his beans, and I myself have been running around setting up events for the club along with charity work.

I would like to put out an “all call” to members of the club to get involved with either helping with, or holding an event with the club. Some of the elder (long time members) members of the club have been working their tails off for the last several years setting up, and working events for the club without being able to enjoy all the events like everyone else. It’s time for some of the younger (newer) members to step up and share some of the responsibilities, and let some of the others relax, and enjoy for a while. If anyone is interested in helping out please let my-self, or any of the board members know because we are always looking for willing and able bodies.

Over the last couple of months we as a club have been picking up a lot of new members, and the last GBM was proof of that! I think we had 7-8 brand new prospective members attend the last meeting which for those who don’t know is a lot of new people. Judy our membership director has also been overloading my e-mail box with prospective members. I just wanted to say welcome to all the new faces in the club, and we a looking for-ward to having you all along for the ride!

OK boys, and girls it’s time to take your tops off, get comfort-able, and let’s cruise!

Until next time, just remember if it’s too fast, you’re too old!

George

Fellow Corvetters:Two items that might be of interest to you.

The next round of the American Le Man Series will be held at the historic Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on May 22. The race will be televised on CBS.

The attachment shows exactly where the spy black box is. It's not black but you see the yellow connector to a box that look like a hard drive behind the shifter. It hold s a certain amount of data that the insurance companies are beginning to use in the instance of an accident.

Don Patrick

1999 Torch Red/Black Targa/Auto

Ed. This turned out NOT to be as stated but actually the airbag sensor!

All,

I think Andrej has come up with a very good description/definition of a HPDE event. If we are going to make a glossary of terms I think this should be added.

HPDE = High Performance Driving Event

At an HPDE you learn to drive your car on a road race track as if you were a race car driver. Novices and Intermediates have instructors sitting beside them at all times to guide you as you learn to drive at race speeds. It is as safe an environment as you can get to learn how to drive on a road race track. This is not street driving we are talking about, and it is not an all out race either. You will be expected to drive as close to race speeds in the straights and turns as you can. We have very limited passing, strictly enforced. Corner workers with flags, ambulances and wreckers maintain safety. You will be wearing a helmet, be buckled in and wearing long sleeved shirts, long pants and real shoes. Yes, your car has to pass tech too.

This can become seriously addicting as you progress and transition to driving fast on a race track at race speeds. You are not expected to drive like Mario Andretti by the end of this class, but you might get a good idea of what all is involved in HPDEs (and racing).

Corvette C6-R Finishes 1 & 2 at Road Atlanta

Corvette Racing made history the other weekend at Road Atlanta when Johnny O'Connell and Ron Fellows drove the new Corvette C6-R to its first victory.

Following in the tire tracks of the championship-winning Corvette C5-R, the production-based Corvette C6-R notched Corvette Racing's 36th win at the Sportsbook.com Grand Prix of Atlanta. Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta were second across the strip to score a 1-2 finish for Corvette Racing. “Ron and I were able to get the last win in the C5-R, and to get the first win with the C6-R at my home track is very special," said O'Connell, who lives seven miles from the Road Atlanta circuit. "I knew in qualifying that this was the best car I've driven since I joined Cor-vette Racing. Ron and I did what we always do - push as hard as we can and stay out of trouble. " Fellows concurred: "It's been a tremendous team effort by Corvette Racing since I joined the program in November 1997. I'm really proud to be part of it. I want to dedicate this win to an old friend who died last week," Fellows said. "He built a race track in Ontario and gave a lot of us a place to race. This one's for John Nelson. " The next round of the American Le Man Series will be contested at the historic Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on May 22. The race will be tele-vised on CBS. President – Jeff Kirk The Club Trailer was brought to the meeting tonight for everyone to see the new graphics, courtesy of Koons Chevrolet. We still need to fit it out. Any help would be appreciated, please see any of the Council members.

HPDE – George Kerns

HPDE scheduled for June 20th. George gave a brief description of what HPDE was for all the new people; to receive a high speed license you must attend a high speed school; ours is very reasonable at $125.00 which includes both class time and road time.

We are still looking for a couple more instructors. The novice class is full and we may open another novice class and combine the interme-diate and advanced drivers. Stay tuned for more information.

Reminder to all that a high speed license is required to race at our Spooktacular Event in October. Helmet’s will be made available (for rent) from OG Racing. It’s recommended that cars should have a fire extinguisher, not mandatory, but a good idea.
