Styling & Inspiration

If you follow my styling, you know that I love creating retro themes for my children’s party celebrations. For our smurf inspired birthday for our daughter, I wanted to add the unique touch of yellow to the clas-sic blue pallet to give the birthday a more feminine approach. And with that; we had a full blown Smurfette occasion.

The party was based around a NEW character creative artist Rachel Errede made just for us, “Sadie Smurfette” based loosely on

my daughter. She was given similar features which were reflected in the smurf character.

The sweets for our party included a custom cake, daisy cookies, lemon tarts and blue fun icing dip! We also had several savoury snacks that went perfect with the yellow and blue colors.

For entertainment, we made custom coloring pages with each child’s name. Favors were “smurf berries” small blue candies in cus-tom wrapped tins, with tiny daisies on top. The perfect small trinket for a child to bring home!

My children’s parties are my absolute favorite to plan. They are forever my inspiration and I try to make their events not only special but 100% about them. Our son Logan is in speech therapy and acquiring language for him has been a challenge. He has come leaps and bounds since his party! We are so proud of him. Even before he started making progress he knew a few words very well. One of those words was “pizza”. He loves pizza with every fiber in his being. It only made sense for his big day to have a pizza theme. He fell in love with all of the decor and was giddy to have his favorite food everywhere in sight. We carried the pizza theme throughout the decor right down to the desserts. The inspiration for the col-or palette was the Italian flag. We even had a little gondola in the swimming pool. Logan’s pizzaera was a success by any pizza lovers standards :)

What Lauren Had To Say :I’ve been doing Party Styling for a little over 2 yrs now. I love every single setup that I execute but I dont think I have to tell you how much I adore creating comic themes. The closest to my heart was obviously Kal-El’s Super-man party but I knew I wanted to work on other characters that inspire me as well. Selina Kyle aka Catwoman was a great place to start for me. There is so much I love about her character. She has so much depth as a comic icon

and there have been so many dif-ferent takes and representations of her. I chose to focus on a more modern representation of Selina. Other than lots of diamonds and bling elements for our little jewel thief I chose to keep the table a little on the simple side. I really wanted the location to stand out. When you live in a small city in North Alabama “Gotham” like locations are not readily avail-able! Luckily, Danielle and I found a great wall in down town Sheffield that had great texture

and really gave off the vibe we were looking for! Since I love the rouge gallery ALOT..ok ok admittedly more than Batman himself (sorry, not sorry) I will be doing a 3 part girls of Gotham mini series. Up next is personal favorite..but for now enjoy one of my all time favorite felines :)”

How about a Flamingos and Pineapples Party to welcome fun summer days!

A Party for Spohia

My Daughter Sophia was ecstatic when it occurred to me that we could do a Flamingos and Pine-apples party for her 5th birthday! She is actually obsessed with Flamingos because of their beau-tiful pink color and she loves to eat pineapples during hot summer days. To add to the excitement we celebrated Sophia’s birthday joint-ly with her bestie Charlotte. My backyard was the perfect set-ting for this Tropical Chic party. As the birthday theme indicates the party decor consisted of lots of Flamingo and Pineapple decor. The delicious Strawberry and Chocolate cake was the focal point of the “Flamingo Cafe” dessert table. It was adorned with fresh flowers and an adorable Flamingo Pick. The girls’ table had a very festive decor. I creat-ed the prettiest Floating flower arrangements with Flamingo

Picks as centerpieces. The girls loved the flower shaped floating candles. Another hit among our little guests were the Pineapple Cups with Flamingo Straws! We had a blast using all the adorable party supplies from our Flamingo Party Theme available at the Via Blossom Shop. The array of sweet treats were definitely a show stopper! The incredibly talented, Roni of Roni’s Sugar Creations created the most beautiful Gourmet Apples for the Party! They were a true master-piece, almost too pretty to eat. Sa-brina of Simply Brigadeiro made the most decadent mini desserts for the party. They’re called Bri-gadeiros. They are “truffle like” bite size desserts in a variety of flavors. They looked adorable in our Petite Blossom Cups! We also served Flower Cake Pops and chocolate Pineapple Pops. I DI-Yed the Dessert Table awning by hand-painting it to replicate the bright and festive floral tableware and banner. The Girls dressed up with pink boas, head boppers, Daisy hair

clips and heart shaped sunglass-es. They enjoyed a magic show, followed by a silly fashion parade and a dance party!

Welcome to the world of a little mermaid named Alaia and her under water birthday adventure. With vibrant hues of turquoise and gold, soft shades of pink and lav-ender, strands of pearls and hidden treasures, we are ready to go under water diving!

We styled this 4th birthday party for Alaia with a lot of glam and pizazz. The dessert table was de-signed to give the illusion of a Mermaid’s under water adventure. Surrounded with treasures of all sorts; pearls, gold, sea horses, star-fish, shells, clams, octopus, sharks and of course, edible goodies, it

brought shine and excitement to Little Mermaid Alaia’s eyes. Custom made desserts are always a must so we went all out with Octopus cake pops, Mermaid scaled cake pops, Sugar cookie clams, Mer-maid tail rice krispie treats, Gold cake pops with chocolate mermaid tails, Two tiered Oreo cookies with gold chocolate sand castles, Giant chocolate marshmallows with sea shells on a bed of “sand”, and much, much more. We even created a custom made name plaque giving it a scaled, glittered, blue ombre finish and pink, iridescent scales on top. The base of the name plaque consisted of a collection of pearls,

gold coins, starfish, and treasure chests. The centerpieces represented beautiful underwater clams with pearls and sunken treasure chests.

Mila’s Spring Fling Mila’s Spring Fling 1st Birthday party was just blooming with fun, from handmade crepe paper flowers adorning the dessert ta-ble backdrop and photo booth arch, to the 3 tiered fondant cake sprinkled with fresh peo-nies. Mila’s mama Jen has been a good friend of ours since our college sorority days, so we were just thrilled when she asked us to craft detailed dé-cor for the spring fling! While we were busy creating burlap banners, colorful bunting, fab-ric garland, paper flowers and more Jennifer was coordinating every last detail, and boy she

did incredible! Mila has a large family so the arch ( ps creat-ed by her dad!) draped with ribbon and covered in paper flowers was the perfect setting for photo-ops! The children enjoyed making crafts, a buffet filled with food, and a magic / puppet show put on by fair-ies! This dessert table was one to write home about, complete with bundt cakes, a custom fondant cake, powdered donuts, Peruvian cookies: alfajores, and more! Mila posed here for pho-tos in her fresh flower crown ( mom had a matching one!) and a spring dress while a delicate banner with photos document-

ing each month of her life, and colorful rosettes were draped behind her. Later she changed into her party dress with gold lace crown! Mila’s party was simply magical from beginning to end!

When our long time friend and so-rority sister Jennifer came to us with some ideas for her daughter Mila’s first birthday party I was absolute-ly thrilled. Jen has an eye for style and truly knows how to throw one heck of a party! Collaborating with women like her make creating décor oh-so-fun because I was confident she would create a setting that was beyond beautiful. The party’s theme was: Mila’s Spring Fling, Our inspi-ration was drawn from shabby-chic details, feminine vintage touches, and spring elements like floral and pops of color. For a more in-depth write up

about the part visit Hostess With the Mostess where we were featured on their blog!

Here are the Items Shiki created custom for Mila’s Party:

-25 Handmade crepe paper flowers -Flag Bunting in Pinky Corals & Mint Greens and Blues -12 Month photo Banner -Giant block letter “M” with fabric bow -Floral Number “1” -Hand Cut fabric garland -Gold Lace party crown -Burlap Flag “ Mila” Banner -Assorted Rosettes

While I personally enjoy crafting all elements of a birthday party my favorite was the giant paper blooms used to adorn the ribbon arch that Mila’s father made, perfect for photo

ops and were also seen on the des-sert table backdrop. Check back for tutorials on creating paper flowers for your next event! #Makeitshiki Vendor Credits: Hand crafted decor by Shiki Party Planning by Jennifer Shalabi Photos by Sahar Muhamad

Who doesn’t love the 80’s? Okay, so not everyone does. But what about bringing back the 80’s for a day? Cassette tapes, neon, rubix cubes and pac man... just small parts of this “totally rad” 80’s party! When I was planning this party I knew that I wanted to do more unique colors instead of the traditional rainbow neon’s seen in so many 80’s parties. So I settled on a more modern take of the 80’s; pink, teal, black and green! After I designed the printables, I con-tacted Autumn from EZ Fa-vors Lollipop shop and asked her to create for me a sweet set

to go with my theme. I showed Autumn my colors and print-ables and she created the cakepops, rice krispie treats, chocolate dipped graham crackers and chocolate cassette tapes to match. Everything looked and tasted amazing! The cake pops and rice krispie treats were the first thing gone. Everyone commented on how yummy they were. Katherine from Creating Awesomenessi-ty created the most awesome (no pun intended) cookies for me. They were beautiful and delicious! Marie from Sweets Indeed made me the most deliciously sweet and SOUR

candy kabobs. I have never had candy that is so sour. The candy kabobs were so AMAZ-INGLY TASTY! I can safely say that I am now addicted to candy kabobs. Thanks to all these talented contributors I was able to pull off this fabu-lous 80’s inspired party!

Jack’s top 3 tips for the best backyard

BBQ1. Keep it simple. In the age of Pinterest, it’s easy to overcomplicate your menu, especially when it comes to holidays. If you want to jazz up the menu, try putting a spin on one of your favorite comfort foods, like add-ing mac and cheese to a pulled pork sandwich, or turning a dish into a food bar. This will allow you to make a simple recipe that your guests can add their favorite topping to. Think

a hot dog station or an ice cream sundae bar with red and blue berries. Bonus: kids will love being able to customize their food!

2. Prep the night before. If you’re a party planning guru, you probably already know how helpful it is to prep for the meal the night before. All of the chopping, dicing and marinating can be done the day before. You can even arrange the in-gredients on platters or divide com-ponents in plastic baggies so when it’s time to fire up the grill you can grab-and-go. This will cut down on stress the day of the party so you can

enjoy the festivities.

3. Keep the kids entertained. If there will be kids at your Fourth of July party, try setting up a few simple backyard games that will keep the kids busy. Try hanging a piñata full of red, white and blue candy, making your own ring toss with empty glass bottles and a small box or fill empty soda bottle with rocks or sand to make bowling pins. You could even gather a few items from around the house (like a ladder, hula hoops, and jump ropes) and have the kids set up their own obstacle course.

www.ilovepartystyle.com84

Jack’s top 3 tips for entertaining on a

budget1. Choose your meats wisely. If you’re feeding a large crowd, working with a budget and trying to avoid hot dogs and hamburgers, chicken breasts, thighs and drumsticks are all great options. Chicken is not only a safe bet since most people eat chick-en (even the kids!), it is also easy to prepare and easy on the wallet.

Flank steak is another great option. Flank steak is more flavorful and tenderer than filet mignon or strip steaks, and can be easily marinated and quickly grilled – just make sure not to overcook! Remove from grill at 135 degrees internal temperature and let rest for 10 minutes before carving. When carving for your guest cut the steaks across the grain. If you look closely at the steaks when it comes off the grill, you’ll see little lines running across the length of the steak. That’s the grain I’m talking about. Hold your knife crosswise to the grain and cut thin slices for meat to maximize a tender bite.

2. Make low-cost side dishes. Just because it doesn’t cost a lot of money doesn’t mean your food can’t be delicious and made with fresh ingredients. When you’re shopping for the party, avoid buying pre-made foods if possible and opt for fresh fruits and veggies. Potatoes and grilled corn are always crowd pleas-ers and don’t require a lot of prepa-ration. You can also make your own coleslaw with cabbage and carrots or

a chilled pasta salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and black olives.

3. Serve pre-mixed drinks. If you’ll be serving alcohol at your party, one easy way to stay within your budget is to serve a pre-mixed drink alongside chilled beer. Mix up your favorite drink in a large pitcher or cooler and serve in your favor-ite glasses. If you have an alcoholic drink available, you won’t feel obli-gated to buy several different bottles of booze for people to mix their own drinks. You can also let your guests know what you will be serving ahead of time and ask them to bring their own booze if they want to drink something else.
