Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem

The archetypes and myths of Jerusalem, and the serenity and natural beauty of the Galilee will provide the setting for this unique study/tour to Israel. Beginning in the modern city of Tel Aviv, our travels will take us to the Galilee, an area rich in beauty and with the most magnificent landscape in Israel, and Jerusalem- for centuries thought to be the “axis mundi,” or center of the world.

It was in the Galillee that Jesus embarked on his ministry, performed many of his miracles, and from where he drew his Apostles. It was here where mysticism and the Kabalah flourished for centuries. During the course of our stay, we will explore this spiritual area and experience its scenic, historical and sacred sites- including Tiberias, Capernaum, Tabgha, Mount of the Beatitudes, Safad and the Golan Heights.

From the Galilee, we will move to Jerusalem, the Golden City, the Eternal City, the city of David- where

ancient history mingles with modern day life and stirs our emotions like no other place on earth. For centuries, Jerusalem was thought to stand at the center of the world. At its summit, Mount Moriah, lies a huge rock, a legendary “Omphalos,” Foundation Stone, of the world. Legend has it that here the sacrifices of Cain and Abel took place, here lies the entrance to the Garden of Eden, here the “Binding of Isaac” took place, and from here Mohammed ascended to heaven on a stair of light. It is impossible to visit Jerusalem and fail to be moved by her beauty, mystery and spirituality.

In Jerusalem, we will have the opportunity to walk along the Via Dolorosa and through the exotic Souk (Bazaar) to the Kotel (Western Wall) and Church of the Holy Sepulchre. During the course of our stay in Jerusalem, we will explore the Israel Museum and Shrine of the Book (where the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed), Garden Tomb, Room of the Last Supper and Dormitian Abbey at Mount Zion, as well as enjoy a full day’s outing to Masada, Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea.

During the course of our trip, we will gather together for discussion and dialogue, and hear presentations by Ann Ulanov, Aryeh Maidenbaum, local Israeli Jungian analysts Erel Shalit and Henry Abramovich as well as Father Gregory Collins- Abbot of the Dormitian Abbey on Mt.Zion. And, along the way, we will be seeing some of the most magnificent scenery in Israel and enjoying accommodations at deluxe hotels.

We invite you to join us on this meaningful journey!
