Information for Senior Parents

A message from senior sponsor, Jody Gross Senior Parent meeting is January 22nd at 7pm in the theater. We will be

discussing graduation and 2nd semester senior events. Please plan to

attend this meeting. Senior Dues are $130 until December 31. Senior Dues are NOT on the MyPaymentsPlus web page.

Please click on the link below to pay dues: http://www.gabalfour.com/

Please start sending in the senior week goodies!!! Every year, I start collecting candy now so that we will have enough for all of our seniors in April during senior week. Remember that we have 900 sen-iors and we all want to make senior week (in April) very special for them. The candy will be put into little goody bags for each senior. The candy needs to be a bag that has individually wrapped candy. You can send in any type of candy, chocolate or hard candy. These items can be dropped off in the front office or your senior can bring them to me in room A116. ALSO, parents make sure to put your seniors' name on a piece of paper and put it in the bag with your items. I check your name off when I get your items. My goal is to have every parent send in 1 bag of candy. Graduation is scheduled for 8:00 pm the last day of school on Markham Field at the Mill

Creek High School Stadium. The date will need to be approved by the board during their

March board meeting. When the date and time are approved, senior

parents will receive an email and it will be posted on the website.

All State Reading Chorus

Please join us in congratulating the following students who have made it into the 2020 GMEA All-State Reading Chorus. The Reading Chorus is the most rigorous activity for choral students and those who make the cut into this choir have demonstrated MASTERY of music/sight-singing literacy skills. We are so proud to have 7 students make it this year to participate in this 115 member state-wide ensemble!

TSA Fall Leadership Conference

This past weekend student in the Engineering classes participated in the Technology Student Associa-tion's Fall Leadership Conference (Leadercon) down at Jekyll Island. Students got to listen to a variety of speakers as well as attend leadership session and technical sessions to prepare themselves for our upcoming state competition in March. While there, students had the opportunity to see the aftermath of a real life engineering disaster. Two months ago a cargo ship bound for the Middle East overturned while filled with over 4,000 Kias. Students got to observe salvage crews out working to remove the cargo in order to continue the process of righting the ship to get it out of the channel.

Parking Reminder

As we approach the end of the first semester, this is a reminder that any

students who fail a class during the semester will have their parking decal

pulled for the second semester. In addition, if a student has any unpaid park-

ing tickets they will also have their decal pulled. Students who wish to pay

any outstanding tickets should do so in Dr. Hardegree’s office D-201.

Dual Enrollment

Are you interested in Dual Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year? If so, plan to attend

an informational meeting on January 23, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the theater (this will be the same

material that was presented in October). Students planning to do Dual Enrollment will need to take the SAT or ACT as soon as possible to meet deadlines at Mill Creek & college deadlines.

Registration information for both admission exams can be found below.

Save The Date: In order to do Dual Enrollment, students must complete all requirements by

March 16, 2020. Dual Enrollment requirements and participation information will be re-

viewed at the January 23rd meeting and can also be accessed now on the Mill Creek website

https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/9546.

State One Act Competition

Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Rabbit Hole for placing 3rd at the State One-Act Play Competition this past Saturday!

Congratulations also goes to Elena Rodriguez and Timeyin

Mabiaku who were recognized as All Star Cast!

This was only the second time MCHS has made it to state and the first time we have placed in

the top 4!

We would like to invite and encourage all parents to complete our RBES Survey before November 22, 2019. The survey will

be available via parent portal from October 21-November 22, 2019. Hard copies will be available in the front office for anyone without internet access beginning October 17th.

This survey provides valuable feedback and information GCPS uses to evaluate how our school compares to others within the

county. Here at Mill Creek we use this feedback to help us continually improve and SOAR!

We appreciate you taking a few moments to share your

opinion with us.

Thank you in advance for your

participation.

9th Grade EPIC Project: It’s Electric

10th Grade EPIC Project: It’s in your genes

Freshmen EPIC students are finishing up their second project! Their take on the It’s Electric project has been interesting, to say the least. These freshmen engineers are keeping our 3D printers running hot with their prototype creations. Students were challenged to find a need in their personal daily lives and solve it by creating something new or innovating an existing product. We did not stop there though! We had a United States Patent Attorney skype in to our class to share how important it is to not only protect your new ideas, but also to protect and share them properly. Students will be present-ing their ideas this Thursday in our prototype fair to see who will present in front of a panel of professionals. Check out our social media to see project updates and results of our competition.

The 10th grade EPIC engineers have been hard at work. After visiting our friends with special needs and talking with teachers about disabilities, the engineers were challenged to identify a specific genetic disability. Students researched the disability extensively, and are now building a device to assist a per-son with that disability in some way. At the completion of the project, teams will have produced a de-vice, an infographic poster and a report which will be presented during a prototype fair. This is one of our favorite PBL units in EPIC, emphasizing learning that is experiential, project-based, innovative, collaborative and cross-curricular.
