BLUE COAT TO WHITE COATPartnering with the Future Farmers of America, OSU Center for Health Sciences has created the Blue Coat to White Coat program. This program is intended to identify and cultivate talented students who are interested in a career in the science or medical field. FFA members are uniquely suited to serve rural communities, so BCWC helps foster members’ interest in pursuing a career in the science or health care industry. NATIVE PATHWAYOSU has partnered with Cherokee Nation to open the first tribally affiliated medical school in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Native Pathway has been created to encourage young Native American students to pursue a career in science and medicine while also embracing their culture. There are many ways for high school students to get involved with OSU-CHS.

Participants will spend four days learning and working alongside current medical and graduate students gaining a deeper understanding of the programs at OSU.

NATIVE OKSTARS

This program is open to Native American students who have a passion for research. Participants get to work alongside our graduate students and faculty to get real-world experience in a research lab.

OKSTARS SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM

Have a passion for research? This is the program for you! Work closely with our graduate students and faculty to delve into what it means to work in a lab.

OPERATION ORANGE

Learn about what it means to be a physician or athletic trainer at a location near you. Operation Orange is a one-day traveling summer medical camp that strives to inspire high school students to pursue a career in the medical field.

INFORMATION SESSIONS

OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine hosts monthly information sessions for prospective students who want to learn about our application process and other programs on campus. CHS offers several programs across multiple schools at the graduate level. We are home to the School of Health Care Administration, School of Forensic Sciences, School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Allied Health, and the Physician Assistant Program. CALLING ALL EDUCATORSCalling All Educators is a program that focuses on providing support to educators. We want to partner with you in providing classroom activities that are a fun way to engage your younger students. Activities will include virtual activities, STEM based curriculum, and resources and opportunities to help support your current lesson plans and empower your students to excel.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

Our amazing faculty and staff have put together activities that can be an online or in classroom resource for you.

Reading: It’s Just What the Doctor Ordered! Exercise your students minds and imaginations by engaging with us in a reading activity that can open doors to new knowledge or reinforce subjects they may already know.

Join us virtually on the third Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. for a reading event that is sure to be a fun experience for your students! Thirty minute readings and engagement will be presented by staff of the OSU-CHS campus and are appropriate for grades K–3.

EDUCATOR RESOURCE FAIR

Coming Fall 2021

Educators from across the state are invited to this event that will showcase resources that our campus and partners have to offer. Teachers, support staff, counselors, and administrators will have a day filled with information and highlights on how to tap into exciting resources and support available for them to use in their schools and classrooms.

PATHWAY TO MEDICINE

Do you have students interested in the health care field? Pathway to Medicine is a way for students to hear about what it’s like to be a physician and learn the way to achieve this goal. This is a 30-minute session where you or your students can hear from our outreach coordinators via video conference.

BRAIN AWARENESS WEEKEvery year in March Hosted by Society for Neuroscience Tulsa Chapter Dr. Dolores Vazquez Sanroman

Brain Awareness Week is a worldwide week for celebrating, educating, and creating awareness about the brain. Some of our activities include:

• Get your hands on some brains! Students learn concepts of neuroscience and understanding brain processes. They also have the opportunity to explore and touch a human brain. The event creates awareness and enormous respect for our organ donor program.

• At Drug Addiction Boot Camp, students learn facts about different drugs and medications.

• At Breakfast with Champions, first- and second-year medical students and Biomedical Sciences students spend an hour providing participants with experiences and guidance for navigating medical and graduate school.

PROJECT ECHO: TELE ED

Project ECHO offers a TeleED ECHO line that is a partnership with OSU-CHS Project ECHO and OSU-Tulsa. This tool is an educational development resource for school administrators and educators. This resource provides opportunities for superintendents, principals and others in position of leadership, especially for schools in rural areas of the state, to share best practices, receive ongoing and timely professional development and collaborate to help resolve complex issues and questions regarding Oklahoma schools and its students.

4-H

4-H is one of the largest government-run programs for youth. 4-H is dedicated to helping Oklahoma youth, families and communities reach their full potential.

PARTNERS AND RESOURCES

TRSA

Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance has a mission of building broad, deep and innovative STEM pathways for all students to access high-impact careers.

FFA

The Oklahoma FFA prepares students by helping them develop leadership and life skills. FFA and OSU partner together to cultivate and identify talented students who are interested in a career in science and medicine.

AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER (AHEC)

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) mission is to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventive care, by improving the supply and distribution of health care professionals via strategic partnerships with academic programs like OSU-CHS, communities, and professional organizations.

AHEC Scholars is a program for health professions students interested in supplementing their education by gaining additional knowledge and experience in rural or underserved urban settings. This program emphasizes an interdisciplinary curriculum that incorporates clinical, didactic and community-based training. All experiential or clinical training will be conducted in rural or underserved urban settings.
