A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to Kohnen Concrete for donating supplies for a new
activity we started this week: 10 sets of Polish Horseshoes for our PE
classes! We are learning the rules and strategies of the game; hopefully,
the kids will enjoy it and will continue to play this summer.
This time of year, schedules are a little crazy with field trips and other
activities. Please note that we will be outside as much as possible.
Please take your uniform home to wash, putting deodorant on
it to make it smell better is not the solution. Thank you!

**Please keep in mind that the State performance for the Concert band is
Saturday, April 29th. It will be an early morning with the performance at
8:00am.
7th Literature: We will be wrapping up our comparison of the novel To Kill a
Mockingbird to its film version (RL 7.7). There will be a test on Tuesday over the
novel. Following the test, we may be redistributing how class time is used to
accommodate the simulations that the students have created during Language Arts.
7th Language Arts: Students will be putting the final touches on both their
informative presentation and the simulation activities they have designed early in the
week. Presentations and simulations will begin on Wednesday and will continue
throughout the week ( W 7.7 and 7.8, SL 7.4 and 7.5).
8th Literature: Students have finished designing their literary theme parks to
display their understanding of plot and character development (W 8.9 B). Persuasive
presentations for theme parks will begin on Monday and continue through most of
the week (W 8.1 and SL 8.6).
8th Language Arts: Next week, students will continue researching on a topic of
their choice and designing an informative presentation to share with class . Topics
include discussion of what makes an item a ‘classic’, how to survive certain scenarios,
who is the best of the best, and million dollar ideas. Presentations will begin on
Wednesday and continue through the week. (W 8.4 and 8.7, SL 8.4 and 8.5).
Keep in mind that today marks midquarter, so it is very important to
complete your AR reading every night to meet your goal!

8th Grade Science: We will complete our Scientific Math Unit by finally
testing over Density and Momentum. We will begin working our Science Day
demonstrations which will take place on Tuesday, May 9th.
7th Grade Science: Next week, we will test over the Invertebrates. We will
then begin working on the vertebrates, including in class study guides.
6th Grade Science: Next week, we will continue our in class Earthquake
discussions. The current topic is types of faults. Next, we will be volcanoes.
5th Grade Science: Next week, we will get back into Electricity.
8th Grade Green Screen: Go to YouTube.com and search the channels that
we use, mamaweems or 17lmattson, to watch our announcements each day.
This group is doing a great job of staying on task and understanding that the
announcements aren’t just for informing, but also for entertaining. Each day is
easier to get through if it starts with a smile.
EVERSGERD’S WORDS
5th LA: We will start the play “Rip Van Winkle” this week. We will discuss
the purposes of reading plays, find the history to the play, and discuss the
geography of the setting. Parts will be assigned. I assign parts by the child’s
personality where I see they would excel in becoming that character. There
will be a quiz over this story on Friday. Props/costumes for this play will be
needed. When performances become established, I will let all parents know.
6th ELA: We will warm up each day with DOL week 16. There will be a quiz
on Thursday. We will continue writing our poems this week. During
literature, we will finish up our novel, Across the Wide and Lonesome
Prairie. The written test, AR test, and due date of journals will be
Wednesday. On Thursday, we will start our final novel, Where the Red Fern
Grows. Please make sure you have your copy by Thursday. Here are some
suggestions if you do not want to purchase the book: borrow from someone
or find it at a local library.

5th Grade Literature: Next week, the students have selected to work on
RI.5.2—summarization, RI.5.6—point of view, RI.5.5—text structure, and
Ri.5.2—theme. There will be an assessment over the informational text
standards on Friday. All of these concepts can be practiced on Study Island to
help ensure the mastery of the content.
5th Grade Math: Next week, the students will begin the two easiest 6th grade
standards. I gave the students the option to continue to review the 5th grade
standards or to get a little preview of next year. They were all extremely excited
to try out a 6th grade standard! I worked with Ms. Clark on her
recommendation of which standards to introduce. She noted that 6.RPA.1 and
6.RPA.2 are extremely reasonable for this group of kids. I am just extremely
proud of their effort and determination to continue to succeed!
MR. GLYNN’S SOCIAL STUDIES SCOOP
5th: This week students will continue to study different perspectives of the Civil
War. Students are preparing dioramas, skits, parodies, and debates. The
students are researching what was going on in the north and south before the
Civil war, the advantages of the north and south, major battles, and the impact
the war had on the north and the south(RI.5.1).
6th: This week students will continue getting to know famous figures from the
Renaissance Age. Students will analyze the contributions of these people and
start to see why the Renaissance is known as the bridge between the Middle
Ages and modern history (RI.6.3). We will have an assessment on Thursday.
7th: This week, we will be examining battles of the American Revolution. I am
letting the students decided how they want to learn about the battles. I will
provide the kids with a project rubric, so they know how they will be graded.
The kids have mentioned ideas such as reenactments, board games, interactive
timelines, etc. (RI.7.1)
8th: This will be the final week of editing for our WWII movie. The kids have
been working very hard on preparing scripts, planning scenes, building props,
and editing footage. I can’t wait to see how the final product turns out.
Unfortunately, there was no information available at the time this edition was
