Re-opened school for new year's work. Staff:- T.Ingram - seniors and juniors Miss Knowles - infants Pupil teachers - M.Middleton 4ft year; M.V/indsor lo year. Began gardening on vicarage plot - 9 boys each marked out own plot 3yds wide and began breaking up the land. The vicar, Rev.A.W.Lister agreed to allow the school the use of the land between the gamge and drive and eastern fence as a school garden, free of rent, for the war period; the sole condition was the acknowledgement of the vicar's rights of good behaviour of the class. Decided after discussion with staffthat WC Cistern chamber would be safest and most easily accessible air-raid shelter failing provision of proper accommodation. Received as gift from Mrs coombe 6 spades and 6 forks for school garden. Team of 6 senior scholars and2 reserves chosen to assist in the National Salvage Campaign (to assist in local work after school hours under supervision at a depot). School reopened Whit Tuesday due to National Emergency. Empire Day. School closed at 12 noon. The children collected f,l in pennies and an illustrated Souvenir Certificate was presented to each child who had contributed to the Fund. Seniors 132d. Juniors 30d. Infants 78d. Money forwarded to Sir Evelyn Wrench's Fund of extra comfort for soldiers, sailors, airmen in the Empire's forces. Mrs.Coombe WVS collected 3 sacks and I box of aluminium gathered by children. Children attended Armistice Service in church 10.45-11.15. Address by Rev. J.A. Broadbelt. Wreath made by Mr.J. Gregory was laid on Memorial by two eldest scholals. Morning session of school altered to 9.30 - lz.r5 on account of black-out. Miss Knowles absent on account of heavy air raid on Sheffield during night. Reported to Managers that increase in evacuees had reached limit of available fumiture. Guy Bowles of Baslow presented prizes (savings stamps) to winners in Savings

24Feb. Wbrkmen from Eyre's Chesterfield fitted blackout material to senior and juniorfooms.

27 Feb. ATC began to use school premises; arranged to use senior room Mons and Weds 7 -9 each week.

26 April Miss Fletcher absent 1 day - embarkation leave of fiance.

22May Closed at noon for Empire half-day and for Whit week holiday. Empire Day TobaccoFund realised 17 shillings.

3 Nov. Scholars went potato picking at Slack's Froggatt.

4 Dec. Held rehearsal at Calver Methodist Sunday School for Red Cross Prisoner of WarFund Concert.

5 Dec Gave concert on Sat at7pm. Raised f,6 5s.

8 Dec. Repeated concert. Realised f,3 18s. Sales f5 t?s 7d.

12Dec. Total handed over to Mrs.Coombe f,15 15s 7d.

24May Close school Mon aftemoon for Empire Day. Overseas League Tobacco Fundcollection amounted to f2.

29 July Experimental dinners from Eyam Emergency kitchen were served to 48 children and2 staffat cost of 4d each.

31 July HeldAnnual Sports and at 3.30 presented Certificates of Merit for Form Tests andSports. Did not holdAnnual Open Day because of lack of materials to make display.
