These are 9 hole events played on shortened holes. This event includes a clinic with 2 PGA
Professionals and the handing out of shirts. A reminder that you must be registered with JNJG

$50.
Wednesday Cadets – Wednesday 8th May
The Inter group of Haisu, Nick, Brianna, Xavier and Lucas worked on the range with Mal doing pitching practice and then onto putting techniques with Lucas winning the putting comp. Mal was really happy with the improvements made with pitching by the team! Cadet Master Bart who assisted Mal said the standard of the pitching by this group was outstanding.
Sandra had James, Thor and Max yesterday. They played holes 1,2,6 and half of 8 and 9. All
boys showed moments of brilliance and Sandra was impressed by James and Thor’s
competitiveness with each other and their concentration on putting. They both sank some
very good putts as did Max holing a 20 metre putt on one of the holes. James and Thor’s
scores were tied at the end of the day but it was Thor's excellent chipping to the green that
won him the prize.
Helen took Jonathan and Neve out to play 5 holes. They both hit some good shots and made
good decisions when playing out of the trees. Their putting pace improved during the
afternoon and they both scored better than their new handicaps. Well done!

Cadet Master Keith enjoyed taking out two very enthusiastic young boys, Robert and
Ethan. They putted using the markings on the green and when they got to the hole marked
with four dots Robert said "I love this hole as it is my favourite". For putting they worked on
stroking the ball, not hitting the ball! Then they played a reduced Hole 9 and reduced Hole
7. They finished at the chipping green where the boys worked on getting the chip in the air
and stopping at the nominated hole. Both boys hit some great shots with a couple of Ethan's
chips especially good. Robert has a very nice swing and his alignment for hitting is very
good. We had a shoot out on the last hole for the award and Ethan won that. After Ethan
won Robert came up with one of Robert's huge smiles and shook the winner's hand. Well
done Robert - that is the way we would like to see all golfers take to the course.
Cadet Master Graeme gave the following report:- “On Wednesday I took Isabella and Jake to
play the 19th & 27th holes, then finished with a chipping and putting session. Isabella is very
interested in improving her golf and asked good questions and puts the answers and advice
into practice. She has good basic ball striking ability and generally hits the ball in the intended
direction. Jake is very new to playing holes and started out hitting everything at 45 degrees to
the right, however once we got him lined up correctly and slowed his swing down a bit, he
was making good contact and finished the 27th with some very good stokes. Both, like all of
us, need to look at the ball, and when they do the result is quite encouraging. In chipping and
putting we worked on setting up, aiming and getting the ball to the hole in the direction of the
hole. Both played some very good shots and were chipping and putting quite close to the
target after only a couple of practice shots.”

Cadet Master Mick said “It was a pleasure to have Jack and Zane for the afternoon. They
commenced with some warm up shots in the practice nets concentrating on making good
contact, then they spent a little time putting before heading out to play the 1st & 9th holes.
Both Jack and Zane listened well and were willing to try all types of shots. I helped Zane with
his grip as he was keen to ensure it was correct, he has a great eye, played some great shots
especially two amazing long straight shots with his driver (2nd shot tee’d up on the fairway) on
the 9th. Jack has a good swing speed, is well balanced and generally makes good contact with
the ball. I worked with Jack on some short chipping which he picked up well. The boys finished
up with some more practice putting which they enjoyed.”
Jacob and Dylan flew around the course with Cadet Master Rob, playing 6 holes with time to
spare. They played some excellent golf – Dylan playing to his low handicap of 12 and Jacob
reducing his handicap for next week. Well done boys.

Friday Junior Clinic – Friday 10th May James, Sophie, Bill and Lachlan set out to the range with Mal while the dark clouds were
closing in. They managed to hit a few balls before the rain started and they had to abandon
the clinic.
Good golfing,
Marg.
