With its golden yellow stone of Jaumont and 6,500 m² of stained glass windows, St. Stephen’s Cathedral dominates the town and looks back on a 3,000 year-history. The city radiates Italian elegance enhanced by the numerous parks and green spaces. It’s charm is best appreciated by strolling up the narrow alleyways of the Holy Cross Hill (Colline Saint-Croix) where the town was founded and then descending to the «La Cour d’Or» Museums or stopping off for a coffee at the Place Saint-Jacques. Continuing along the River Moselle and the artificial lake, you reach the Imperial Quarter with its Germanic influence and after walking through this district you are suddenly captivated by the bold architecture of the Centre Pompidou-Metz, a brand new European centre for modern and contemporary art.

The presence of the region’s three regional nature reserves are evidence of this. Located right in the middle of these reserves and right next to the Lorraine Regional Nature Reserve, Center Parcs benefits from the pure fresh air of the Vosges mountains. An ideal place for keen hikers and nature lovers. Another area worth visiting is the lake district nearby, a bird sanctuary which also captivates visitors with its rich fauna and peaceful atmosphere.

Daum, Baccarat, Saint-Louis… the biggest names in the crystal and glassware industry represent one of the most remarkable skills to be found in Lorraine. Benefiting from the abundance of water, sand and wood, the «fire arts» experienced a boom on the edge of the Vosges mountains from the 16th century onwards. The skills passed on from one generation to the next and the trained eye of the master glassblowers have ensured the continuation of this precious craft which still supplies its products to major inter-national stores. Just as famous are the faience or earthenware factories of Lunéville-Saint-Clément, Niderviller and Sarregue-mines or the enamel works of Longwy which are also evidence of Lorraine’s leading role in the «fire arts».

Even if the quiche lorraine is the undisputed star of Lorraine cuisine, we must not forget the region’s numerous other specialities. These range from sweet to savoury, for example from rum baba to hotpot, and also feature bergamot sweets, macaroons or the famous Madeleines de Commercy. Special mention should also be made of the delicate golden mirabelle fruit which can be served as a dessert or cooked - this fruit is an absolute delight for the many chefs now practising creative cuisine, a culinary art which is held in increasingly high esteem. Lorraine now has about fifteen starred restaurants, several of which are in the immediate vicinity of Center Parcs.
