We knew the first year is a year of discovery and we are still finding new things! We have two crab apple trees in our front yard that I didn’t even know were there (I’m not much of a botanist), so we were pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous pink blossoms that came and are still lingering. We have two other rather large trees with white blossoms. I don’t know what they are, but the previous owners told us they are spec- tacular in the spring. Apparently, they bloomed last week. Dan and other family members saw them, but I, somehow, missed the beauty. Now, the blossoms have shriveled up and are tucked away for another year. While I’m sure that I did see the trees in glancing, I was dis- appointed that I didn’t take more time to really enjoy them. This realization of the hurried pace at which I’ve been living my life tied in closely with the mission we had last week, that I need to take time to strengthen my relationship with Jesus. I realized that my only time spent with God lately has been in the car, on the way to and from work; that I’ve been constant- ly running with so many things happening in both my work and personal life that I felt like I was barely hanging on by the skin of my teeth. Driving home from a particularly stressful day, I turned on a Christian radio station and heard the last two words of a familiar song: “just breathe.” As you can imagine, I just about lost it. The song by Jonny Diaz (called “Breathe”) is one I’ve heard many times and closely relate to, as I’m sure many of us in this non-stop world do. The lyrics talk about how busy life gets, and how God still speaks to each of us at those moments: “When the stress is on the rise, in my heart I feel you say, ‘Just breathe; just breathe. Come and rest at my feet. And be, just be; chaos calls, but all you really need is to just breathe.’” THE PARISH COMMUNITY OF SAINT BRIDGET THE PARISH COMMUNITY OF SAINT BRIDGET THE PARISH COMMUNITY OF SAINT BRIDGET THE PARISH COMMUNITY OF SAINT BRIDGET Saint Bridget Campus Saint Bridget Campus Saint Bridget Campus Saint Bridget Campus Saint Austin Campus Saint Austin Campus Saint Austin Campus Saint Austin Campus 3811 Emerson Avenue, No., 3811 Emerson Avenue, No., 3811 Emerson Avenue, No., 3811 Emerson Avenue, No., 4050 Upton Ave. N 4050 Upton Ave. N 4050 Upton Ave. N 4050 Upton Ave. N Minneapolis, MN 55412 Minneapolis, MN 55412 Minneapolis, MN 55412 Minneapolis, MN 55412 Minneapolis MN 55412 Minneapolis MN 55412 Minneapolis MN 55412 Minneapolis MN 55412 Parish Office Parish Office Parish Office Parish Office—612 612 612 612-529 529 529 529-7779 FAX 7779 FAX 7779 FAX 7779 FAX—612 612 612 612-529 529 529 529-8451 8451 8451 8451 Office Hours Office Hours Office Hours Office Hours—Monday thru Thursday 8:30 AM Monday thru Thursday 8:30 AM Monday thru Thursday 8:30 AM Monday thru Thursday 8:30 AM—4:00 PM 4:00 PM 4:00 PM 4:00 PM E-Mail: [email protected] Brennan Hall Mail: [email protected] Brennan Hall Mail: [email protected] Brennan Hall Mail: [email protected] Brennan Hall—612 612 612 612-529 529 529 529-9561 9561 9561 9561 Sixth Sunday of Easter, May Sixth Sunday of Easter, May Sixth Sunday of Easter, May Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 21, 2017 21, 2017 21, 2017 21, 2017 http:/stbridgetnorthside.com http:/stbridgetnorthside.com http:/stbridgetnorthside.com http:/stbridgetnorthside.com

Last June, my husband, Dan, and I bit the bullet and moved out to Elk River. It was a big decision, but the right one for us. We knew the first year is a year of discovery – and we are still finding new things! We have two crab apple trees in our

front yard that I didn’t even know were there (I’m not much of a botanist), so we were pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous pink blossoms that came and are still lingering. We have two other rather large trees with white blossoms. I don’t know what they are, but the previous owners told us they are spec-tacular in the spring. Apparently, they bloomed last week. Dan and other family members saw them, but I, somehow, missed the beauty. Now, the blossoms have shriveled up and are tucked away for another year.

While I’m sure that I did see the trees in glancing, I was dis-appointed that I didn’t take more time to really enjoy them. As it is for many, the spring months are usually quite busy as we try to complete things in preparation of a (hopefully) “lazy summer” – finishing leftover winter tasks, spring cleaning, preparing gardens, planting bulbs, and, of course, the many projects happening at the workplace.

This realization of the hurried pace at which I’ve been living my life tied in closely with the mission we had last week, that I need to take time to strengthen my relationship with Jesus. I realized that my only time spent with God lately has been in the car, on the way to and from work; that I’ve been constant-ly running with so many things happening in both my work and personal life that I felt like I was barely hanging on by the skin of my teeth. Driving home from a particularly stressful day, I turned on a Christian radio station and heard the last two words of a familiar song: “just breathe.”

As you can imagine, I just about lost it. The song by Jonny Diaz (called “Breathe”) is one I’ve heard many times and closely relate to, as I’m sure many of us in this non-stop world do. The lyrics talk about how busy life gets, and how God still speaks to each of us at those moments:

“When the stress is on the rise, in my heart I feel you say, ‘Just breathe; just breathe. Come and rest at my feet. And be, just be; chaos calls, but all you really need is to just breathe.’”

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 21, 2017

Of course, it is a great reminder that Jesus is patiently waiting for us and that He is that constant peace to our crazy. Life with Him is truly better.

In our second reading today from 1 Peter, the author says, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” If we are running ragged without finding time to connect with Jesus often, we may lose sight of that hope – hope in the grace that Jesus bought for us on the cross, the hope of eternal life – not death.

One of my favorite things about spring is the sense of renewal; everything comes with a fresh start – the earth, the flowers, the ambitions for the rest of the year. In the same way, Jesus allows us that same fresh start, as many times as we need. However, instead of waiting an entire year, we have that option every single day, for “His mercies are renewed each morning.” (Lam. 3:23)

May these days of spring be invigorating and enjoyable for you – and if you find yourself overwhelmed by daily tasks or on the brink of just getting by, remember to actively seek Jesus for His calming peace... and just breathe.

~ Heather Johnson, Director of Worship

MISSION APPEAL: MISSION APPEAL: MISSION APPEAL: MISSION APPEAL: This weekend, May 20-21, we have the honor

of hosting Fr. Francis Dias from the Diocese of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is primarily a Buddhist country, with only 7% of the total population practicing Christianity. The diocese has drawn up a few projects to rebuild the faith of the people, such as for-mation of young seminarians and training and organizing small Christian communities. The diocese has to take a different method to instill Catholic faith in the children at parish levels. A second collection will be taken, so please plan to give as you are able. Thank you.
