The first step in providing for your safety is to be prepared before an emergency arises. The information that follows is provided for you to review and understand; should an event occur you will have background knowledge to execute the necessary procedures to provide for your own safety. “Shelterinplace”isagenerictermmeaningstayinasafeplace.Ifyouareoutside,go into the closest building to avoid possible danger.

Althoughthebasicconceptofshelteringinplaceremainsthesame,therearesmalldifferences in the specific actions to be taken for different types of emergencies. Everyemergencyisdifferent,soitisbesttouseyourjudgmentandintuitionbasedon the information that is provided and your current circumstances and location.
