Query Letter

Dear X,

Does a 20-year cover up involving two murders interest you? Brenda Lee Marks was a sweet girl who was killed in a botched jewelry store robbery. However, all evidence points to this robbery being a setup and her husband being the actual murderer. After years of trying to get justice for Brenda, true crime writer, Dale Hudson began to investigate this cover up for an upcoming book. It wasn’t long before he was also murdered, but this too was covered up.

The team of Justice 4 Brenda is currently looking for media outlets to share the story as they come up on the 20 year anniversary. Not only is this a compelling case for any journalist, but the case itself goes much deeper; involving dirty politicians, attorneys, and overall corruption.

If interested, we have a guide on hand that includes articles, documents, and other factual evidence to show the accuracy of the cover up and the full extent of a botched investigation and subsequent trial. Additionally, there is also a press release for easy of media delivery. If you are interested in discussing this further, my number is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

X

Press Release This March 14th marks the 20th year anniversary of the murder of Brenda Marks Wolf. On March 14th, during a botched jewelry robbery Mrs. Wolf was shot by her husband, Jeffrey Scott Wolf. Notably, she was shot from less than two feet away and no other gun was fired during the robbery. Additionally, the group of men was later arrested hailed from Kansas City Missouri whereas the crime took place in New Jersey, meaning that the group drove specifically for the holdup of a small, local store.

The team at Justice4Brenda, which is spearheaded by Brenda’s sister, Laur Truman, not only point out the speculative nature of the case itself, but also the fact that Prosecutor Nicholas Bissell, who later committed suicide after facing corruption charges, had all of his cases reopened, excluding this one.

With the 20th anniversary close at hand, it is imperative that word gets out that this case should be reopened. You can find ways to share your voice at: justice4brenda.com

Overview of the Cases

The Murder of Brenda Marks Wolf

Brenda and Jeffrey Wolf were married in 1984. At the time of the marriage, there were a few concerns from Brenda’s family surrounding Wolf’s odd behavior and control over Brenda. Case in point, Wolf had some disagreements at his brother’s communication company over theft and proposed involvement with the Russian Mob. There was even a claim that Wolf was trading arms for them. Additionally, there is a report in which a gun accident also occurred at Wolf’s place of employment. According to reports of Brenda’s family, Mr. Wolf also encouraged her to leave her job as a legal secretary and become a jeweler, something she did not want to do, and voiced as such. The family reports that Brenda had low self-esteem and in more than one occasion, when prompted as to why she stayed, she replied it was because of the self-esteem boost and the fact that she felt some degree of responsibility over what happened to the business. The family was equally suspicious of the marriage as Brenda exceedingly lost a marginal amountof weight, and even though there was speculation that Wolf had nefariously poisoned Brenda, regardless it still warranted a great deal of concern for her well being. This fact does, however, set precedence on the idea that Brenda was more susceptible that any misdealing and illegality that might have occurred within the jewelry store. For instance, another family member met withWolf every week with a bag that was filled with “broken jewelry.” The family member was alsomarried to a NYPD officer that worked in one of the most crime-riddled section in Brooklyn, yet had certain perks that seemed out-of-the-ordinary; such as escorting the captain of the force and never did an on-foot patrol, despite being young and inexperienced. All of these elements have led the family to believe that there was a great deal of illegality activity that occurred within the jewelry store that Brenda was privy to, and wanted out of.

On March 14th, 1995, according to initial reports, Jeffrey Scott Fine Jewelry was robbed at gunpoint by five men: Marqis Kennon, Avram Gottlieb, Robert L. Williams (19), and MichaelW. Guhse (17). A later man, Harry Insabella, was arrested due to his perceived involvement with the “gang.” Wolf stated that Brenda waited on Marqis Kennon before he withdrew a .22 caliber semi-automatic. He then leapt over the counter and wrestled Brenda to the floor. Wolf then stated that Williams pushed a package at Jeffery and subdued his arms (See Figure 1.5). It was during this initial commotion when Brenda was shot. According to Wolf, he believed that they were going to inject the couple with valium and then rob the store (See Figure 1.3). Wolf claims that he wrestled Kennon off and, once free, extracted a .357 magnum from underneath thecounter. At this point, Wolf states that Williams and Guhse then fled the scene, followed by Kennon. Wolf shot at the retreating Kennon four times, striking him and causing him to drop hisgun. Williams and Guhse fled into a waiting car, while Kennon hid at a nearby school under a

pile of leaves; subsequently where he was later arrested. Wolf then retreated back at the store and called police before waiting for them to arrive.

In the day’s leading after the robbery and death of Brenda, her family is told, by Prosecutor Nicholas Bissell, that Wolf will most likely be arrested and prosecuted for murder. Additionally, Police Chief Buckarey also tells Brenda’s mother that Wolf will soon be arrested for murder. The idea that Wolf should be arrested and charged is made more evident, by law enforcement, through his need to hire a criminal defense attorney, despite never being charged, his need to take anti-anxiety medication, and from his outright refusal to talk to police or give details about what he claimed happened. In addition, inconsistencies also surrounded the amountof jewelry in the store and where it came from. It is estimated that there was a half a million dollars worth of merchandize in the store and Brenda’s family members often claim to see approximately $30,000 in case taped behind a toilet. When question about the jewelry store inventory, most of which was Wolf’s, Jeffrey simply claimed that most of it had come from Insabella, who had items from an estate sale.

It is equally worth noting that later investigations also revealed that there was a security camera set up inside the store, but the machine held no tape inside. This was quite unusual since taping activity usually occurred in the store.

As mentioned previously, the aforementioned timeline of the crime is according to Jeffrey Wolf’s initial statement. That statement later changed. The prosecutor of the investigation, Nicholas Bissell, originally called it “completely implausible.” This is was due to the fact that the killing wound found on Brenda came from a .357 magnum, whereas Kennon’s .22 pistol had not been fired and the safety was still on (See Figure 1.2). Jeffrey Wolf was pressed on the timeline of events for several weeks, before admitting to being the one that shot Brenda. In fact, in an interview, dated March 16th, 1995 Jeffrey Wolf is interviewed stating that “I saw him squeeze the trigger, directly at her head…he basically killed my wife.”

After it was found that Wolf was indeed responsible for the shooting, his attorney claimed that it was “Post-traumatic stress syndrome” that caused Wolf to inadvertently forget. As Wolf himself claims, “I don’t remember what happened in those minutes. My wife was dying right in front of me. I pressed the holdup button. The police came. It all happened in two minutes” (See Figure 1.4).

Despite the fact that law enforcement and Prosecutor Bissell initially believed that Wolf should be held responsible for murder, the men involved in the robbery, as claimed by Wolf and through their history with each other (For example, Insabella) are arrested. According to the family, this change in prosecution tactic occurred only after a private meeting between Bissell and Wolf in order to “reenact” the scene. No police or reporters are allowed to watch this private meeting. After speaking with Wolf for an estimated 45 minutes, and again, with no other witnesses on scene, Wolf is then immediately cleared of any wrong doing. Even the family is

completely taken aback by some of the arrests made, namely Dr. Harry Insabella, who is a family-oriented dentist. As Brenda’s father, George Marks even says, “Who in the world would have thought that? People say this to me ‘What is a dentist doing in this?’ With this case, nothingis surprising me anymore” (see figure 1.1).

Later, in 1996, Wolf is interviewed by America’s Most Wanted. Despite the fact that his wife died just a year earlier, Wolf is seen on film asking producers if he should “pinch his cheeks” in order to cry harder. Moreover, he is also seen laughing during outtakes. Although these tapes are in existence, the program directors indicate that the tapes will not be released and cite the 5th amendment. America’s Most Wanted loses the claim and these tapes are played duringHarry Insabella’s trial.

Mid-way during the trial Nicholas Bissell is relieved of his position, and Assistant Prosecutor, A. Peter DeMarco will act as acting prosecutor. Shortly after, Bissell is accused by law enforcement of several counts of corruption and fraud, but subsequently flees before he is apprehended. According to the District Attorney’s office, Bissell would have been sentenced to 6– 10 years if convicted. However, before he could be taken into custody, Nicholas Bissell committed suicide.

Despite the fact that many of Bissell’s convictions are overturned, the trial of Brenda’s death continued as scheduled. This culminates with the convicted for the aforementioned men tied to the robbery.

However, the family is still actively pursuing the case, citing that the case of Brenda Marks Wolf’s murder should be reopened due to the overwhelming lack of evidence towards Wolf and the potential corruption in the initial investigation.

The Disappearance and Murder of Dale Hudson

William Dale Hudson, true crime author of Kiss and Kill, Dance of Death, All I Want to Do Is Kill, among author works left his home on Wednesday August 12th, 2009 at approximately 8 a.m. This is for a business trip, but according to family members of Brenda Marks Wolf, the trip was actually to in regards to the Wolf case. The family notes that Dale was actually on the way to meet Jeffrey Wolf in order to conduct further research on his new book, which would cover the murder of Brenda Wolf, highlighting the possibility that the real culprit behind the murder was Jeffrey Wolf. In relation to these claims, Hudson is given 10 full boxes of evidence and information on Brenda’s case, which has been sent to him through some members within Somerset County. Moreover, research indicates that Billy Hills, coauthor, indicates that the two were working on two more books, but the contents therein were not relayed to any media source.Later Dale’s widow will go on to state, “Dale was not writing a book, and those boxes do not exist.”

At approximately 22 a.m, Dale Hudson’s wife indicated that she received a phone call from the author stating that he was suffering a migraine headache and thus, he was going to look for a place to pull over en route to his destination. Dale indicated that he would call his wife later when he received his destination, but the call never came. On August 14th, 2009 Dale’s wife placed a call to the police department and reported that her husband was missing. Later that day, investigators found the car Dale Hudson was driving in a deeply wooded area in Marion County.

On August 15th, at approximately 8:30 p.m. two fishermen spotted Dale Hudson’s body floating in the Pee Dee River, which is two miles south of the U.S. 76 Bridge. On Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 the Marion County Coroner released the cause of death as being accidental drowning.

Discussion Questions If Jeffery was indeed very proficient with a shotgun, why did he miss in the first place?

Further, why did he knowingly fire when his wife was at such a close range?

- It stands to reason that, in a logical facet, one would not fire at either party at such a close range; or given the positioning of Brenda and the assailant, and there would have been more likelihood that the criminal would have been hit, as opposed to Brenda.

Why did Dale Hudson decide to pull over when his destination was only 40 minutes away?

- It would have been much more logical for Dale to have continued onto his destination where he would have received extended relief. If Dale felt the need to pull over, why do so in a remote location where his decision-making skills would have been compromised.
