CHECK HILLEL OMMUNITY SCHOOL Matt Levine of Scheck illel Community hool earned an excellent ting for his snare drum solo performance in the Florida Bandmasters Asso- ciation’s State Solo and Ensemble Adjudication. He also earned the John Philip Sousa Award from his school, the top national award for band students. Since age 7, Matt has been playing the drums. He later expanded his music education to include differ- ent genres and instruments. He also is active in his com- munity with organizations like The Friendship Circle and became a leader of the organization’s North Miami chapter as a sophomore. Matt plans to study legal studies and business at the University of Miami after spending a year in Israel. THE VILLAGERS SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION Local students from the University of Miami, Florida International University, and Design and Architecture Senior High were among 10 stu- dents to win scholarships from The Villagers, an organization dedicated to the restoration and preser- vation of historic sites in Miami-Dade County. Recipients from the University of Miami re- ceived $4,500 scholar- ships, and they are David Holmes and Shannar O’Connor. Daniella Can- cel received a $4,000 scholarship. Recipients from Florida International University were Carolina Richard- son, $4,000, and Kaitlyn Fuson, $4,500. Winners from DASH included Chloe Castillo and Sheridan Posschelle with $1,200 and Theo Neil Blones with $1,600.     The math team at DoralAcademy Charter compet-ed at the Mu Alpha ThetaState Math Convention inOrlando last month andplaced third overall, thehighest place earned by aMiami-Dade County school.

    The team included 40students, and they re-turned home with 50 aca-demic awards in variousmath competitions. Theschool also received twolaptops and a drone.

    The first place awardeeswere Anirudh Rahul foranalytic geometry; Dou-glas Shu for alpha applica-tions; and Daniela Her-nandez, Maria Pelayoand Monica Novoa forscrapbook.

    Ethan Partidas, Ani-rudh, Dangely Canabal,Marc Marquez, and TaeLee earned a SquirtyChicken Award, whichrecognizes the top 12 stu-dents in each divisionbased on overall perform-ance during the competi-tion season.

    The team’s top winnersreceived 38 individualawards and 11 team awardscollectively. These winnersincluded Ethan, with sevenawards; Felipe Contipelli,Anirudh, and Raul Valle,with five awards each;Dangely, KaranveerSandhu, and Logan Fon-tirroche with four awardseach; Tomas Alvarez andTae with three awardseach; and Douglas, AllanDoLago, Bhavya Soni,Carlos Estrada, CarolinaMora and Amanda Fer-nandez with two awardseach.

    Individual award win-

    ners included Maria Vaz-quez, Jason Bravo, IrenaLian, Marc, CamilleWang, Jesus Nunez,Vivek Brahmatewari,Bradley Ramunas, FelipeDeLaCamara, VanessaRodriguez and Jose Rom-ero.

    The team’s sponsor, SamKoski, earned the Sue Dok-er Sponsor of the YearAward for his work in themath community at thestate, regional and locallevels.

    WINSTON PARK K-8CENTER

    Juliana Ngo and Mat-thew Rojas, seventh-gradestudents at Winston ParkK-8 Center, will be honor-ed on May 9 at FloridaAtlantic University by theDuke University TalentIdentification Program fortheir ACT and SAT scores.
