2015 GUILD RAFFLE QUILT REPORT
Bonnie Bell, Cheryl Cherry, Sharon Drew, Mary Jane Dudley and Darlene Hearn have been providing the leadership for the creation of Garden Labyrinth. . Chat and Sew sessions were used as workshops to create the quilt and members have helped out as they are able. Cheryl Cherry ap-plied the sashing. Gloria Reibin did the machine quilting and Rose Johnson put on the binding. Jude Schmitz is doing photography and each member who is selling raffle tickets will receive a small version of the photo for dis-play purposes. Sheila Hart obtained the lottery license and the sale period is June 4October 4. Sheila Hart, Laura McEachern and Rosemary Wal-lach have arranged sales locations and the sign up sheet is now available for the 21 days of sales. A page with all of the dates and locations listed will be e-mailed to members so that they can call Sheila and book their preferred times and locations. A Sign-Up Sheet will also be available at Guild meetings. All proceeds from the Quilt Raffle will go to the Koote-nay Lake Hospital Foundation. Only one quilt top is being made as the
Quilters Draw has been discontinued.
QUILT SHOW 2015THE ART OF QUILTING
Planning for the 2015 Quilt Show, THE ART OF QUILTING, is well underway. We are thrilled to an-nounce that Janet Jones and Dorothea Housworth will be our feature quilters. Elsie Gates and Bonnie Chalmers will again be overseeing the Hanging of the Quilts. Darlene Hearn and Irene Evanoff will be put-ting together the fabulous raffle baskets and will be asking for donations for those. Sheila Hart has been plan-
ning out her advertising strategy for this show.
REGISTRATION FORMS are now available and the deadline for entries is September 17, 2015. If you submit an entry and then withdraw, it is essential that you inform Dianne Watts as pre-planning is done for the quilt displays. Please include a small photo of your quilt on each entry form this year. It will make the pre
-planning of quilt hanging at the show so much easier.
Sandi St. Denis and night guild members will be co-ordinating the BOUTIQUE again this year, and will
have a larger space at the show. Keep this in mind if you wish to sell any of your wonderful creations.
We have chosen PAINT CHIPS as our CHALLENGE for this year. You will choose an envelope with a paint chip inside, and will have the opportunity to trade it in once if you are unhappy with the colour. The challenge piece may include any tone of your paint chip plus two other colours. The maximum perimeter of
the finished piece is no larger than 120 inches around the edges.
Thanks to our great planning team of Diane Watts and Leah Gray (Co-ordinators), Elsie Gates and Bonnie Chalmers (set-up and vendors) and Val Swetlishoff (Night Guild Liaison), Rosemary Wallach, Laura
McEachern and Sheila Hart (PR & Raffle Sales). Thanks to Elsie Gates for creating the show poster.

Originally from Nelson, Jo-Anne recently moved back and one of the first things she wanted to do was join the Kootenay Quilters Guild. She already knew quite a bit about it from former members Amy Stevens and Trudy Moulyn. This is her first experience in joining a guild and she is already enjoying the camaraderie of fellow quilters and is keen to take
on new challenges and learn more from this talented group.
Jo-Anne did some quilting in the late 90s and loved piecing but wasnt keen on hand quilting and so it was a hobby that went dormant. In Jan-uary 2011, Jo-Anne moved from Holland to Toronto and a family friend from Thrums insisted that she invest in a decent sewing machine and take up quilting. Her friend had recently been bitten by the quilting bug and her enthusiasm was infectious. Jo-Anne followed her advice
and was soon addicted.
Jo-Anne has been trying out different styles and techniques and is al-ways looking for new challenges. Her main interest at the moment is to improve her free-motion quilting on her domestic machine. She
wants to bring her quilts to life from start to finish. She feels that quilting is as important as the piecing and an art form in itself as it can change the tone of a very simple pieced quilt into something special. Her goal is to
develop a skill set that will allow her to bring her own designs to life.
When not quilting, Jo-Anne is studying it in books and blogs. Being very visual, she takes advantage of all of the great tutorial videos that are now available on the internet. She also likes that she can stay abreast of new trends and techniques from the movers and shakers in the industry. There are so many avenues to explore that the possibilities are endless along with a wish list of pro-jects. She enjoys the enthusiasm of quilters and loves to share their
passion and feels privileged to be part of such a community.
Welcome to the Kootenay Quuilters Guild, Jo-Anne!

In March, the Art Group played with printing images on fabric using gelatin plates, found objects and fab-ric paint. It was a fun and tactile session and clearly
demonstrates the variety of ideas in the group.
