Formatting your Flash Drive

First of all, the USB flash drive will have to be formatted to FAT32 format. Format process will delete all data on the flash drive. If there is data on the flash drive you want to keep, be sure to back this up before proceeding.

• Insert the flash drive into a computer. • Using your computer’s file browser, locate the flash

drive. In Windows-based systems, you can do this by opening the “My Computer” window. Mac-based systems will display an icon for the flash drive on the dashboard.

• Open the contextual menu for the flash drive. On Windows-based systems, this is done by right-clicking the icon. On Mac-based systems, hold the Apple button and click the icon.

• Choose FORMAT from the contextual menu.

To format your USB flash drive:

• The format dialog box will appear. Here, you’ll be able to choose what type of file structure you want to use for your flash drive. Choose “FAT32”.

• Click FORMAT or START (depending on the options your operating system presents).

Please note that the firmware file does not have a file extension. (eg. HP4CH)

Preparing the Firmware

Once you’ve formatted the flash drive, load a copy of the firmware onto the flash drive.

• Ensure that the flash drive is connected to your computer. • Open an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Chrome. Almost

any browser will do, so whatever default browser for your system has should work.

• In the address bar enter: http://www.ktncusa.com/dvr_nvr/960h and select the DVR model by channel number.

• Download the firmware from “DOWNLOADS” tab.

Copy the downloaded file into prepared USB flash drive. Note: The firmware file must be on the root drive of the USB flash drive in order for DVR to recognize it.

Note: It will save the configuration onto the root folder of USB flash drive. The save file will have ‘.cnf’ file extension. If you need to save multiple configuration setting into a single USB flash drive, rename the saved HPxxCH.cnf file from explorer.

Configuration Backup

It is always recommended to have your configuration setting backed up. This will prevent from losing your original setting when something goes wrong after the update.

• Ensure that the flash drive is connected to your DVR. • Go to Setup -> System -> Upgrade and select “Save Configuration”

DVR will show you which port it detects the USB flash drive on.

The DVR will scan root folder of the USB flash drive and display the firmware.

To check the current version of firmware, go to Setup -> System -> Information -> Version.

After the firmware update is done, the DVR will reboot by itself. • After the reboot, go to Setup -> System -> Default Setup and select “Factory

Setup”. Note: The factory setup will initialize all parameters including network setup and passwords.

To load your saved configuration: • Ensure that the flash drive is still connected to your DVR. • USB flash drive with saved configuration file would display “File Exist” under

detected USB device.

Note: If you have multiple configuration files on the USB, it will display the configuration file list. • Go to Setup -> System -> Upgrade and select “Load Configuration”
