Majority of deaths in fire situation are caused by smoke inhalation. Fire resisting ductwork system can be responsible for not allowing the initial spread of fire between the compartments and restricting the rapid spread of smoke.

KAD's Non-coated Fire Rated Duct is specially designed fire rated ductwork system without coating.

FEATURES:■ Steel ducts are manufactured as per KAD’s construction schedule.■ Ducts are non-coated and needs to be installed as per KAD’s installation instruction. ■ KAD's Non-coated Ductwork System is tested and certified as per BS 476 part 24:1987 for two hour stability and integrity for type A & type B. It is also tested as per EN 1368-1:1 2012 for 2 Hrs. stability & integrity.■ Easy to install and economical.

TEST RESULT STANDARD AND CRITERIA:The duct has been subjected to the condition indicated into the BS 476 part 24:1987, Method of determination of fire resistance of ventilation ducts, in order to verify the performance criteria stated in this standard for horizontal and vertical ducts.

STABILITY: (Chapter 9.2.1 of BS 476 Part 24:1987)KNFRD system when subjected to the stability test according to BS 476 Part 24:1987 standard, did not collapse in such a manner that duct no longer fulfill its intended function for 2 Hrs. KAD’s Non-coated Fire Rated Ductwork System fulfils the stability criteria for 2 Hrs.

INTEGRITY: (Chapter 9.2.1 of BS 476 Part 24:1987)

KAD’s Non-coated Fire Rated Ductwork System when subjected to

integrity test according to BS 476 Part 24:1987, for 2 Hrs., it did not

showed any presence or formation of crack, holes or any other opening

outside the furnace, through which fumes or hot gasses can pass. Also

there is no ignition of cotton pads or appearance of any sustained flaming

(10 Sec) on the unexposed surface of the duct.

KAD’s Non-coated Fire Rated Ductwork System fulfils the integrity criteria for 2 Hrs.

Type A• Section in fire stopping is involved with a metal framework made of galvanized steel sheet as shown the picture. The gap

between duct and metal framework is filled with rock wool reference “Fujairah Loose Wool” of 50 mm in thickness and 100 kg/m3. It is fixed to duct by means of welding spots.

• Galvanized steel angles of 100 x 100 mm and 3 mm in thickness, attached to duct with 4.8 x 16 mm steel rivet 150 from each other, and to supporting construction by means of Ø 6 x 32 mm screws each 150 mm.

• Intumescent sealant reference “Intufire® Acrylic” by DeltA for sealing any gap or joint between duct and supporting construction.

Type B• The gap between the duct and supporting construction is filled with rock wool reference “ProRox SL 960” by rock wool of

50 mm in thickness and 100 kg/m3.• Section in fire stopping is involved with silicate boards reference “PROMATECT®-L500” by Promat 20 mm thick. The gap

between duct and silicate board is filled with rock wool reference “ProRox SL 960” by rock wool of 50 mm in thickness and 100 kg/m3, compressed to fit in the gaps.

• Galvanized steel angles of 75 x 75 mm in dimensions and 3 mm in thickness, attached to silicate boards by M8 x 20 mm self-drilling screws 150 mm from each other, and to supporting construction by means of M10 x 50 mm screws each 130 mm. Angle frame is bolted in corners by means of M10 bolts and nuts.

VERTICAL DUCT INSTALLATION:

Support - Vertical ducts must be supported at each floor level so that the weight of the duct is taken by

the floor. This must not compromise the penetration seal. If the distance between the floors is greater

than 5 m then intermediate supports must be fitted, e.g. cantilever bracket from adjacent fire rated wall.

Also, to prevent buckling of the duct, the distance between supports should not exceed 8 times the

smallest lateral dimension across the outside face of the duct.

The design of the penetration seal through a floor is the same as the design of the seal through walls

for horizontal ducts.

HANGING AND SUPPORT:

Duct is directly supported on an auxiliary structure formed by “L” angle steel profile of 50 mm x 50 mm x 5 mm

thickness with M10 threaded rod. These threaded rod subject themselves directly to the slab. The largest

distance between suspension devise is 1250 mm. The lateral dimension between the outer vertical surface

of the duct and the center line of the suspension device is 50 mm.
