Knownforitsreligiousvalue,culturalsignificance,physicalbeauty
& thrilling nature, Kailash ManasarovarYatra is undertaken by
thousands of people every year. Holding significance for the
HindusastheabodeofLordShiva, itholdsreligiousimportance
alsofortheJainsandtheBuddhists.
Lake Manasarovar lies at 4556mt above sea level and is the
highest freshwater lake in the world. As per Hindu theology,
drinking water from the lake cleanses all the sins of the past
hundred lives!However,whether it is thepristinebeautyof the
regionoritsreligioussignificanceorthethrillingnatureofthetrek
throughsnowcoveredhillyterrains,roughweatherandbeautiful
expanses,KMYisamuchsought-afterextraordinaryexperience.

Ministry of External Affairs organizes Kailash ManasarovarYatra
every year from last week of May up to end of September. A
maximumof960yatris(includingLiaisonOfficers)canparticipate
intheYatra.TheYatraisundertakenin16batches,eachledbya
LiaisonOfficer,whoisappointedbytheMinistryofExternalAffairs.
TheKailashManasarovarYatraadvertisementispublishedinmajor
nationalandregionalnewspapersinthefirstfortnightofJanuary
every year. The advertisements are also placed in Doordarshan
and All India Radio. Advertisement in newspapers gives very
detailed informationabout theeligibilitycriteria,arduousnature
oftheYatra,risktoperson’slife,selectionprocess,comprehensive
medical testswhich aremandatory, amount of fees charged by
variousorganizationsinvolvedintheYatra,andthenon-refundable
component of payments. Both the advertisement and ‘Kailash
ManasarovarYatra’ booklet arepostedonofficialwebsiteof the
MinistryofExternalAffairs.
The duration of the ‘Yatra proper’ is 27 days. However, before
beginning the ‘Yatra proper’, the yatris need to spend 3-4 days
inDelhitocompletevariousformalities,suchasobtainingavisa,
undergoingamedicalexamination,etc.Theyatrisneedtofinalise
theirtravelplansaccordingly.Thescheduleforthisyear’sYatrais
givenattheendofthisbooklet.Thetraveldatesindicatedforthe
batchallottedtoeachyatrimaypleasebenoted.

Assoonasayatriisinformedabouthis/herselectionfortheKM
Yatra, a non-refundable bank draft for rs.5,000/- drawn in
favour of “Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam”,payableatDelhi,should
besentassoonaspossible(anddefinitelybeforethespecificdate
giveninthetelegram)toconfirmparticipationintheYatra.Ifthis
draftisnotreceivedintime,itwillbepresumedthattheyatriisnot
interestedinparticipatinginthisyear’sYatra,andhis/herslotwill
begiventoanotherapplicantfromthereservelist.

Yatris must ensure that they bring the following documents
with them when they arrive in delhi for the Yatra:
•ordinary indian Passport (valid for more than 6 months
asonSeptember1,2011)
•indemnity bond, as given at annexure-a. All the yatris are
requiredtosignthisIndemnityBondstatingthattheyundertake
the yatra at their own risk.The bondmust be executed on a
non-judicialstamp-paperofRs.10/-orasapplicablelocallyand
authenticatedbyaFirstClassMagistrateoraNotaryPublic.
•two recent passport size photographsrequiredduringmedical
examination.

Yatris must ensure that they are carrying sufficient funds
to cover the following items of expenditure:
1.Visa feeincash(asapplicable)
2.Cashordraft (payable to“KumaonMandalvikasNigam”) for
rs. 22,000/-(inclusive of Service Tax). (This is the balance
amount tobepaid toKumaonMandalvikasNigam (KMvN),
after adjusting Rs. 5000/- already paid as confirmation of
theyatri’sparticipation)
3.rs. 3,100/-, in cash, for payment for general medical
examination to be done at: Delhi Heart and Lung Institute
Panchkuian Road, New Delhi PHONE: 2353 8351/8, 4299
9999,42999900TELEFAX:23514489.in case an individual is
required by the medical authority to undergo a stress echo
test, an additional rs. 2,500/- would be charged for that
particular test from the yatri concerned. these charges are
non refundable. (A list of the testswhichwill be conducted
during the medical examination is given at annexure-b for
reference)
4.adequate cash to purchase necessary foreign exchange,
if not already done. It must be remembered that
us$ 750/- has to be paid to the Chinese authorities.
Presently, the charge of US$750 for every yatri entails the
following:lodgingfor12nights,completemealchargesforfour

daysatPulan(Taklakot), transportationcharges for theentire
duration, yak hire charges (transporting baggage), horse/pony
chargesatLipulekh,entryticketsforKailashandManasarovar
and entry tickets for Kejia temple. Self paid items include:
horses,yaks,porters,ponyhandlers,etc.usedfortheParikrama.
The standard charges are: horse/pony RMB 150 per day, yak
RMB100perday,porterRMB120perdayorpony/yakhandler
RMB 100 per day (rates are indicative, subject to change,
presentexchangeratebeing1RMB=Rs.6.9).FortheParikrama,
thechargesarecalculatedasthree-dayridecharges.Also,some
additional foreign exchange would be required to cover
other expenditure on the Chinese side, such as food, guide
fees, etc.
5.adequate cash to cover other expenditures on the indian
side, such as charges for hiring cook(s), porters, guide, etc.
The yatris must also ensure that they have made adequate
preparationsfortheYatra.Adetailedlistofminimumrequirements

daY 1 Medical check up
The yatris will be required to report atdelhi Heart and lung
institute, Panchkuian road, New delhi (tel: 42999999,
42999900, 23538351-8 fax: 23514489)formedicaltestsonan
empty stomach. Samples forvarious testswillbe takenon this
day.an amount of rs. 3,100/- (for general medical check up)
to the hospital (in cash or by credit card) would have to be
paid by each yatri. in case a yatri is required by the medical
authorities to undergo a further stress echo test, an additional

a strict medical test will be conducted at delhi Heart & lung
institute. Medical reports from any other hospital/other
sources will not be accepted. once a yatri is declared unfit,
he/she will not be permitted to participate in any other batch
during that year. Yatri should ensure that they are in good
health and in fit condition before they apply for the yatra.

OnthemorningofDay1,KumaonMandalvikasNigam(KMvN)

fromtheyatrissothatwhilethemedicalexaminationisbeing
conducted,theChinesevisasareprocessed.
As Chinese Embassy gives a group visa for the whole batch,
there will be no endorsement on any individual passport.
The passports and group visawill be returned to the concerned
LiaisonOfficeronDay3.Ifayatrihasnotobtainedthenecessary
foreign exchange till then, he/shemay ensure that the passport
istakenbackfromtheLOonDay3sothatthetransactioncan
becompleted.

Yatris are required to report at 1000 hrs at the Ministry of
external affairs, akbar bhawan (anarkali Hall) for briefing
on the Yatra.Theymust alsobringwith them the following for
submissionbeforethebriefing:
• Cash/draft forRs.22,000/- (payable to“KumaonMandalvikas
Nigam”)
• the indemnity bond
• an undertaking forevacuationbyhelicopterinemergency
• a duly filled in Consent form
these forms are at annexure a, i & J respectively. TheLiaison
Officer (LO)wouldhave returned thepassports to theyatris by
then.
Note:Theyatrismayarrange the required foreignexchangeand
IndemnityBondfromtheirhometownsubjecttotheguidelinesof
theReserveBankofIndia(RBI)andasperAnnexure-Aofthisguide
book respectively.Yatris are also strongly advised to take life
insurance policy before undertaking the yatra.

At Taklakot, if required, the batch will be divided into two
groups, with one group undertaking the Kailash Parikrama
(on foot) followed by the Manasarovar Parikrama (by bus) and
theotherdoingfirsttheManasarovarParikramafollowedbythe
KailashParikrama.This isprimarilybecause thecampsalong the
Parikramacanaccommodateonlyabout30people comfortably.
Both the groupswill be taken toQihu by bus.While the group
which will do first the Manasarovar Parikrama will remain at
Qihu, the group doing the Kailash Parikrama first will be taken
toDarcheninadifferentbus.
The Qihu group will move to Darchen after completing the
ManasarovarParikramawhiletheothergroup,aftercompletingthe
KailashParikrama,willreturntoQihu.

daY 1 delhi to almora
From New Delhi, the yatris will be taken in an air-conditioned
coach toAlmora,a small town in the foothillsof theHimalayas
in the Kumaon hills ofUttarakhand.As the yatris have to leave
Delhiinthemorningby0600hours,theymustensurethattheir
baggage is packed and ready by 0500 hours.The journey from
Kathgodam to Dharchula is performed by non-A.C. buses. The
KMvNwillmakearrangementsfornighthaltonreachingAlmora.
This isan idealdayfortheyatristogettoknoweachother.For
the successful completion of theYatra it is essential to develop
betterunderstandingofeachotherparticularlythestrengthsand
weaknessesofeachyatri.
daY 2almora to dharchula
ThedaybeginsearlyasthedrivefromAlmoratoDharchulatakes
almost11hours.Thenon-ACCoachwilltraversethroughthesmall
townofPithoragarhandtheIndo-TibetBorderPolice(ITBP)Camp
HeadquartersatMirthi.Pithoragarh,wheretheyatrisstopforlunch,
offersspectacularviewofmountainpeaksandgreenhillsides.The
viewfromthewatchtowerattheguesthouseissplendid.However,
yatrisareadvisednottospendtoomuchtimehereasthejourney

toDharchula is through steepmountain roads. It is advisable to
haveaquickmealandaimtoreachDharchulabylateafternoon.
Yatriswhoarepronetomotionsicknessareadvisedtotakeproper
medicationat Pithoragarh itself.The townofDharchula, located
onthebankofriverKali,withNepaljustacrosstheriver,isthelast
bigtownenroutetoKailashManasarovar.Theyatrisareadvisedto
makenecessarylast–minutepurchaseshereasthisplaceprovides
a comparatively large selectionof goods at reasonableprices as
comparedtoanyotherplacefurtheronduringthecourseofthe
journey.ItmustbenotedthatatDharchula,baggagerestrictions
willcomeintooperation.Eachyatriwillberequiredtocarry5kgs
ofcommonfoodstuffforthegrouptobeconsumedontheChinese
side.Asthetotalbaggageweightislimitedto25kgs,eachyatriis
requestedtoensurethathis/herpersonalluggagedoesnotexceed
20kgseach.
Dharchula iswhereall theyatriswouldneedtodecideonhiring
ponies and/or personal porters for the entire trip on the Indian
sideuptotheTibetanborder.Therequirementsmaybeconveyed
totheLiaisonOfficerinadvance,sothatnecessaryarrangements
canbemadefortheentiregroup,incoordinationwiththeKMvN
officials.

daY 3 dharchula to sirkha (via tawa Ghat / Pangu)
Onthirdday,Yatriswillundertake44kmsjourneyfromDharchula
toPanguviaTawaghatbybusandthen13kmstrekfromPanguto
Sirkha(KMvNCamp)viaNarayanSwamiAshram.Trekkingwould
startfromPangu.AtPangu,Yatriscanhireportersandponiesfor
carryingluggageandforpersonaluseforthefurtherjourney(up
to Lipu Pass). Pangu lies in Chaudasvalley of Dharchula tehsil
and is thefirstvillageenroute to theYatra.AfineviewofKhela
andsurroundings is seen fromthisplace.Onecanalsoviewthe
HimalayanpeaksinNepalregion.
SituatedontheKailashMansarovarRoute,NarayanSwamiAshram
hasbeenbuiltbyShriNarayanSwamiji.TheconstructionofAshram
startedintheyear1936.Ittook10yearstoconstructtheAshram.
Allthematerialforthetempleandhousingweretransportedfrom
Almora.300 to500peoplewereengaged in theconstructionof
the temple and the buildings. NarayanAshram is known for its
picturesque,scenicandmesmerizingbeauty.

daY 4 sirkha to Gala
Sirkha is at a distance of 14 kms from Gala. A few shops are
availableinSirkha.FromSirkha,YatriswillproceedtowardsSamuri
(2316mts)whichisatadistanceof2kms.Thereissteepascent
through thick forest from Samuri to Rungling or Samuria-Dhar
(3048mts).ThisisfollowedbyasteepdescentfromSamuria-Dhar
to the stream Simkhola-gad. From Simkhola-gad, a gentle slope
willleadYatristothevillageGala(KMvNCamp).
daY 5Gala to budhi
The day beginswith a strenuous 18 km downhill trek to Budhi.
Onanaverage,thetrektakesabout7to12hoursdependingon
thefitnesslevelsoftheyatris.Themostarduouspartofthetrek
isthefirst7to8kmsuntilLakhanpur.Theroutedownhillisrocky
&narrowandmustbetraversedonfoot.Stepshavebeencarved
outoftherockheretomakethetreksomewhatcomfortable.After
Lakhanpur, thetracktakesmoreor lessa levelcourse,alongthe
riverKali,whichisaverybeautifulstretch.Alongtheway,asthe
yatrismayhavetocrossthroughsomewaterfalls,raincoatsmaybe
kepthandy.ThevillageofLamariisonthisroutewhichisagood
placetorestandenjoyahotcupoftea.

FromLamari,thecurvingtrailwilltaketheyatristhroughMalpa,the
siteofthetragiclandslideof1998.Here,therubblestillcoversa
partofthecamp.KMvNwillprovidelunchfortheyatrisatMalpa.
Thelaststretchofthetrail isacrossaquaintbridgewhichleads
tothecampatBudhi.Oncetheyatrishaverecoupedsufficiently,
theymayvisittheoldflourmill(Gharat)runonhydelpower,which
suppliesthelocalvillagewithfineatta.
daY 6 budhi to Gunji
AfteranovernightstayatBudhi, theyatriswillbeginoneofthe
mostscenictreksonthe Indiansideofthe journeywithasteep
climbof5kms.Justasstrainisfelt,thepathlevelsoutandwinds
itswaythroughthespectacularvalleyofChhialekh.
Thesightsofspecialimportanceinthevalleyincludeitsprofusionof
raremountainflowers(likecobraflowers,irises,MayAppleflower,
Kasturi Kamal etc.) and the glacier.The yatriswillwalk through
abeautifulgreenmeadowontheirwaytoGarbyang,alsoknown
asthesinkingvillage,withquainthouseshavingcarveddoorsand
newelposts.TheapproachtoGunjiisthroughathicketofaromatic
trees,whichexudesthelocalincense.Theyatriswillalsohavethe

pleasureofseeingtheconfluenceoftheKaliandtheTinkerrivers
withtheTinkerhurtlingawayintoNepal.
daY 6 & 7Gunji
AtGunji,thereisatwonighthaltwheretheITBPmedicalteamwill
testtheyatrisagaintogaugetheirfitness.Theywillbeallowedto
continuethepilgrimageonlyiftheyclearthistest.
daY 8 Gunji to Nabhidhang (via Kalapani)
From this point, the ITBP team, and its doctors, will guide the
yatrisuptotheTibetanborderfromwheretheChineseauthorities
will take over. This trek along the Kali is done in stages with
ITBP jawans guiding the yatris every step of theway.The route
fromGunji climbshigherandelevates inagradualmannerwith
vegetationchanges.AstheyatrisgetclosertoKalapani,theywill
passamountainwhichhasSage‘vyasa’scave’.AccordingtoHindu
legend,thisisthecavewhereSagevyasaperformedpenancefor
years.AflagpostedbytheITBPisindicativeoftheentrancetothe
cave.TheITBPhasbuiltahydelprojectovertheriverKali,which

suppliespowerfortheKalapanicamp.AtKalapani,theyatrisfind
an emigration checkpoint, where all the documents including
passportareverifiedbeforetheymovetowardstheborder.
ThestretchfromKalapanitoNabhidhangisanuphillclimb.Asthe
yatrismovetotheupperreachesoftheHimalayas,theKaliwillbe
leftfarbelow.
The9-kmstretchtakestheyatrisabovethetreelinerevealingthe
faceofthemountains.Duringthefloweringseason,therouteitself

ThisisthelaststretchinIndiabeforetheyatriscrossovertothe
Tibetanside.This isa treacherouswalkat thebestof timesand
moresoiftheweatherconditionsarenotpropitiousatthenarrow
pass, which is at 16,500 ft.The crossing of the pass is a finely
timedaffairwiththegroupcrossingintoTibetmeetingthegroup
thathascompleted itsParikramaand is returningto India.Yatris
havetoleavethecampasearlyas0300hourssoastomeetthe
returninggrouparound0700hoursatthepass.Thecrossingmust
becompletedbetween0700hoursand0900hours,thetimewhen
theweatherconditionsaregenerallyfavourable.
Yatrismusttakecaretoavoidsuccumbingtohighaltitudetiredness,
as the winds are bitter and the atmosphere is rare with little
oxygen.Evenahalf-hourhaltcanbedifficulttowithstand.Itishere
thatthegrouphastoshowahighspiritofcooperationtoensure
thateachmemberisabletocrossthisdifficultstretchacrossice
andsnowsuccessfully.ITBPpersonnelwillofcoursebepresentto

andnormallyincludesrice,soupandboiledvegetablesprovidedby

AnEnglish-speakingTibetanguideaccompanieseachgroupduring
the Parikramas of Kailash and Manasarovar. The camps along
the route offer basic facilities and each camp can comfortably
accommodate only 30 persons at a time.Therefore, if required,
the batch may split into two groups- one goes to Kailash first

remarkablybeautifulinitsownway.WhileManasarovarislikened
tothesunand light,RakshashTal iscomparedtothemoonand
thedarknessofnight.ItisbelievedthatRavanameditatedonthe
shoresofRakshasTaltoseekShiva’sfavour.Thelake,is,therefore,
referredtoasRavanaTal.ItisfromRakshashTalthatonegetsthe
firstviewoftheMountKailash.

This48KmParikramaofKailashstartsfromtheBarkhaPlains,aflat,
barrenstretchofland.ThefirstlegwilltaketheyatristoDeraphuk,
14kmsfromDarchen.Thefirst10kmsarecoveredbybus/truck.
Uponreachingthe‘Yamdwar’thepropertrekbegins.Afterabout
10kms,theyatrisentertheLaChuvalleyorthevalleyoftheRiver
oftheGods.Alongtheway,magnificentrockcliffstoweraround,
withstreamsandwaterfallsflowingfromsomeofthem.Someof
the rocks have inscriptions of Buddhistmantras on them.Yatris
whohavechosentorideonyakshavetowaithereforabouttwo

ItprovidesamagnificentviewofMt.Kailash.Thisistheclosestand
clearestviewonecangetofKailash,aspectacularsightespecially
when illuminated by the rays of the setting sun.The yatris will
spendanightinthiscamp.
The next day, they will set off from Deraphuk on a trail which
ascends to an 18,600-feet pass, supposed to be guarded by a
TibetangoddesscalledDolma.Alongtheway,aflatstretchstrewn
withdiscardedclothingcanbeseen.ThisisShivSthal,whereYama,
theKingofDeathissupposedtojudgethosewhocrossit.Crossing
the Dolma pass remains a test of faith and determination, as
blizzardsareknowntostrikewithoutwarning.Arockhereissaid
torepresentthegoddessTaraDevi.YatriscanpraytoGoddesswith
theprayerflags,placepotsofbutterandlightincensesticks.Itis
notadvisabletostayherefortoolongastherarefiedatmosphere

As the yatris descend from the Dolma Pass, they will pass the
emerald green Gauri Kund, the lake where goddess Parvati is

boulders till one reaches Zongzerbu. After a night’s halt, yatris
headback forDarchen, takingadifferent route,which ismostly
on flat terrain. From Darchen, the yatris may, if time permits,

Parikrama of Manasarovar
On the foothills of Mount Kailash, lies the magnificent lake of
Manasarovar. The lake changes colour with the passing hours
and seasons. Itmaybeplacidnowand tempestuous soonafter.
Thereflectionofthesun,theclouds,thestarsandeven,Kailash,
keeps thebeholder spellbound.The lake is large, being88-km in
circumferenceandwithamaximumdepthof300ft,itsfascinating
variety and beauty capture the heart and imagination of the
viewers.The water of the lake can be freezing at certain times
of the day and during certain seasons- and pleasantlywarm at
others.Regardlessofthetemperature,devoutyatrisdon’tmissan

The first camp atQihu,where the yatris spend 2 days iswell -
equippedandoffersastunningviewofthe lake.Theretheyatris
canbatheinthelakeandofferpuja.Itisrequestedthatdamage

useofsoapordetergentwhilebathingisprohibited.Thosewishing
tohaveaproperbathmayvisitthebathsatthehotwatersprings.

TheparikramabeginswithadrivethroughthevastplainsofBarkha
toQugu,adistanceofabout85kms.ThereisabriefhaltatHore,
which has a basic market where one can purchase fresh fruits
andvegetables.ThecampatQuguislocatedonthebanksofthe
ManasarovarLake.Yatriscan,iftheywish,performtheirpujahere.
The next day, the yatris return to Qihu, thus completing the
Parikrama of LakeManasarovar.Theywill stay onemore day at
Qihu tomeet the other half of their original group, and return
toTaklakottogether.

Moving forward….
After a two-day stay at Taklakot to complete Emigration and
Customs formalities, theyatris have to cross back into India via
theLipulekhpass.
The return journey from Lipulekh to Dharchula is via the same
routeastakenontheonwardjourneyexceptthatfromDharchula,
theyatrishavetotraveltoJageshwarinsteadofKathgodamand
thentoDelhi.

camps. Portable generators provide electricity at all camps for

Taklakot is an important town in the area. Accommodation is
providedatPulanGuestHousefortheyatris,whereregularrooms
areavailablewithcots,mattresses,comforters(razai),etc.Electricity
andhotwaterforbathingisavailableatspecifictime.AtTaklakot,
theChineseauthoritiesprovidevegetarianfoodofChineseflavour,
suchasbread,vegetablesoup,noodles,boiledrice,etc.
The camps at Dharchen, Deraphuk, Zongzerbu, Qugu andQihu
arebasicstructuresandhaveseveralrooms,whicharetobeshared.
Eachroomcanaccommodate4to6yatris.Mattresses,pillowsand

High altitude illnesses (Hai)
Highaltitudeisaheightmorethan2,500meters(8,000ft)above
the sea level. The main problem at high altitude is decreased
availability of oxygen. HAI usually appears 6–12 hours after an
ascent speciallywhenascending to10,000 ft in less thanaday.
Individualswho have suffered earlier and pre-menstrualwomen
aremoresusceptible.HAIareof3types:
i. acute Mountain sickness (aMs)
AMS is themost frequenttypeofaltitudesicknessencountered.
Itmayoccurafteragaininaltitudeof2500metersormore.Itis

Yatrisundertakingthepilgrimageduringmid-JunetoAugustshall
bedoingsoduringthemonsoons.Therainsareunpredictable.The
firstfewdaysofthetrek,inthelowerreaches,mayofteninvolve
walkingintherain.Themonsoonislessintenseinthehigherreaches.
Forthelattercolderpartofthetrek,itisnecessarytoavoidgetting
wet.A good raincoat is essential, and so also are woollens and
windcheatersforprotectionagainstwindy,rainyweather. Inthe
higheraltitudes,ittendstobehotduringday-timeandcoldafter
sunset.Therearealsocoldwindsandthecombinationofchanging
weatherandexposuretoultra-violetradiationcandamagetheskin,
unlessadequateprecautionsaretakenbyapplyingliberalamount
ofsuntanlotion.Eachyatrimustuseabroadpeacaporstrawhat
toprotectone’sfaceagainsttheharshsunlight.Extrapairsofwarm

The mountains must be treated with respect and attempts to
‘conquer’mountainsorshowingoffphysicalfitnessshouldnotbe
made.Onemustwalkatasteady,rhythmicpace.Walkingwitha
companionisagoodsafetymeasureagainstsuddensicknessand
accidents.
Duringelectricstormsoneshouldnotattractlightningbyputting
uppointedobjects like ice-axesorwirelessaerials.Similarly,one

theycomefortheYatra.
Theyatrismustensurethattheyweartwopairsofsocks(cotton

Theyatrismustensurethattheirfeetremaindry.Theymustuse
dustingpowderbeforewearingsocksandchangeintodrysocksas

extreme discomfort, blisters and skin ailments. It is therefore

Wellfittingglovesmustdefinitelybeworntoprotectthehands.
Extremities (hands and feet), ears and nose must be protected
againstextremecold.Continuousexposureofextremitiescanbring
down the body temperature drastically and cause high altitude
pulmonary oedema. It is very important to drink a lot ofwater

Suncreamorcalaminelotionshouldbeappliedtotheexposedparts
ofthebodytoavoidsunburn,particularlyduringtheParikramas.

Since yatris have to carry food for the duration of both the
Parikramas, i.e. 9 days, they should plan and purchase the food
items in India itself.As a basic guideline, the food items should
beeitherpre-cooked/partly-cookedoreasytocook,asfoodtakes
much longer to cook at high altitudes.As far as possible, food
shouldbeconsumedinliquidform.
Thenormal practice is for eachbatch todecideon the amount
and typeof food items theywish tocarrywith themandmake
purchasesaccordingly.Yatrisofeachgroupcouldmakecombined
purchase of food items in New Delhi for the sake of logistical
convenienceduringtheYatra.
