Make Bullying History: Last Friday, the Years 4-6 students attended a workshop at St Paul’s school hosted by Brett Murray from the Make Bullying History Foundation. The informative session unpacked what bullying is and how to identify bullying. Brett helped us understand why people do it, and how to stop it! If you would like to learn more, feel free to browse the Foundation’s website: https://makebullyinghistory.org/public/

Band: Our school welcomes music teacher and musician, Rhys McKee from the Murray Conservatorium of Music to assist Tony Smith with the band program. Rhys comes with a wealth of experience and is already proving to be very popular with the students. He will teach the saxophone, flute and clarinet. Beanies: Our beanies are selling like hotcakes. If you would like to purchase one they are $5 and are available at the office.

Our students enjoyed the Anti Bullying workshop held last Friday at St Paul’s. We have also welcomed Rhys to our school music program who will be teaching our students.

CLASS NEWS YEAR 5

Wow its week 4 already and we are well and truly into the term now. First of all NAPLAN is finished!!! All the students did a great job and we are all proud of the effort they have put in. We also must thank Ms Byles for her support during this time and encouraging the kids to keep going during the test. Now that NAPLAN is over, I am really looking forward to getting back into a normal routine with the class and start some fantastic topics and lessons.

Students have been enjoying the hands on activities within the main lessons of the day and enjoy rotating around the class to join in and have a go at each of the activities. As you can see some different Maths activities in the photos below looking at both chance and times tables. This will also be a similar way we will conduct literacy each day, starting from next week. In Writing we are looking closely at some narratives. Each week we will look at a different component of a narrative, leading up to the end of the term where students will have written a story, but also present the story in a fun way such as; a movie, comic or even acting with some friends!

Just a friendly reminder that all students should be practicing both their spelling and times table at home to increase understanding within the classroom. If you are having any trouble achieving this, please get in contact with me.

Have a lovely week - Miss Watson

CLASS NEWS YEAR 5 CONTINUED

Kalori / 5

Let’s take a moment to hear from some of our Year 5 students.

In Year 5 Black we do a lot

of hands on stuff. Our day

is always made fun. Brain

teasers are fun, tricky and a

good way to get our brains

working for the day.

Misty

I really enjoy our pebble jar in

our class. When we are all good

we get a pebble and when it gets

to the line we all get a reward like

a treat, extra recess or movies. At

the moment we have more then

10 pebbles.

Noah T

I really enjoy our year 5

classroom. I like playing games

with our teacher and sports. Our

teacher likes to join in too which

is fun!

Mitchell

Since the year 5 class moved It

got a lot easier for the teacher

o work with the kids and the

teacher gets more learning out of

us. We do lots of challenges with

a time limit and sometimes play

hangman.

Taj

I like being in our class because all of the learning

tasks are fun and it’s hard to realise we are even learning.

Amarlie

I really enjoy doing Maths in year

5 because we have different maths

subjects on each table and we have

a time limit to get it all complete.

I can’t wait to do more science

activities because we get to make

stuff and do cool experiments. Year 5

is the best! Ryder

P & C NEWS

Attached to this Kalori are the minutes from last week’s meeting. I invite you to please take a moment to read some of the many interesting developments raised in that meeting, including a proposed change to the school sports uniform.

The next meeting of the P&C will be held Wednesday 20th June 2018 at 5.30pm in the school library. The HPS P&C Catering Committee will hold a meeting just before that at 5pm, and invite you to come along and be part of the planning for this year’s Henty Machinery Field Days.

In addition to the annual Field Days fundraiser in September, the P&C has been asked to cater at the upcoming Miss Muddy event, also at the Field Days site, on Saturday 10th November 2018. While the P&C acknowledges that it was previously resolved, due to the size of the event, that the Field Days catering in September would be the only fundraiser the P&C would undertake, it was voted unanimously to accept the invitation to cater at Miss Muddy because it is seen as a great opportunity to raise additional funds for the school, and because the Miss Muddy event is in its last year, will be a one-off fundraiser. It was also mentioned that there are parents and carers for whom the timing of the Miss Muddy event on a weekend will suit better than the Field Days which clashes with their work days during the week, and so will give others a chance to be involved. Kind Regards, Cindy Scott Secretary HPS P&C

Athletics Carnival

Our Athletics Carnival is on Friday 25th May at Billabong High School. We look forward to a great day and hope to see lots of parents and supporters there. We are still in urgent need of parental assistance on some of the events, as staff will be supervising students. Please contact the school if you can assist in any way, even for a short time. Events that do not have a volunteer will not run.

Tennis

Tennis lessons were amazing last week and all students are keen for our next round, which will not be until Week 6 now due to the Athletics Carnival.

Netball Knockout

Last Friday, nine girls played in round 2 of the Riverina netball knockout at Walla Walla against the Walbundrie Small Schools. The girls showed true determination and courage as they faced a talented team and were unable to come home with the win.

Todd Woodbridge Tennis

Years 3/4 will be participating in this event on Thursday 28th June at the Henty Tennis Courts. We hope to have a number of teams participating so keep up those tennis skills on Fridays.
