New Course Development: EEL 5332 Thin Film Technology: The course has lecture and laboratory component. The focus is on various thin film deposition techniques for microelectronic and optical devices. The course emphasizes also on the vacuum techniques, thin film devices and characterization. A set of 8 laboratory experiments covering various deposition techniques, thin film fabrication and measurements are included. EEL 5352 Semiconductor Materials and Device Characterization: The emphasis is on the semiconductor and thin film materials characterization including surface analytical techniques.. Discussion also focuses on MOSFET, BJT and Diode device parameter extractions. EEL 3041 Circuit Analysis: The course was developed for Information Technology Program EEL 3004 Electrical Networks: This is the first level circuit course developed for the EE & CpE revised curriculum. EEL 3123 Networks & Systems: This is the second level circuit course developed for the EE & CpE revised curriculum. EEL 6326C MEMS Fabrication Laboratory: This is the new graduate level course developed for the MEMS track. EEE 4463 MEMS Devices and Applications: This is a new undergraduate elective course developed to introduce MEMS devices, microfabrication, sensors and actuators, Bulk and surface micomaching, optical MEMS, Instrumentation and applications. EEE 6338: Advanced Semiconductor Fabrication Techniques: This is new graduate level course with an insight into recent trends in the deep-submicron device fabrication techniques. Discussion includes thin gate oxides, low and high-k dielectrics, chemical mechanical polishing, advanced gate structures. Laboratory Development:

• Continuous efforts have been made to improve the microelectronics clean room fabrication facility. Both RF and DC sputtering systems were made several modifications for depositing films at elevated and low temperatures.

• An electron beam (E-Beam) evaporation system was commissioned for depositing high temperature materials. Instrumental in getting several donated equipment for the clean room laboratory. Major equipment includes Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Residual Gas Analyzer from Lucent Technologies.

• Involved in the development of 1800 sq. feet of additional clean room space for Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) and Miniaturization of energy system projects.

• For the Lucent funded CMP project, commissioned several major equipment like Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Straussbaugh 8" polisher, and 4-probe resistivity mapping system in the new clean room facility.

• For the TAI funding commissioned the NT-3000 Optical Profilometer, 6 – axis micro-positioner, dedicated 3-gun sputtering system and Low leakage current characterization facility.

• Set up an automated Simultaneous C-V characterization system with the capability of characterizing ultra thin gate oxide, high and low k dielectrics and MOS capacitors.
