We are from naberezhnye Chelny!Naberezhnye Chelny is second city in size only to Kazan, the capital of the Tatarstan. Its
population is about half a million. People of more than sixty nationalities live here. The city has two parts: the old and the new. The New Town owes its existence to KAMAZ, whose construction began in December, 1969. The history of Naberezhnye Chelny is interesting and romantic. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, in the times of Kazan khanate, those vast territories belonged to the khan. But about three hundred and forty years ago, in 1552, to be more exact when Kazan was conquered by the army of Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible, these territories became the tsar’s property. As time passed the left bank of the River Kama became covered with settlements of Russia migrants. Many of those settlements were called Chelny, which means “canoes”. That explains the name of the modern city which has taken the place of those settlements: “Canoes on the Bank”.
The Kama is not a Russian name. The Udmurts and the Komi who have been living along the banks of the Kama since olden days call it “kam” or “kuma” which means “river”. That is how the word “KAMAZ” became the name of our trucks. Now we see a modern whitestoned city where old “Chelny” was once situated. So that the city’s air can be clean and the people can rest peacefully after work, all enterprises have been built beyond the city’s boundaries, in a special industrial zone. The Beghishevo International airport is not far from Chelny. Also there is Nizhnekamskaya hydro-electric power station, it’s one of many stations built on the Kama. Our city is often called “a city of the future” because the most up-to-date town-planning ideas are being realized here and there is still much more to be built.

Youth takes the lead!Each Dakar is unusual and unique. From year to year the organizers try to make the race more
diversified and interesting. The route 2012 will be run from the Atlantic to the Peruvian coast of the Pacific Ocean. Dakar has never been in Peru and we don’t know how we will be welcomed by new places. I’m sure that we will meet interesting sands and new navigational tasks.
The KAMAZ-master Team also made innovations – we go there absolutely with a young staff. This year is remarkable for us as there is an alternation of generations in our team. Of course, it won’t be all plain sailing, it’s early to suggest the consequences of this decision, but we hope that our young crews are quite well prepared to enter a competition with eminent rivals.
Last year’s race became a really record for the KAMAZ-master Team. Russian crews won the first four places in the truck standing. The twentieth Dakar in the history of the team was marked by the tenth anniversary of the victory of the KAMAZ-master. Vladimir Chagin became the winner of this prestigious international race for the seventh time. But the legendary pilot announced his retirement from the professional sport in February 2011. This news became a sensation not only for numerous fans, but also for Russian pilots’ rivals. Then there was an-nounced the team strategy concerning the rejuvenation of the sports crews, and we gradually realize this aim.
4 crews will take part in the rally Dakar: E. Nikolaev – S. Savostin – V. Rybakov, A. Mardeev – A. Belyaev – A. Shibalov, A. Karginov – A. Mokeev – I. Devyatkin, I. Mardeev – V. Mizyukaev – D. Sotnikov. Besides, the KAMAZ-master Team will provide technical support to the Kazakhstan crew of Artur Ardavichus participating on the truck KAMAZ. Only experienced co-pilots are included in the race crews. The role of the support for the young drivers has also been assigned to the crew of Ilgizar Mardeev.
Dakar is unpredictable. He always surprises, therefore every year then we go to the race we don’t have absolute confidence that we can achieve the victory, but we have a hundred percent of the desire to do it. But we have never put, and will not put the task to win at any cost to our crews. So we will try to plan our tactics and strategy to saturate the potential of the team. Leaving for the Dakar 2012, we are already thinking about how we will go to Dakar in 2013. We solve the prospective tasks for the next year.
We are dead sure of one thing – there will be greater intrigue in the truck category than if we go with our usual crews. Whatever the result we bring, it will be studied with great attention. It will be an interesting Dakar for our team as well as for the rivals!

In 2011 the pride of Russian motorsport — the KAMAZ-master Team — became winner of the most prestigious and difficult transcontinental race — the Dakar Rally — for the tenth time.
The creator and eternal leader of this unique and currently strongest truck sports team is Semen Semenovich Yakubov — an outstanding person and businessman, a brilliant manager, a professional and a real enthusiast.
Today, KAMAZ-master is the only Russian corpo-rate team that successfully represents the country in international competitions. The star crew comprises not only brilliant sportsmen, but talented profession-als as well. They develop and produce KAMAZ race trucks in NP «KAMAZ-Avtosport». Semen Yakubov conducted the development and the start of mass production of the ATV KAMAZ-4911, whose specifi-cations are much more impressive than those of simi-lar foreign vehicles. The Kamaz racers have received many government awards for their achievements.
Many times during the races he found himself in the extreme conditions which required professional skills and talent, and, moreover, great courage, for not only a sports victory but the vehicles and the lives of the crews were put on the scales.
In 2009 Semen Yakubov headed the arrange-ment of a new international rally called The Silk Way Rally, which became part of the Dakar Series. In 2010 and 2011 the second and the third Silk Way Rally took place and was an even bigger success. The well-arranged preparations and the organisation of the rally itself were highly appreciated by the gov-ernment. The rally directors — a professional team of sports managers with Semen Yakubov as chief – have shown to the whole world that racing in Russia has good perspectives.

Today, the name of our glorified compatriot, the legendary pilot of the KAMAZ-master team, - Vladimir Chagin, - is known to millions of people in different parts of the world. In 2011 he wins a title of the seven times winner of Dakar rally marathon. Five times of them Chagin was on the higher step of the podium with the «gold three» of the KAMAZ-master team, together with the head of the team, the co-pilot Semen Yakubov and the mechanic Sergey Sa-vostin. He has 63 victories at the special stages of Dakar under his belt – that’s an absolute record in the history of this most difficult race.
V.Chagin is the outstanding pilot, possessing the driving technique of the sports vehicles not surpassed by anybody in the world. Besides, a great number of his original engineering decisions were realized in the racing trucks.
«Personally for me, the marathons are interest-ing not only as the competition where you can try the skills and the technics reliability. There you can find a maximum of extreme situations where the person is put to the test. During two weeks of the race you can experience, see and learn so much, as in usual life can happen in the course of many years», – Vladimir Chagin speaks.

Eduard nikolaevPilot
The youngest member of the KAMAZ-master Team is nevertheless an experienced sportsman. Being a son of a six-times buggy champion of Russia Valentin Nikolaev, he has been interested in technics and carting since his early childhood, and he still succeeds at carting competitions.
Eduard was invited to join the KAMAZ-master Team by the team leader Semen Yakubov, who vis-ited the Russian Carting Championship which Eduard won. In 2006 he drove a sports truck for the first time during a stage of the Russian Championship. In 2007 he won the Dakar silver prize as a member of Ilgizar Mardeev’s trio. In summer 2007, as a member of Vladimir Chagin’s crew, he won the Astana Chal-lenge – Silk Road Rally 2007. In 2009 V.Chagin’s crew with Eduard as a mechanic took the second place at the Dakar.
E. Nikolaev has many times participated in differ-ent stages of the Russian Championship as a pilot. He showed a splendid performance during the SILK WAY RALLY Dakar Series. His crew took fourth place at the race Kazan – Ashkhabad in 2009. In the fol-lowing year his crew was already the first to come to the finish line of the Silk Way Rally in Sochi!

sergey savostinCo-pilot
Sergey Savostin is one of the most experi-enced members of the KAMAZ-master Team. The working schedule that by far exceeds all existing norms requires exceptional professional skills and knowledge as well as physical strength and emo-tional stability. Sergey Savostin fully possesses all of these qualities. He has proven it in what seemed to be absolutely hopeless cases, and his sports career contained many of those.
In 1996 he started as a mechanic in the Chagin-Yakubov-Savostin trio, which then began its series of Dakar victories four years later and became the «golden trio» of the KAMAZ-master Team.
In spite of his significant achievements and his reputation of the team’s most respected mechanic, Savostin has been taking part in rally raids as co-pilot in the recent years, thus starting a new stage in his career. As a member of V. Chagin’s crew he won the silver medal in the Dakar 2009 and the first place in the Dakar 2010.

vladimir rybakovMechanic
The first entry in his employment book is dated 1988 and says «hired as junior blacksmith for the sports vehicles department of the KAMAZ research and development centre». In his first working days he understood that he had joined a group of en-thusiastic and interesting people, who tirelessly spent all their free time preparing sports vehicles for participation in various competitions. Owing to the positive atmosphere of the department Vladimir gained interest and passion for motorsport.
A little later Vladimir got a chance to make his long-cherished dream come true and take part in competitions as a pilot, so he started to construct a buggy in the office basement. The management appreciated his persistence and enthusiasm and supported his idea, so the future vehicle was taken upstairs and fully assembled. Later he took part in several stages of the Russian Motocross Champion-ship with that vehicle.
As he got more experienced, Vladimir became a mechanic and participated in nationwide competi-tions and European Cup Motocross Races. Luckily, he was invited to work as a mechanic with a perspec-tive pilot (currently six-times champion of Russia) Valentin Nikolaev.
During his work for KAMAZ-master Team Vladimir accepted the invitation to join Eduard Nikolaev’s crew as a mechanic without hesitating. The debut of the new crew was a success and they took first place at the rally raid SILK WAY RALLY Dakar Series in 2010.

Ayrat MardeevPilot
Already as a schoolboy Ayrat Mardeev used to stay in the working hall of the KAMAZ-master Team all day long. He inherited his passion for technics from his father, the renowned rally pilot Ilgizar Mardeev. Ayrat learned sports driving when he took part in carting competitions. He began to drive a cart at the age of 11 and performed so well he soon became winner of nationwide competitions. One of the positive traits of Mardeev Jr. is that he is a quick learner. That is why the young team member tries to take every chance to participate in competitions, no matter whether he goes there as a pilot or as a mechanic. Despite his young age Ayrat Mardeev is already a candidate for master of sports. Three times he drove the truck during the prestigious SILK WAY RALLY Dakar Series and showed what he is worth in the sands of Turkmenistan and Kalmykia.

Aydar BelyaevCo-pilot
In 1991 Aydar Belyaev began to work at KAMAZ as a design engineer of the special vehicles depart-ment in the research and development centre. He started to prepare KAMAZ trucks for international competitions virtually from the very beginning of his career. Then he headed the highway tractor team which took part in the Europe Touring Car Champi-onship. Since 1994 the KAMAZ sports department concentrated on the preparation for participation in international marathon rallies.
Since 1996 he has been a sports crew co-pilot and has been constantly showing his perfect naviga-tion skills. The job of a sports truck co-pilot is very special. It takes not only flawless knowledge of navi-gation instruments and the correct «reading» of the route legend, but also a special co-pilot’s intuition to define the correct route which can be thousands of kilometres long and goes completely off-road through sands, mountains, canyons, forests and sa-vannas. For example, during the Paris-Dakar Rally which lasts over two weeks the crew has to travel from 300 to over 1000 kilometres every day. Even a minor mistake of the co-pilot can undermine a many days’ work of the crew. It often happens that after many thousands of kilometres the winner crews’ re-sults differ by few seconds. A navigational mistake means irretrievable loss of time or, in the worst but more common case, an accident with any possible consequences.
Today, Aydar Belyaev, the co-pilot in the KAMAZ-master Team sports crew, is one of the best co-pilots among the competitors of international rallies. He fully possesses highest professional skills alongside with absolute devotion, strong will and selflessness which he constantly shows under the extreme condi-tions during every race.

Anton shibalovMechanic
Since his early childhood Anton was keen on technics. At the age of 8 he went to Saint-Petersburg with his father and for the first time Anton got to see the Russian Carting Championship. From that moment he is absorbed in competitions, Anton Shibalov is in motorsport from the age of 12. The biggest achievement of his is the victory on the Cup of Russia, he is repeated champion of the Repub-lic of Tatarstan from his childhood. Anton joined KAMAZ-master Team in 2007. For the first time he went to Dakar as a mechanic in 2011. His debut as a mechanic of the race truck will be at the famous rally – marathon Dakar 2012.
Anton makes progress and participates as a pilot on the Silk Way Rally 2011. His crew took there the 15th place.

Andrey KarginovPilot
Andrey Karghinov was born in the family of one of the founders and promoters of buggy races in Naberezhnye Chelny. At the age of 9 he indulged in carting, several times he became the champion of Tatarstan, he is a Candidate for Master of Sports in this type of racing. Been a schoolboy, and later a student of university, Andrey had a practical train-ing in the KAMAZ research and development centre. In general the activity of KAMAZ-master Team has been familiar to him, and aroused great interest and desire to join the team. So when there was the op-portunity to join the team in 2005, it was taken with sincere enthusiasm by Karginov. In 2006 a young athlete participates as a mechanic at the different stages of the Russian Championship in the same crew with such well-known veterans of the team, as Vladimir Chagin, Semen Yakubov, Aydar Belyaev, Ilgizar Mardeev. In 2007 the young athlete par-ticipated at the stage of the Russian Championship Khazarskie Stepi as a pilot of the race truck. In 2008 Andrew was traumatized, and he had to refuse tem-porarily to participate in the competitions. In 2010 a young athlete took part in the rally Dakar for the first time in his sports career. The crew of Ilgizar Mardeev with Andrey as a mechanic took the 5th place.

Andrey MokeevCo-pilot
In 1999 Andrey Mokeev was hired by the special vehicles department of the KAMAZ branch for de-velopment and new design implementation. Three years later, having demonstrated a good working knowledge of technics and a considerable poten-tial, he took part in Rally d’Orient – Cappadocia as a mechanic in Firdaus Kabirov’s crew. After that he became a constant member of the crew of this prominent racer alongside with the other long-term member of the team – the co-pilot Aydar Belyaev. The hour of triumph of this crew was definitely the Dakar Rally victory in 2005.
In 2009, as a member of Kabirov’s crew, Mokeev took first place at the Dakar Rally and the new in-ternational SILK WAY RALLY Dakar Series which took place in Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

igor DevyatkinMechanic
People working in the KAMAZ-master Team are multiple personalities; they take a great interest in different occupations. Let’s take an example of Igor Devyatkin - sambo and aircraft construction there are only some of his hobbies. In addition since his early childhood Igor is keen on music, he profession-ally plays a trumpet, and he studied even at the Sofia Conservatory! Perhaps he could play in a popular jazz-band, but the love to the technics led him to the KAMAZ-master Team. The choice of the boy was affected by the example of his parents who arrived in Naberezhnye Chelny in order to participate in the construction of the automobile factory KAMAZ. The basics of technical skills were imparted by Igor’s father, who was an engineer. Surprisingly Devyatkin Jr. managed to combine study in the music school with the work in the studio, where he constructed motorcycles, and then water-jet-powered boats. A young athlete is fascinated by the result oriented atmosphere and atmosphere of creation reigning in the KAMAZ-master Team. “You feel part of a single powerful mechanism, and where the overall success of the team depends on your efforts too “, - Igor Devyatkin says.

ilgizar MardeevPilot
After his army service Ilgizar Mardeev was hired by the KAMAZ engine plant where he started as a blacksmith and finally became a motor testing en-gineer. Ilgizar states that he took interest in vehicle testing and racing in his childhood as he acciden-tally saw a stuntman drive a car in a spiral on TV. In 1986 Ilgizar shifted to the KAMAZ research and development centre, where he created buggies and participated in nationwide buggy competitions and European Cup buggy race as a mechanic. In 1992 he became a constant participant of international ral-lies as an assistance vehicle driver. In 1997 Ilgizar tried the role of co-pilot in a sports crew and he became a pilot in 2002.
His son Ayrat Mardeev has followed his father’s choice; he is an active carting racer and a pilot-mechanic of the KAMAZ-master Team.

He began working for KAMAZ Inc. in 1999 after the graduation. Starting as a master, later he be-came a department manager. The duties of his works department included the production of components for the sports trucks of the KAMAZ-master Team. Viatcheslav says that he liked to work with the mem-bers of the sports team and found their occupation very exciting.
That’s why in 2005 Mizyukaev accepted the invi-tation to join the team without hesitating. One year later he took part in a race as a mechanic for the first time, participating in the stage of the Russian Cham-pionship called «Khazarskie Stepi». In 2007 he also made his debut as co-pilot at the same race. How-ever, a real breakthrough and his first victory was his participation and first prize at the rally raid «Astana Challenge – Silk Road Rally 2007» , where he took part together with the mechanic Eduard Nikolaev in the crew of Vladimir Chagin, the five-times Dakar winner. In 2009 V. Mizyukaev took fourth place at the Dakar Rally as a member of I. Mardeev’s crew and fourth place at the SILK WAY RALLY Dakar Series as a member of E. Nikolaev’s crew. During the Silk Way Rally 2010 the crew of Eduard Nikolaev went ahead of their famous competitors owing to Mizyukaev’s flawless performance as co-pilot. The result was their triumphant victory in Sochi!

Dmitry sotnikovMechanic
Dmitry Sotnikov was 9 years old when his father the famous sports judge brought him to the section of carting. Father and son didn’t miss a single televi-sion broadcast of Formula 1 and WRC. Trajectory of cracking, acceleration and braking, nothing escaped these enthusiastic fans attention. Theory was useful in practice; the result was a prize-winning place of young athlete in Russian Carting Competitions. At the age of 15 Dmitry Sotnikov was invited to the junior team of the factory participating in circle races. Dmitry is sure that motorsport develops re-action, quick thinking, makes a man purposeful. He continues to improve his skills in the category Auto. In 2010 Dmitry Sotnikov became the winner of the Russian Championship in a buggy.

From 1st to 15th January, the drivers and the teams of the Dakar will compete against each other on a diagonal line which will go through South America, linking Mar del Plata, in Argentina, to Lima in Peru, passing through Chile and in particular Copiapó, where the rest day will take place. Apart from this break in the heart of the Atacama Desert, the participants will be competing every day. There will be 14 exceptionally sporting stages to complete.
