Hours of the Ottoman Empire

The Ottoman Empire 1672-1699

In this territory the Turks formed the administration system “eyalet” (or pashalik) peculiar to the Ottoman Empire and appointed “the beylerbey”(the governor). Kamianets eyalet consisted of four sandzaks: Kamyanets, Yazlovets, Bar and Medzhybizh . Each sanzak was divided into 3-8 smaller units- nahiy (19 nahiyz in total). The first vicegerent was Galil Pasha (1672 - 1675 and 1677-1680).

Kamenets eyalet belonged to the smallest provinces of the Ottoman Empire. Turkey administration failed to implement the classical division intohide lands for the military servants here. Due to the fact that there was hardly any Muslim population, apart from the soldiers of the garrisons, theIslamic court system was not created in Podillya. Conflicts between Muslims were solved by only one qadi (the judge) in Kamianets -Podilsky.
