  • The Wichita Center for the Arts is pleased to sponsor the Kansas Watercolor Society Nati onal Exhibiti on 2012. This year we recognize and celebrate the KWS 43rd Anniversary.

    The KWS Nati onal Exhibiti on features the art disciplines we teach and support here at the Center and therefore allows our members, students and community at large to view the directi on of water media nati onally.

    This year, the juror Donald Lake selected 87 painti ngs out of 432 submitt ed. The diverse range of subject matt er and styles in this collecti on of work will make this an exhibiti on you will not want to miss!

  • Donald Lake, WHS, spent 38 years as a professor of painti ng specializing in drawing and watercolor. He has taught plein air watercolor workshops in locati ons around the country. Best known for his industrial imagery, he also has a long history of painti ng the prairie and western landscape. His work has been widely exhibited and is included in hundreds of private collecti ons, and in such collecti ons as Springfi eld Art Museum, Illinois State Museum, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and many university and college collecti ons. Lake’s work has been chosen for the State Department Art in the Embassies program and has been exhibited in museums in France and Taiwan. He is represented by Cinema Gallery, Urbana, Illinois. He has been featured in American Arti st magazine and New American Painti ngs. He has juried several regional and nati onal exhibits.
