student enrollment scheduled for September 2017) Application Deadline: May 20, 2016
THE SCHOOL Katameya Royals International School (KRIS) is a new and unique PreK‐12 private school housed in a new compound outside of Cairo in a rapidly developing area called “New Cairo”. The school will open in September 2017 with Pre‐Kindergarten through Grade 5 with a Head of School and assistant. Gradually the school will develop into a PreK‐Grade 12 school with principals for the Lower and Upper Schools. KRIS is a proprietary school owned by the North Africa for Real Estate group, and managed by International Schools Services (headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey USA). The school is presently under construction in what will be a modern, and beautiful educational facility located in New Cairo, Egypt, on the same site as a housing complex and a hospital. This brand new campus is scheduled to open in September 2017, with students in grades Pre‐K through Grade 5, then add a grade level per year thereafter. The total enrollment is foreseen to be 1,400 students. The school will offer a K‐12 program based upon US standards and benchmarks through grade 10, and the IB/AP Capstone Program in grades 11 and 12. Incorporated will be a strong Arabic program taught using methodology and materials based on the World Language Initiative developed by International Schools Services (ISS). Upon completion, the school will be a modern, purpose‐built campus including:
Early childhood section for Pre‐K and Kindergarten Elementary school for Grades 1‐5 Upper school for Grades 6‐12 A gymnasium, swimming pools, cafeteria, a well‐equipped
and state‐of‐the‐art library, art, science, and music classrooms, and exciting play spaces
PHILOSOPHY Katameya Royals International School takes a whole‐child and bi‐lingual approach to elementary education. Teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff work together to meet the intellectual, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of each and every child we serve.
VISION Global citizens collaborating to create a better world. MISSION Katameya Royals International School (KRIS) educates students to be bi‐lingual, self‐reliant problem solvers with a global perspective and identity, and to possess a solid academic foundation, a sense of self‐worth, and a strong set of core values and ethics.
BI‐LINGUAL STUDENTS One of the issues often faced by host country students in international schools is a decrease in ability in their mother tongue and pride in their home culture. As a result of this, particularly in the Arabic Language, International Schools Services initiated and supported the World Language Initiative (WLI). By creating materials and using methodologies similar to high quality whole‐language based language arts programs in US and international schools, WLI sought to change the way home country language is often taught in international schools. A major goal of KRIS is to educate students to be bi‐lingual and to enjoy learning in both English and Arabic.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: FOUNDING HEAD OF SCHOOL
ISS is proud to be assisting KRIS with their search for a Founding Head of School. It will open in August 2017 for its first academic year in a purpose‐built facility. KRIS will be managed by International Schools Services, the Princeton‐based leader in international education management and service. Initially Katameya Royals International School will primarily serve host country students from age four at the Early Childhood Center through Grade 5. Subsequent years will see the school grow to a K‐12 school serving over 1,400 students. The school will seek US accreditation PreK‐12, and International Baccalaureate approval for the Diploma Program. The focus will be on integrated curriculum and inquiry based learning to develop the intellectual, emotional and physical potential of each student. The main language of instruction will be English, but Arabic will be taught using methodologies similar to language arts practices in English.
