www.warwick.ac.uk Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing in support of Jessamy Baudains’ application for the United Nations internship. Jessamy is an enthusiastic and valuable member of my seminar in the module English 122: Modes of Reading in the Department of English & Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. Consistently in the seminar, Jessamy demonstrates confidence and intellectual curiosity in exploring complex theoretical texts. Her seminar presentation was very helpful for other students—she ably demonstrated how to apply feminist theory to popular music which provided a theoretical framework on which the other students could then do a reading of our key literary text. Jessamy is developing not only skills in various modes of reading literary texts, but she is also adept at finding theory’s wider social applications. I have read two samples of Jessamy’s work in which she has done insightful readings that carefully consider the text. She is eager to learn and has carefully considered my feedback—for instance, the clarity of her writing style was much improved from the first to the second essay. She is particularly skilful at opening and closing an argument, thereby demonstrating strengths in articulating a comprehensive perspective on a topic.
