Technical Data

The Band-pass Filter is used when severalfrequencies are to be attenuated outside anarrow passband. It is particularly suitable for laboratory test pur-poses, because of its ease of tuning.

It can be used:– to improve the input selectivity of receivers

and amplifiers,– to increase the isolation of transmitters

whose respective antennas are mountedclose together,

– to suppress noise sidebands and inter-modulation products,

– as a combiner component.

Design and construction:The Band-pass Filter consists of capacitivelyshortened λ/4 coaxial resonators. The reso-nators of the multicavity band-pass filter areinterconnected by cables of λ/4 length. The pass band frequency and the insertion lossare tunable.

Filter characteristics:Narrow pass band with low insertion loss, highstop-band attenuation. Variable filter curves arepossible in order to meet the desired stop-bandattenuation.

Tuning:The Band-pass Filter is tuned to the desiredpassband frequency and insertion loss at thefactory. Please specify desired pass bandfrequency and insertion loss (curve A, B, C)when ordering.

The Band-pass Filter can also be tuned on sitefollowing the instructions provided.

Band-stop Filter890 … 960 MHz

Technical Data

The Band-stop Filter is used when individualfrequencies are to be attenuated. It is particularly suitable for laboratory test pur-poses, because of its ease of tuning.

It can be used:– to attenuate interfering signals,– to increase the isolation between a transmit-

ter and a receiver,– to suppress intermodulation products.

Design and construction:The Band-stop Filter consists of capacitivelyshortened λ/4 coaxial resonators. The reso-nators of the multicavity band-stop filter areinterconnected by cables of λ/4 length. The stop band frequency and the stop bandattenuation are tunable.

Filter characteristics:Narrow stop band with high stop band attenua-tion, low insertion loss outside the stop bandrange.

Tuning:The Band-stop Filter is tuned to the desiredstop band frequency and stop band attenuationat the factory. When ordering please specify stop band fre-quency and stop band attenuation.

The Band-stop Filter can also be tuned on sitefollowing the instructions provided.

The resonators of the 2-cavity or 3-cavity Band-stop Filters can be tuned independently. In thisway, 2 or 3 different interfering signals can besuppressed or one single interfering signal canbe especially attenuated.

Type No. 791 600 792 078

Technical Data

The hybrid transmitter combiner allows two to four trans-mitters to be combined to a common antenna output.

Special features:– very narrow spacing of the transmitting frequencies,

down to adjacent channel spacing (3 dB/6 dB loss dueto design principle)

– very high isolation between Tx inputs due to built-incirculators

– easy frequency changing as no tuning is required– low space requirement due to compact design

Design and construction:The hybrid transmitter combiner uses hybrid ring junc-tions to combine the transmitters. Each transmitting pathincorporates a wide-band dual circulator with integratedabsorbers. The absorbers are dimensioned for a totalreflection possibly occurring at the output. The dissipa-tion power is fed to the surroundings via the ribbedhousing.

Customized versions:– with a single circulator instead of dual circulator, if

lower isolation between the Tx inputs is sufficient– with a band-pass filter at the output– with power monitoring feature– for higher power

Hybrid Transmitter Combiner1805 – 1880 MHz

The hybrid transmitter combiner allowsseveral transmitters to be combined toa common antenna output.

Special versions:– high power hybrid combiner de-

signed for cellular network base stations, more specifically for thePCN/DCS project

– very narrow spacing of the trans-mitting frequencies, down to adjacentchannel spacing

– variable transmitter frequencies

Design and construction:The hybrid transmitter combiner hasthree inputs and one output. For combi-ning transmitters one 3 dB coupler andone 4.7 dB coupler are used as hybrid. In each transmitting path a wide-banddual circulator is inserted, which cau-ses very high isolation. This effectivelysuppresses intermodulation products. The absorbers are dimensioned for apossible total reflection occurring at theoutput. The combiner also includes a bandpass filter at the output.

The 3-dB coupler can be used:– as a decoupled power splitter with a ratio of 1:1,– for the decoupled combining of two trans-

mitters with frequency spacing as narrow asdesired (at 3 dB loss),

– for the decoupled combining of two receiverswith frequency spacing as narrow as desired,

– for the decoupled combining of two trans-mitter/receiver units, whose integratedduplexers are within the same frequencyrange,

– as a frequency-independent 90° phase shifter,– as a component to form combiners.

Function:The 3-dB coupler has four ports, two of which are decoupled from each other. For exampleeffective power entering into port 1 is distributedinto ports 2 and 3. Port 4 is decoupled andwithout power if ports 2 and 3 are ideallymatched. In practice an absorber of suitablepower at port 4 is to be planned in accordancewith the mismatch of ports 2 and 3. Decoupled combining can be achieved via thediagonally opposite ports 2 and 3 or 1 and 4. 1↔ 3

3-dB Coupler with Cable Absorber806 – 960 MHz

The 3-dB Coupler with Cable Absorber isdesigned to combine two BTS (Base Trans-ceiver Stations) onto one antenna in orderto save feeder cable and antenna costs.

• Contrary to standard absorbers, the here-by implemented cable absorber providesexcellent intermodulation performance

• The frequency spacing between transmit-ter signals can be as small as required

• DC signals at Tx1 port are passed to an-tenna port

• DC signals at Tx2 port are short-circuited

• Suitable for indoor applications

Note:

The 3-dB Coupler with Cable Absorber is designed fora max. input power of 150 W per input (in total 300 W). Wall-mounting of the device is recommended with thecooling ribs running in a vertical direction (see photo) inorder to dissipate the max. heat power of 150 W andnot to over-heat the unit.

When installed in a 19˝ rack, it must be ensured thatthe max. heat power of 150 W is sufficiently dissipated,so that the ambient temperature does not rise above+50 °C. This can be achieved for example by the addi-tional installation of a correspondingly dimensionedventilator in the 19˝ rack or by reducing the maximuminput power.

The max. connector coupling torque of 25 Nm is not tobe exceeded.

Decoupled Power Splitter806 – 960 MHz

The decoupled power splitter can be used:– for power distribution, e. g. from one common

antenna to several receivers with frequencyspacing as narrow as desired,

– for power distribution, for example: from onetransmitter to several outputs,

– for decoupled combining of several transmitterswith frequency spacing as narrow as desired (at 4.7 dB or 6 dB loss),

– for decoupled combining of several transmitting/receiving units, whose integrated duplexers arewithin the same frequency range.

Function:The decoupled 3:1 power splitter has 3 inputs, oneoutput, and 3 absorber ports. The decoupled 4:1power splitter has 4 inputs, one output, and 4absorber ports. The inputs are only decoupled if theabsorber ports are terminated with 50 Ω loads ofsuitable power.

Dimensioning the external absorbers:The absorbers of the 3:1 power splitter must bedimensioned so that at least 2/3 of the power fedinto the inputs can be absorbed.Example: If a power of 50 W is fed into every input, then the absorbers must be able to absorb 33 Weach.

The absorbers of the 4:1 power splitter must bedimensioned so that at least 3/4 of the power fedinto the inputs can be absorbed.Example: If a power of 50 W is fed into every input, then the absorbers must be able to absorb 37 Weach.

Load50 Ω

50-Ω loads are suited as absorbers for small and medium power.

They are used:– as termination for transmitters or amplifiers used for testing, measuring or tuning,– as termination for circulators, directional couplers, hybrid ring junctions and decou-

pled power splitters.– Application: Indoor

Special features of the loads are:– very low VSWR within a wide frequency range,– high stability and RF shielding due to the closed aluminium construction,– arbitrary installation position because of convectional cooling,– 50 W and 100 W models can be installed on front or rear panels of electrical equip-

ment for heat dissipation.
