Adornment:
Adornment involved us look ing at the human body and exper imenting with s i lhouette. the s i lhouette could reveal our own personal ideals and phi losophy. The f inal objec t had to be f i t ted to our own bodies and model led on the UJ campus. M y concept fo l lowed a process of explor ing my physical ex tremit ies to create an objec t that would map my “hor izons.” the process sought to explore limitation of movment as a trace of our physiological se l f.

conceptkeeping context as the main reference point, this site brought about the idea of collision and intersection (of ages, culture, various income groups discovered in our mapping)this building frames an important crossing of paths in an attempt to cross the axis of movement and shape a point of meeting across a street, sugggesting an edge of transition

Affected by the drastic socio-political andeconomic circumstances in this country
and other African countries;orphaned children in Hillbrow find themselves
as victims of volitility and breadwinners to thier siblings.
Children fighting poverty and diseasebecome responsible at young ages anddesperate. Added to this, abandonment
issues arise out of the various scenariosthat have left them alone at childhood.
Studies on abandoned children haveshown that they become souces of
abandonment to thier children. Even ifthey break free of the socio-political
issues in thier immediate environment, the psycological abandonment and attatchment
issues are just as much of aobstacle to live.
My proposal is that we abandon the cycle ofabandonment by allowing children to develop
in a diverse verticle city, wherespace sharing, zoning and playing canexist in the common voids and passive
pockets of space.
