    9. Objectives:

    To familiarize the students to more daily conversational themes.

    To give exposure to more vocabulary with emphasis on both pronunciation and enunciation.

    To expose simple reading texts in Mandarin language.

    To study grammar and the structure of basic sentences.

    10. Learning Outcomes:At the end of the course the students should be able to:

    Communicate ideas effectively at basic level eith the community at large.

    Acquire basic listening skill.

    Read and comprehend simple texts.

    Write simple sentences, texts and dialogues at basic level individually and in group.

    12. Teaching-learning strategyStudents will be taught through lectures, discussions, role-plays, language games and other enrichmentactivities. Audio and video tapes and computers will also be used.

    Assessment strategy:Oral communication contributes the most as this course focuses on the communicative ability i.e. correctpronunciation, accurate phonetic sounds etc. other skills like reading and listening are assessed toevaluate the learners language proficiency. In addition, quizzes will also be given to students throughout

    the semester to test on their individual understanding.

    13. SynopsisThis course is designed for non-native speakers of Mandarin Chinese to grasp the important componentsof the language as their third language. This will be done by communicative approach through thelearning of language structures, functions and related cultural knowledge. In a wider scope, this course isto enable the learners to communicate better with the Chinese in the Malaysian community.
