Course & Match News You may have noticed the lateral hazard pegs along the left of the second fairway have recently been moved in to the fairway side of the hazard. Go to Golflink.com.au for an explanation of rule 26-1b and the options available from the hazard – there’s a short video explanation too.

The left hand bunker on 17 has been resurfaced along with the bunker on the first, which also has a new greenside entrance. The rear of the bunker has been roped off to prevent traffic and preserve a solid back face so that the ball rolls back into the centre of the bunker.

Thank you The new cart sheds are now complete and fully allocated.

Thank you to the following members for assisting with construction of the new sheds:

Keith Loxton Brian Roberts

Paul Freeman Brian Turnbull

Peter Cooper Tony Hughson

Pat Dwyer

RACT Event runners-up, Steve Thomas & Dean Harrison with Brett

Fancy a Bite on Course? Try one of the fabulous wraps now available from the kitchen. You can eat in, or take it out to enjoy during your round. Different fillings available – check with Brendan and Will. Call ahead if you’re cutting it fine with your tee time, and they’ll have it ready for you to go.

Calling Players Through Calling players through – you must call the following players through if they are waiting and your ball is not immediately found. Players may search for their ball for five minutes but waiting players must be called on to play through if it is your turn to play and your ball has not been found.

Players who call through another group should, if convenient, play their next shot and walk forward with the group called through. They must not then resume play until the players called through are out of range.

Thank You Our thanks to Andy Hind and Peter Cooper for replacing the beam and posts in front of the pro shop, and Janne Johns for painting the new work.

Local Rules Remember – each of us is responsible for checking the Local Rules before we tee off – look on the notice board outside the office.

Local rules are more frequent in the winter months!

Fixtures Calendar Monthly fixtures lists for May to July are available from the office or can be downloaded from the News page on the website.

We will continue to progressively publish monthly lists because the website calendar cannot synchronise with our fixtures lists and is too labour intensive to maintain.

Men’s Pennant Division 4 played the final on 24 April at North West Bay but unfortunately came up just short. Congratulations to all who played and represented KBGC during the 2016 pennant roster. Thanks you to captains Matt Glover (Div 1), Morgan McGuire (Div 4), Paul Lowry (Div 6) and David Knowles (Div 9) who did a fantastic job during in organising their respective teams. It is not an easy task and we thank these individuals for putting their hands up for the club.

Lastly to Brett Johns whose advice, support and encouragement for the captains and players in each division is a huge help. Thanks Brett. We plan on arranging a function to celebrate the end of the 2016 season and look forward to success in 2017.

Social Club Action Footy margin tickets are selling well.

If you haven’t already booked your table for the quiz night on 7 May, please do – only a few tables left! If you want to book a platter of nibbles for your table, contact Brendan.

Entertainment Books – the new books and online memberships are available for $65 from the Office now. The club makes $13 from the sale of each Entertainment Book; so if you usually buy one, please get it from us – they make an easy Mothers’ Day gift!

The Committee has been approached about smoking around the clubhouse and cigarette butts being left in sand buckets.

We appreciate this may be a sensitive topic for some, and don’t want to offend anyone. It is however appropriate to remind smokers about Tasmania’s Public Health Act which bans smoking within 20 metres of tees, fairways or greens during any organised competition; and for 30 minutes before and after the competition.

Following discussion, the committee has also identified two new areas to be designated smoking areas:

• the lower carpark, and

• the northern end of the pro shop building.

New signage and receptacles for cigarette butts will be placed there shortly. Please smoke only in these designated areas - smoking is no longer permitted in the barbeque area or any other non-designated area.

For more information, look online for the DHHS Tobacco Control Laws.

Did You Know? Following their Pace of Play Survey, the R&A has responded by establishing a 9-hole tournament for amateurs at Royal Troon in the week prior to the Open Championship. This endorses 9-hole golf as a valid option especially for people with time constraints, and may help reduce declining participation in golf. Read more about it online at Golflink.com.au.

Results & Leaderboard If you use the bookings site, you should now see the leaderboard function has been restored.

Results are also published on the Club’s Facebook page, which also feeds through to our website home page.
