KBOO extends best wishes to Dené Bowles, who is retiring from her program “a Quiet Storm” after 18 years. In addition to produc-ing her regular program, which aired 7-9pm alternate Fridays, she has participated in many special public affairs programs and contrib-uted to KBOO’s International Women’s Day programming. It has been a great pleasure to work with Dené and we will miss her greatly!KBOO wishes to take this moment to give Dené many many thanks for years of volunteer service to the community, and to honor the contriutions that she has made our airwaves.

n e w N E W S D I R E C T O R !Lisa Loving has been hired as KBOO’s new Evening News and Public Affairs Director. A KBOO volunteer, engineer and programmer for over 15 years, Lisa has been involved in countless news and public affairs specials and remotes, in addition to being a writer, print journalist, ace interviewer, and lots of other things. Please extend her a warm welcome!

m a k i n g m e m b e r s H A P P YThanks again to all of the new and renewing KBOO members-owners who made our fall membership drive a success!

We’re currently working to mail hundreds of thank you gifts to our members. If you’d like to help with the process consider picking your gift up at the station (please call before-hand), or get involved and volunteer to help mail gifts out. In just a few hours a week you can help to make members happy. Interested? Please contact: [email protected] or 503/231.8032, ext. 207.

a r e y o u a F E D E R A L E M P L O Y E E ?SUPPORT KBOO THROUGH THE COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN Until December 15th, federal employees are given the opportunity to designate a payroll deduction, cash or check donation to any of over 2,000 charities – including KBOO Community Radio! Donations are distrib-uted the following year, either monthly or quarterly depending upon the amount pledged. For more information ask the CFC Campaign Director at your workplace or visit www.oregon.feb.gov/cfc.htm and follow the link “How to Give” to complete a pledge form. KBOO is listed as charitable organiza-tion number 8114.

T E L L A F R I E N D A B O U T K B O O C A M P A I G NIt’s the time of year when many people think about gathering to celebrate with friends and family. This year, it is more important than ever to give the gift of independent media to those you love. Share something you believe in with someone you care about and get involved in KBOO’s Tell A Friend Campaign! We are working hard to raise the station’s membership level to 7,000 members by January 2006 and we need YOUR help to achieve this goal.

KBOO’s “Tell A Friend Campaign” is a grass roots effort to spread the word about the station. We are asking Staff Members, Volunteers, Board Members, Member-Owners and Listeners to tell friends about the amazing resource we have in local com-munity radio. We need approximately 750 new members to achieve the 7,000 member goal. The station need approximately 75 “Tell A Friend” organizers to each recruit 10 new members before the end of the year.

Do you have friends who are not KBOO members but who value independent media? If you know someone who should know about KBOO, this is your chance to get involved. It’s easy. You can recruit as many friends as you wish. Informational packets for the campaign are available at the sta-tion. Drop by 20 SE 8th Ave. in Portland

and become a campaign leader. If you want to help out but can’t make it to the sta-tion or live outside of the Portland area contact the membership department at [email protected] or 503/231-8032, ext. 207 and we can mail you supplies. Also, be sure to check KBOO’s web site at www.kboo.fm for regular updates on the campaign!

G I V E T H E G I F T O F K B O ODon’t fill corporate pockets with receipts from senseless consumerism this season. Give something meaningful. Touch the hearts and minds of your friends, loved ones and neighbors with diverse music program-ming from around the globe, cutting-edge news and public affairs and the voices of people from your local community.

A gift membership to KBOO supports your ideals as well as your spirit of giving. A regular annual membership is only $40! Low-income memberships are $20 and we are even offering a $10 annual youth mem-bership. A gift membership includes a card sent to the recipient, a KBOO membership card (which offers members many great dis-counts at local businesses) and a year long subscription to KBOO’s monthly Listener’s Guide.
