INFLOW & INFILTRATION (I/I) REDUCTION PROJECT:LITTLE BLUE RIVER BASIN AREA 1CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULED FOR: JANUARY 2020 - MAY 2021KC Water is working to construct important improvements to the wastewater system in your neighborhood. This project will rehabilitate sewer mains, service laterals and manholes in your area to like-new conditions. When complete, the project will improve the capacity of the wastewater collection system and lessen the frequency of sewer overflows into local waterways and the potential for basement backups.

WHAT’S BEING DONE?This project includes the rehabilitation and/or replacement of:
• Approximately 60,712 linear feet of sewer mains
• Approximately 837 service laterals
• Approximately 464 manholes
WHAT’S THE TIMELINE?Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2020 and end in May 2021.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?We appreciate your support and patience as we work to complete this important community project. Customers will be notified in advance of pending disruptions, which may include:
• Large equipment creating noise and dusty conditions• Work taking place in easements• Temporary street and sidewalk closures• Temporary sewer service disruptions
WHO’S DOING THE WORK? KC Water will be assisted by its program manager, Burns & McDonnell; its design professionals, Tetra Tech, Environmental Advisors and Engineers, and DuBois Consultants; and its construction contractor, Havens Construction.
WHAT’S THE CONTRACT AMOUNT? The budget for construction is $8,282,600.
WHAT’S THE “CONSENT DECREE”?In 2010, the City of Kansas City, Missouri entered into a federal Consent Decree with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the volume and frequency of overflows from the City’s sewer system. KC Water’s Smart Sewer program is a multi-decade effort to address this challenge through 2040. The Little Blue River Inflow & Infiltration (I/I) Reduction Area 1 Project is one piece of the Smart Sewer program, and is required by the Consent Decree to be completed by December 31, 2021.
