ACT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!The role of SCCA Administration as it seems to have been perceived bythe present officers is not limited to just conducting the league and other games, every year. It is high time they understand that the role ofCricket Administration goes well beyond their perception. They areresponsible for the game being played in the right spirit by the players, upholding the laws of the game, gentlemanly behavior of the players, and above alkeep this as a Gentlemans game. This is how cricket is known world over - Cricket

as a Gentlemans game and Tennis as a Royal game.

Of late, we see in SCCA league games, more sledging, abuse of umpires, etc., etc. Thisis because the present administration apparently is not handling these issues in anappropriate and timely manner. There is mechanism in place to receive input butno one knows whether there is anybody assigned to review these input and takeaction. In fact, winning clubs do write in their game summary of the incident(s)that took place; the condition of the pitch, etc. This seems to be a one-way trafficand they do not get any feedback. It is high time SCCA Administration reviewsthese input and respond to the clubs.

In the past month, Division-I clubs have mentioned about CSUFs sledging, otherclubs have written about umpiring standards, ground conditions, etc. Here aresome of the writings from the clubs and comments from Weekend Cricket magazine:

Good Luck to CSUF for the rest of the season but remember that talking with mouthwon't help to win games in Division 1. Let your batting and bowling do the talkingAlso, if you guys want to do talking then also learn to be on the receiving end.

Winning Team: Some of the umpire's decisions were highlight of the gameLosing Team: echo IE2 thoughts about the highlight of the game - controversialdecisions

The wicket was really bad. The game should have been called off due to dangerouswicket. There were bumps on the popping crease on both sides. It was bad for thebowler if they had stepped into those bumps could have had injury. Also, it was adust bowl. It seemed like the same wicket was used for the Saturday game and givento play for Sunday game. Totally ridiculous wicket.... Dust was puffing since the 1st

ball of the game was bowled. There was couple of helmet hits and ball jagged up tothe batsmen on the gloves out of the bad patches on the wicket. Good that no one got

injured but there were some ugly hits on the helmet and gloves. Once we thoughtthat we came to play BEACH VOLLEYBALL and not cricket by looking at theStrip....

Good game played on a bad wicket, not fair for both teams. Good luck Victoria forthe rest of the season.

Weekend Crickets comment: One fails to understand why the winning team decidesto condone the un-sportsmanship behavior of the opponents on the field by not

bringing it in writing through this summary to SCCA authorities. CSUF,irrespective of the level of cricket they play, seems to have been known for sledgingand using abusive language directed to the batsmen. In fact, in the previous matchVijayta mentioned about CSUFs sledging but when one looks at the summary, itwas not included. Now, COSMOS, did the same. It was witnessed by the audiencethat at one stage, a batsman or two have to go to the umpire to protest against sucha behavior from CSUF. Surely, they may be a young-side, both in terms of theirplayers ages and their participation in the league, but they should learn to play thegame in the right way. Cricket is known as a GENTLEMANS GAME and let ukeep it that way. Hope SCCA takes appropriate action in this matter.

It is understood that SCCA encourages and supports youth cricket and has allowedyouth to not only play for SCCA Youth team in the league but also allowed them to play for another club in the league. It appears that Youth players can play forother clubs one in each division of the league thus getting more opportunities toplay and improve. This has caused problems in that SCCA Youth team (Division V forfeiting their league games to play for other teams. Their priority should be tofirst play for the Youth Team and then play for other teams when the Youth teamdoes not have a game.

Additionally, most of the times the Youth team score card is incomplete. Theyshould be taught to properly fill out the score card, abide by the rules of the game, etc. Umpires who are paid their fees should ensure that the score cards arecomplete prior to signing off. Hitherto, the incomplete score card has been a problem with the youth team only. But, now it seems to be spreading like contagious disease to other clubs. In a recent match (played on 6.5.11), Division IIIteams score card reflected as follows:Bowling: 5. Bengals 7 0 36 1 5.14 Batting: 8. Bengals b Deepak Yadav 28

Even with the use of modern technology, one hears bickering on lbw decision inInternational cricket. In our game everything is left to the humans and there may

be some differences in opinion. A player is taught to obey the umpires irrespectiveof how good or bad they are. In the past, SCCA had handled disgruntled playersreaction appropriately. Despite these punishments, one still sees some bad-mouthingand gestures by players at the league matches. It is high time one re-visits thefundamentals of playing this game in a gentlemanly manner.

INDIA IN WEST INDIES!By Dr. V.V. Giri

No Gayle Storm. India at West Indies is happy to hear the news that the West Indies Board refused to includeChris Gayle, the most feared batsman in the World today. But I dont think the Indian IPL franchises realizedthat few weeks back. Chris Gayle destroyed the opponents in all the matches he played in IPL-4 except thefinals against CSK. Strangely he went unsold along with Sourav Ganguly in the initial auctions before the RCowner Mallaya picked him for the last part of IPL 4.

So, West Indies minus Gayle is practically zero. This was proved by the second string Indian team in the T20and the three ODIs played so far. The team captained by Sammy is just an average one on par with Zimbabweand other Minnows. The Indian team under the leadership of Suresh Raina, made merry in the 4 matches they

played so far, toying with the opponents. True the Indian team is without the stars - Tendulkar, Yuvi, Sehwag,Gambir, Zaheer and skipper Dhoni. But they have the hungry youngsters who want to get a place in the mainteam.

Raina and Kohli were already in the WC team. But other spots were open. In my opinion, except for RohitSharma, no one else utilized the chances well. Parthiv is an attacking opener, but not an innings builder. He istoo flashy and his keeping is just horrible. His partner Dhawan is not an international material. Number fourBadrinath is not in good form. He is in a state of confusion whether to attack or defend (Effect of too muchT20). I also feel he could be suspect against bouncers when you want him to score of those deliveries.

After Kohli, Raina and Rohit, in the middle order, Yusuf Pathan who comes in that number seven position is a

big disappointment. Ok, he has very little time to settle when sent late, but he has to score at least once in 3innings. You have in the reserves Manoj Tiwary and Vinay who are also not international materials.

Among the bowlers, the most improved or proven bowler for India is Munaf Patel. He is an excellent ODIbowler, who has the best control in India. Praveen Kumar is good but on a slower wicket, he can be thrashed.Kudos - to the selector Srikkanth for sustaining faith in Amit Mishra the leggie and Munaf. It was unfortunatefor Amit to miss the WC that too to an undeserving Chawla. Mishra bowls beautifully and is a much improvedbowler.

Ashwin is an automatic choice and most feared bowler in this version. But the presence of Harbajan isunfortunate for him. I am sure the Vice Captain - Bajji will be careful not to give Ashwin the chance, which

could prove dangerous for him later.

I feel the youngsters and the reserves are not utilizing the God given chances to seal a place in the main team.

    Vintage Cricket Newsletter, June 2011

    From the Office:

Great to get positive responses from people about support for the so-called minnows at the World Cup. In all thecorrespondence received only 2 people felt that they should be excluded and the majority felt that perhaps itshould be only two Associate teams should take part and only after an elimination series to sort out who the twoshould be.

It came as a bit of a surprise to note the ICC had decided to exclude the Associate teams from the next World

Cup and then as a relief to see that the decision is to be reconsidered. Ireland and Netherlands have proven theyare not too far off the pace and hopefully they will be in a position to improve further in 2015.

This month we have a great article from noted cricket columnist, Lynn McConnell as he reflects on a successful(ish) World Cup and a wonderful story of an intriguing group of cricketers from Los Angeles. Their committedand enthusiastic organisers are using the great game to turn lives around.

We note also that the World Vintage Cricket Carnival in Wellington in March 2012 has had a sudden influx ofentries from local teams all looking for a chance to host visiting teams and players to their wonderful city.

Take a look at this newsletter and maybe make a decision to be a part of what is shaping up to be an excellentinternational celebration of the great game of cricket. If you are over 35, love playing the game to the best ofyour ability and enjoy visiting great destinations with a cricketing tradition then just maybe the WellingtonCarnival will suit you and your team.

    SWR YOUTH COORDINATOR RICHARD

BLACKLEDGE HAS BIG PLANS!Posted by jamieumbc in www.usyca.org

Richard Blackledge is the newly elected Youth CricketCoordinator for the South West Region of USACA. Thisweek, he spoke with USYCA about youth cricket in Americaand in his region.

USYCA: Richard, thanks for taking a few moments to speak

with us today, and to talk about youth cricket. What was it thatgot you involved in youth cricket?

Blackledge: I was fortunate enough to learn my cricket fromsome of the greatest coaches you could wish for. I was bornand raised in Yorkshire, England into a cricketing family. Iwas coached as a youth by the likes of Tony Bowes, son of Bill Bowes of Bodyline fame, Chris Old, theEngland pace bowler and the coaching staff at Yorkshire CCC and Derbyshire CCC. I was also a participant ina program run by Olympic coach Wilf Paish who used his coaching skills for Olympic athletes, specificallyjavelin throwers, to help develop pace bowlers.

I was in line for a county contract but a series of injuries put me out of the game for a couple of seasons. Irecovered from the injuries to play professionally in the northern leagues of England which is where I startedcoaching youth cricketers. Ive been involved in coaching cricket ever since, most recently with a very talentedbunch of young cricketers from the SCCA.

USYCA: Why did you decide to seek election as the SWR Youth Cricket Coordinator?

Blackledge: I was asked to step up by the president of my cricket association, Masud Zaidi. I thought long andhard because I knew if I took the position it would mean dedicating a lot of time and energy and Im not acricket politician or administrator, Im a cricket player.

It was really coaching the youth players of the SCCA that helped me decide. They dont have the opportunitiesthat they deserve. I took it for granted that I had access to well-maintained cricket facilities, turf pitches andgood coaches and that there were well-organized youth developments programs with an opportunity to turnprofessional for a select few. These guys dont have those opportunities and they should. I feel the knowledgeand experience Ive gained can be put to good use here.

USYCA: In your opinion, why is youth cricket development critical to the future of cricket in America?

Blackledge: If the 45 years of USACA operations has proven anything, it is that the game of cricket cannotflourish here in the US whilst relying on ex-pat players and administrators.

    9/24

Cricket in America is stalled. We are in a relatively golden period because of the number of ex-pat workers

from cricket playing nations who have found jobs in the US but if you look at the profile of these people youfind they are recreational cricketers with few being serious about developing their talents or the reach of thegame in the US. Many of them will return to their home country to have a family.

This means we dont get the influx of young cricketers we need to grow. At present, interest in cricket in the USis directly proportional to the number of ex-pats living here. In 45 years there has never been a concerted effortto bring the game to an audience who can sustain and grow it.

When test teams have a slump in form you find their administration, and even in some cases their government, will launch a grassroots campaign they encourage more kids to play cricket. Any businessperson will tellyou, you need to market to a relatively large audience to get enough orders to grow your business it is the

    same with cricket.

We need tens of thousands, even millions of kids playing cricket so that we can have thousands of adults andhundreds of professionals and one very good national team. Everything else will develop naturally around thisparticipation; the coaches and facilities, spectators and fans, the merchandise and sponsorship, the mediacoverage and advertising dollars.

There are an estimated 41 million children in the US playing organized, competitive sports. Their parents spendon average $2000 per year to pay club dues, for professional coaching and for sports equipment. Those whotravel spend an additional $2000 $4000 per year. Everyone talks about the American market in relation tocricket but Im not sure how many of these people realize this market is driven by youth participation.

USYCA: Why do you think that, in past years, youth cricket was more of an afterthought for many in the US

    cricket community? What has changed?

Blackledge: To be honest Im not sure we have done enough yet to say it has changed. There are definitely afew good people working very hard to maintain and expand youth cricket in the US but it is far too few peopleand with nowhere near enough resources. The USYCA program is by far the best initiative I have seen todevelop the game out here; it is easy to implement, inexpensive and it works but there has to be much moredone by the stakeholders.

In my opinion, youth cricket has been an afterthought for a couple of reasons; one is there are relatively few

youth cricketers. In our region, the South West Region, we have one of the highest concentrations of cricketplayers in the country, we have five recognized USACA cricket associations and thousands of registered playersbut we struggle to find enough youth players to put just one team together in each of the age groups. A lot ofguys come here in their 20s and leave in their 30s. They dont settle and have kids.

Another reason is I do not think that the true value of the youth players has been recognized. If you look at howthe ICC assigns grants to cricket nations you will see that the ranking of the national senior side is given 40%importance and the number of juniors playing cricket is given 10% importance. You can get a lot more moneyfrom the ICC by doing well at the senior level than you can by having plenty of youth teams.

USYCA: What challenges do you see for youth cricket in the South West Region?

  • 8/6/2019 KCW Jun 15 2011 - Issue 26

    10/24

Blackledge: There are a number of challenges, not least the fact that our region is 800 miles long and 800 miles

wide and also includes the Hawaiian islands. Its a large area to cover which means high travel costs to bringplayers together.

We also have to bridge a gap. The USYCA Schools Program is ideal as an initial introduction to cricket for ourregions youth. We need volunteers lots of volunteers to help us promote it. Then we need to take these kidswho have caught the cricket bug and be able to take them to the next level with various out-of-school programsThere is a real lack of cricket facilities, equipment and trained coaches and a lack of funding to be able toprovide for any.

USYCA: What opportunities, both short and long term, do you see?

Blackledge: The challenges create the opportunities. Long term, the more people we can get playing cricket themore money for development will flow in to the game. A percentage of the youth we are able to reach will wantto continue to develop their cricketing skills and play competitively. All we have to do is reach enough of themand provide a route. They will be the ones who buy the cricket equipment and insist on facilities to practice at.They will pay their annual dues to their clubs which will strengthen the leagues and the region. It is a ten-yearplan.

Short term, I am hoping the current national administration will see the importance of developing andpromoting youth cricket and will dedicate a percentage of the funding money they have assured us will bearriving shortly. I also have faith in the South West Regions new administration. We have a unique blend ofexperienced administrators and visionary individuals that all share a passion for the development of youth

    cricket.

USYCA: Richard, could you share the details of your comprehensive youth cricket development plan for the

South West Region and the rationale behind each of your key objectives in this program?

Blackledge: In essence it is a very simple plan. Engaged youth + quality coaches + facilities = successfulprogram.

For the school kids reach as many as resources will allow. Introduce them to cricket. Make it easy for them tojoin an out of school program with a trained coach then get them into a team and the team into a tournamentwhere they can compete. The coaches need to be qualified, so a coach training program is essential, and the

coaches need to be paid for their time and expenses. For the youth who are already involved in cricket, we needto increase their access to qualified coaches and reasonable training facilities so they can hopefully progress torepresenting our region and the national team, as some have already done.

USYCA: Have you established a timeline for achieving certain benchmarks within the program?

Blackledge: Ive started an outreach campaign to see how many genuinely engaged people we have to call on.I would like to see the schools program begin immediately and work towards hosting a small youth festival orfestivals as soon as we are able. Ive been in touch with a number of people to help decide when the best timingwould be to host these youth festivals given the school year. I would definitely expect this to happen within thenext 12 months. I have outlined a coach training program which needs authorization from the ICC through

  • 8/6/2019 KCW Jun 15 2011 - Issue 26

    11/24

USACA. The budget for formulating and marketing the coach training program will need to be approved by theSouth West Region board and funds acquired.

I am aiming to have the business plan for this drawn up by mid-summer so we can get started with the programin time for the 2012 season.

USYCA: Richard, some teams or leagues will happily participate because they share your vision. But how do

you reach out to those in the SWR that dont see youth cricket development as their concern?

Blackledge: There has been a culture of administrators dictating their goals to leagues and clubs. This hasntworked.

I am in a very fortunate position as the South West Region Youth Coordinator in that every one of the five

cricket associations in our region recognizes the importance of youth cricket development and has some sort ofa youth program running, many of them just need additional support to help them grow. My goal is that wereach individuals at club level to help feed the league programs and the regional initiatives. There are going tobe some clubs who dont have anyone who is willing to help with youth development. I think its important tostay in touch with these clubs through the leagues so they always have the opportunity to start their ownprogram when they feel the time is right.

As the youth players grow they will strengthen the clubs that have been part of their development.

USYCA: Programs such as this cost money. What financial

and material support will you need to accomplish your

objectives and from where do you hope to receive thissupport?

Blackledge: I am aiming to make each aspect of the youthdevelopment plan self sustaining. Where initial investment isrequired we will be looking to sponsors and to cricketstakeholders who will benefit from the work we do. The newlyelected chairman of the South West Region, Kelly Dunagan, isworking on a marketing and outreach program that will benefitthe whole region and in doing so the youth program. There arealso some monies available in the form of grants from

USACA and ICC for youth development.

USYCA: Who are some of the key individuals with whom youll be partnering to implement the program?

Blackledge: The response so far has been very positive.

There are a long list of cricket administrators, parents, qualified coaches and school officers from the regionwho have already expressed their willingness to get involved. I see a beneficial future in our association withUSYCA. Former England Test bowler Simon Jones has expressed an interest in helping develop youth cricketin the South West Region and Gareth Batty of Surrey and England, whose father George was one of my coaches

as a young man, has been very helpful in making introductions to a couple of well-respected cricketdevelopment officers who work with the county sides in England.

USYCA: Richard, lets look into the future for a moment. Five years from now, what do you expect the situation

to be in regard to youth cricket in the South West Region?

Blackledge: Within five years I would like to see each district within our region represented at U13, U15 andU19. It is a huge undertaking but one that I believe is very achievable with the right people involved.

WEEKEND OF JUNE 4 AND 5:

    CARIBBEAN BEAT HOLLYWOOD-1

    OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

    BY WICKET-KEEPER ANKIT PARMAR

HCC-1 won the toss and sent in Caribbean to bat first. Batting first, Caribbean wasall out for 238 runs. Thanks to some fine batting from their opener Sagar Plant 91,Muhammed Ali 43 and Muhammad Asad 24. It was unfortunate for Sagar Plant tomiss his century by only 9 runs. Good luck in the next game. HCC-1 conceded 29extras (wides 17). Piyush Agram, Rishabh Nanda and Nikhil Iyer bowled well forHCC-1 and 2 wickets apiece. Ever since Ritesh Kadu, their USA wicket-keeper/batsman got injured, Ankhit Parmar has been asked to keep the wickets forHCC-1. Ankit Parmar is a stop-gap wicket-keeper but did a wonderful job for theClub when he was responsible for 5 victims in this match. His outstandingperformance in this match helped HCC-1 to restrict Caribbeans to a total of 238 runs.

In reply, Hollywood-1 was all out for 183. They lost wickets at regular intervals. Their top order batted welbut the middle order and the tail enders failed miserably. Even the top order batsmen shot selection left much tobe desired. Tilhan Indrasena 42, Krish Goel 38 and Anantaram Kota 35 batted well but failed to carry throughHCC-1 are not only, missing Aditya Thyagaran and Ritesh Kadu, their USA players but are unable to field thesame XI in each match.

Caribbeans conceded 32 extras (Wides 28). As usual, Marcus Stewart bowled extremely well for Caribbean forhis 4 or 26. At the end of the day, this is what HCC-1 said:

Hollywood needs to come back strong. Top order batted well but didn't have middle order to stick around. Some

poor fielding display cost 30 extra runs. Thilan, Ananth, & Krish Goel batted really well. Good bowling

performance from Sujesh Pulikkal & Piyush Agram.

Caribbean top order batted well. Sagar played well. Good bowling by Marcus Stewart that got them back into

    the game.

Wicket was prepared well. This was the best wicket we have played so far in this season. Hats off to

    groundsman.

Good Luck to Caribbean for future games.

    COSMOS BEAT CSUF

CSUF won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a good start from their openers who posted 54 runs inabout 8 overs. Thanks to some fine batting from their openers Rohit Yadav 41 and Adheesh Bhate 26Introduction of spin caused problems for CSUF and wickets started falling regularly. Then walked in theyoungster, Siddhanth Dhume who showed maturity beyond his age and played a polished innings for his 45 noout. He was ably supported by Rishi Desai 25 not out. These two helped the team put up a moderate total of211 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted overs. Cosmos conceded 44 extras (wides 36) which do not go welwith the team. Obviously lack of practice by those who played in this game accounted for this. Cosmos shouldpractice regularly if they want to win the championship. Inder Bir Singh was the only successful bowler withhis 2 for 17.

In reply, Cosmos scored 212 for the loss of 6 wickets. Ali Shafi played a captains knock for his 60 runs

Randeep Singh Scored 53. At one stage, when the score was 190 for 6 Cosmos had some anxious momentsBut M.U. Shani Rehman used the long handle very well during the batting power play to remain not out with awell scored and timely 27 runs. CSUF conceded 27 extras (wides 24). Muhammad Sadiq 3 for 47 and RishiDesai 2 for 32 bowled well for CSUF.

At the end of the day, this is what Cosmos said:

CSUF won the toss on an overcast morning and elected to bat. With both teams missing key players, it was

always going to be a closely fought contest. Rohit Yadav took Cosmos by surprise and started with an

entertaining 41 out of the first 54 runs. But the Introduction of Spin brought about his downfall. After the fall of

the first wicket, CSUF could not put together any partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals as the

Cosmos bowling and ground fielding picked up its intensity. The bowlers started to hit their lengths withregularity as the runs also dried up. It was left to Sid Dhume 45* and Rishi Desai 27* to take use of the batting

powerplay and most a final total of 211. Sid showed maturity and played a good knock. Cosmos did well in

restricting CSUF to only 211, where at one time at 50-0 in 7 overs it looked like CSUF would get 300. Cosmos

    gave up 44 extras.

Once the Chase began after lunch, Amar and fazal started well, but the swinging overcast conditions were

always going to favor the medium pacers and swing bowlers of CSUF and cosmos lost 3 quick wickets and were

struggling at 40-3 after 14 overs. This brought together Ali Shafi and Randeep Singh who put together a 103

run partnership in 17 odd overs. The pair batted risk free, and took full advantage of any loose deliveries.

However, CSUF fought till the end and managed to remove the pair and also Inder Singh reducing cosmos to

190-6 but Shani Usman Rehman played a Cameo and ended up with 27 off 15-20 odd balls. Shani took fuladvantage of the power play and finished the game off with 5 overs to spare.

In the end a hard fought game under overcast conditions. CSUF are a young upcoming team and should do well

with experience and playing regularly in woodley. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Man of the match: Ali Shafi & Randeep Singh.

One fails to understand why the winning team decides to condone the un-sportsmanship behavior of the

opponents on the field by not bringing it in writing through this summary to SCCA authorities.

CSUF, irrespective of the level of cricket they play, seems to have been known for sledging and using

abusive language directed to the batsmen. In fact, in the previous match Vijayta mentioned aboutCSUFs sledging but when one looks at the summary, it was not included. Now, COSMOS, did the same

It was witnessed by the audience that at one stage, a batsman or two have to go to the umpire to protest

against such a behavior from CSUF. Surely, they may be a young-side, both in terms of their players

ages and their participation in the league, but they should learn to play the game in the right way

Cricket is known as a GENTLEMANS GAME and let us keep it that way. Hope SCCA takes

    appropriate action in this matter.

    PUKAR PATELS 5 FOR 34

HELPSVIJAYTA BEAT PEGASUS BY 79 RUNS

Vijayta won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first Vijayta scored 264 for the loss of 7 wickets in theallotted overs. Tarun Bhoomi Reddy 37, Ravi Timbawala 24, Mehul Dave 56, Timil Patel 49 and Rushit Pate46 not out batted well for Vijayta. Pegasus conceded 33 extras (wides 29). Elmore Hutchinson 2 for 63 andMustajab (Mushi) Khan 2 for 32 were the successful bowlers for Pegasus.

In reply, Pegasus was all out for 185. Thanks to a fine piece of bowling by Pukar Patel 5 for 34 that restrictedPegasus to 185 runs. He was ably assisted by Anand Panchal 2 for 22. Vijayta conceded 13 extras (wides 10).

At the end of the game, this is what Vijayta said:Vijayta vs. Pegasus - featured 2 Division leading batsman against 2 Division leading wicket takers

Ravi Timbawala vs Zeeshan Kamasani and Elmore Hutchinson vs Timil Patel.

Vijayta won the toss and put their pads against the Speedy Elmore. But, Tarun had other ideas as he knocked

the leather around for a blazing 37 in 20 balls. Skipper Nazim changed bowlers to unsettle Tarun and finally

Tarun fell at the score of 46 in the 6 over. At 51 for 2, Captain Dave, played a solid knock to score 56 along

with Timbawala, who had a very quiet 24. Pegasus was in the hunt restricting Vijayta to 156/5 at around the

30th over. The in-form batsman Timil (49) and blaster Rushit (46 n.o.) started to put on a clinical batting

display to post a commanding total of 264 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Pegasus lost Haider very early but Nazim and Salman hung around till the 10th over and the batting started tocollapse with the introduction of spin as Nazim was caught brilliantly at short square by Rushit to a full length

diving catch inches of the ground and that turned the tables. The lower middle order tried to make a game out

of it with some brilliant batting by Arman (41), Shayan (22) and Ibrahim (37 n.o.). The total was quite daunting

If only the top order applied themselves and with some luck, the ending might have been different.

The most under rated leg spinner Pukar Patel grabbed 5 precious wickets, but the unsung hero of the match by

far was Rushit Patel who scored (46 n.o.) and took a blinder of a catch took the honors of Man of the Match.

    CORINTHIANS BEAT INLAND EMPIRE-1

ALL-ROUND DISPLAY BY ANDREW PRICEInland Empire-1 won the toss but sent in Corinthians to bat first. Corinthians was all out for 242 runs. A fineall-round display by Andrew Price (47 runs and 3 for 36) helped his team record yet another victory. They areunbeaten so far in the league. Brendon Nugent 42, Theo Mavro 30, Pramukh Subramanian 33 and Faran Taher48 batted well for Corinthians to post a total of 242 runs. Vimal Patel 4 for 20 and Bharat Patel 2 for 43 bowledwell for IE-1.

In reply, IE-1 was all out for 161 runs. Gunvant Patel scored a polished 74 runs. He was ably assisted byGaurav Patel who scored 29 runs. Richard Blackledge 3 for 30, Andrew Price 3 for 36 and Abbas Nordakh 3for 35 bowled well for Corinthians.

At the end of the day, this is what Corinthians said:

IE-I won the toss and chose to field. Opening the batting, Brendan got the innings off to a flyer taking 12 off the

first 3 balls. He was joined by Theo and the pair plundered the bowling, smashing 75 off the first 10 overs

When Theo departed for a quick-fire 30, Pramukh came to the crease and kept the party going. Brendan fell in

the 16th over with the score at 118 for a well worked 42 and Pramukh followed a couple of overs later for 33.

Andy and Faran steadied the ship, both containing their hard hitting natural game. They partnered for 18 overs

and took the score to 195 before Andy went for 47. Faran continued to bat well but fell just 2 short of his 50.

The Corinthian innings closed on 242.

Dave Pieters and Richard opened. With the wind on his back and the new ball in his hand Dave came steamingin from the road end. He bowled a tight 3 overs for just 3 runs and was unlucky to have a couple of chances go

down. Richard had opener Hinal caught thanks to a a diving catch from DaveO with the score on just 14 but the

opening bowlers couldn't make any further inroads. Andy dislodged number 3 Jay by way of a good catch from

Vedant but it took the Corinthian attack another 10 overs to get the 3rd Inland Empire wicket which went again

to Andy with a good slip catch from Theo. At 22 overs IE were 105 for 3 and close to the required run rate.

Andy struck for his third wicket, a skier to Dave Pieters at deep mid off and Abbass struck in the next over to

clean bowl number 6, Yash. Richard came back on to dislodge opposite skipper Vimal and trap number 9

Deveng LBW while Abbass picked up his third wicket with a sharp caught and bowled. Vedant who had been

chomping at the bit to get on to bowl took all of one ball to finish proceedings and Inland Empire was all out

for 161. Special mention to IE opener Gunvant who weathered everything that the Corinthian attack could

throw at him and batted right threw to the 34th over for a hard earned 74.

Another good performance from the Corinthians. Good luck to Inland Empire for the rest of the season.

At the end of the game this is what Regal said:

On a hot and beautiful day, Regal and Hollywood 4 took the field for another great game of cricket

Hollywood 4 won the toss and put Regal into bat on a rock hard surface. The decision to take the field seemed

correct as Hollywood 4 had early breakthroughs with Champak and Mayur going cheaply. In came Kader the

ice man and carried on from last game with great display of sensible batting. On the other T Shaka rotated

strike with Kader to build a 67 run partnership. After the first water break, H4 got another breakthrough with T finding a fielder at point. Aftab joined in and really didnt do any damage to score. Jay joined Kader and

started slow, Kader got to another 50 unfortunately clipping Kenny to Sarju who made a great grab to his right.

With 2 new batsmen at the crease Jay and Satya (on debut), H4 had were back in the hunt. Jay and Satya didnt

try anything new for a while and played into the 2nd water break. Jay and Satya took started to take singles on

ease and took the scored to around 175 before Satya was bowled by a great ball. The tail and Jay took the score

to a great total of 205 in 39 overs.

H4 came out to bat, but Mayur as always destructive with the new ball took 3 quick wickets and put them on the

back foot. All bowlers chipped in well Devraj 2, Satya 2, Sunil 2, and Sonu 1. The most crucial wicket was taken

by Satya that of Satish, a caught and bowled that was the best catch of Regal this season thus far. Regal lost

energy in the field and H4 surged their way into the match. Numbers 6 thru 11 all made it to double digits, but

200 plus was going to be hard chase on a hot day and Regals finally got it together.

H4 standouts: Young Sahaj Patel with 4 wickets and even a younger Arjun Patel at the tender age of 12 kept

wickets and did a fantastic job. The h4 bunch is great team and in future will develop this guy to be dangerous.

Always a great game with H4 and Regal, both team played with high spirits and passion! Good Luck to H4 for

    the rest of the season.

Citrus meet their old rivals Deccan CC on Fontana Cricket Field on Sunday Morning. Both teams have many

new faces since they last played against each other about two years ago. Deccan won the toss but elected to

  • 8/6/2019 KCW Jun 15 2011 - Issue 26

Batting was difficult but this pitch did not help the bowlers much either. Shakeel in full form once again showed

his class and this young talent is becoming better and better batsman by each game. His cricket shots are

courageous and he is taking on all good bowlers in Div 3. Sunny at lower order batted well, but overall battingperformance from Citrus has been dismal. Citrus struggled to get the total score to 202 in spite of mediocre

    bowling by Deccan

Deccan started their innings losing early wickets, mostly to pace bowling, however, Zeshan and Sandesh buil

up a good partnership giving some hope to Deccan for a win, but once again Salman broke the partnership with

an excellent delivery. Once Zeshan was back in the shed, here comes Experienced Ashish and young Shakeel.

Both bowled one of their best spells ever and dismantled Deccan's remaining batsmen without much resistance

offered. Karthick took some amazing catches behind the wickets. Citrus won the game but gave many extra runs

which are very disappointing and something we will have to work on. Deccan team has many young talented

players, their fielding was brilliant. They are outstanding competitive and fun to play against. Monty is a

bowler who can destroy the opposition with his in swinging Yorkers. Good luck to Deccan for rest of theseason.

    20/24

Another all-around performance by Friends with the last game's centurion, Asif Abba Ali taking the lead with a

superb knock. He took his time and built his innings and was well supported by Abdulghani who played a calminnings and the pair put together a 100+ runs partnership. A late inning blitz by Burhan and some decent

showing by the tail enders ensured that Friends put up a challenging total on a flat but decent Smith Murphy

pitch. Burhan once again impressed with his all-around performance hitting the longest six of the game. He

pretty much hammered the bowlers with his quick 33. He also took 4 wickets in just as many overs.

Westwood had a disastrous start losing early wickets but their middle order steadied the ship and looked to

threaten at one point when the ever dependable and clinical Ali Qazi ruined their plans to finish the game for

Friends in the 31st over with a little over 100 runs still to get for Westwood.

There are still some question marks for some of Friends batsmen and bowlers as well as their fielding but the

newcomers have not let that become too apparent. With a majority of their games still to be played the veteranplayers will be keen to prove their mettle, for sure!! For now let's enjoy the two back to back comprehensive

and decisive wins by FCC who were well led by their skipper Fahmeed. Can't wait to see them in action during
