KeeperHollie Goldberg Sloan

Beginning paragraph

• Keeper, by Hollie Goldberg Sloan, is a book with a girl named Sasha who is afraid of everything. She then learns to not be afraid of everything which leads her to overcome her fears. In the beginning, it is rough and very sad for one who is only in middle school. Sasha’s mom is already dead and she is living with Nammy (her grandmother). During this novel, Sasha overcomes amazing feats and learns how to overcome her fears.

Rating

• I would give this book a letter grade of A- because the book did not have an impressive punctuation and because of that, I got very perplexed during the book. I would recommend this book to people who think that sports are very enjoyable, but mainly soccer, because it is about a soccer team that strives to win and through that effort, they win the soccer tournament! If I could ask the author one question, I’d ask her what inspired you to write this novel?

Word Splash

KeeperHollie Goldberg Sloan

Word SplashI chose soccer words for this word splash

collage because my book is about soccer. Friendship was used because it is about two friends who are inseparable and also because it would show that this book is not only about soccer, but also trust. This girl, Sasha, is a girl who is afraid of everything and as she gets into soccer, she starts taking up risks by just playing the sport.

KeeperHollie Goldberg Sloan

Word Splash cont.• Sasha becomes the teams back up, back up

goalie, the one thing she is afraid of most about soccer. She is constantly thinking about being in the goalies net and getting shot at with soccer balls! A picture of the soccer team would make a great impression on the word splash since teamwork is the key to their success. The book is exhilarating and it is about soccer, soccer balls, goalies, right wing, left wing, center, foe, allies, and goalie nets. But the one thing that keeps everyone together in this book is more than that, it is about trust, loyalty, friendship, and love.

Conflict

• The issue is that Sasha is afraid of everything and her friend, Courtney, wants her to play with her in the sport soccer so that she will overcome her fears.

• the 2 opposing forces is Sasha against herself.

• Determine the type of conflict.– Man against man– Man against self– Man against nature– Man against society

Courtney, and Otto.• Sasha, a young school girl, is a type of person

Otto, Sasha’s coach, is putting Sasha in goalie position and helps Sasha play soccer, while also helping her overcome her fears.

• Sasha has now made the soccer team and is the back up, back up goalie. From now on, Sasha is not playing that much with her team, but only in games. The team is working their way up the ranks, and now they it to the tournament. Otto is now telling the team that he will not be coaching next season because he is moving back to Russia.

Ending paragraph (cont.)

• After that he gives this motivating speech to the team and tries to keep the girls from crying. So now the tournament begins, and the first goalie is already out of the game from a leg injury. The back up goalie is now in . The score is 1-1 with very little time to spare. Courtney just preformed a miracle and scored! The score is now 2-1 and Sasha notices that the back up goalie is not feeling good and goes in for her!

KeeperHollie Goldberg Sloan

Ending paragraph (cont.)

• Sasha is out on the field in the goalie net and the opposing team fakes a trip( as it says in the book) close enough for a penalty shot on our side( Sasha’s team)! Non- foe against foe, Sasha against Ashley, Ashley now takes the penalty shot and wham!!! But it’s too late for Ashley, Sasha is too quick! Sasha jumped out and grabbed the ball right when Ashley struck, and won the tournament. In the end, Sasha overcame her fears and learned to take risks and not to be afraid of everything.
