Safety and VersatilityThe ClareHAL Instruments are designed for simplemanual testing and automatic mode for large volumeapplications in the most demanding environments. Theyare designed for use in manufacturing, laboratory,maintenance and high speed production environmentseither as a stand-alone test instrument or as anintegrated part of a production line system. The fullrange of enclosures and accessories enable users toquickly and economically meet all common internationalsafety requirements.

Meeting the StandardWith five versions of the HAL customers can select theinstrument that best meets their own particularrequirements. The top of the range HAL 104, providesthe full suite of electrical safety tests together with loadleakage and power factor. This version is the idealsolution for safety and functional testing.

With the ever changing demands of internationalstandards, the new ClareHAL Series meets a widerange of product compliance requirements including:IEC/EN 60598. For testing luminaires and light fittings,industrial lighting, domestic lighting, street lighting, metalhalide, mercury vapour, halogen and fluorescent sodiumlamps and LEDs.

IEC/EN 60950. For IT equipment such as PCs,telecoms equipment, satellite receivers and printers.

IEC/EN 60335. For household and similar electricalappliances such as washing machines, spin dryers,fridges, microwave cookers and electric cookers.

BS EN 60745. For hand-held electric tools such aselectric drills, orbital sanders, circular saws, jigsawsand electric screwdrivers.

IEC/EN 61010. For electrical equipment, test andmeasurement equipment, DMMs, Oscilloscopes andlaboratory equipment.

Traceability and production line controlClareHAL is so much more than a test instrumentrange. It’s an integrated system designed for testtraceability. The first in the world to store results, it canbe programmed with suitable test sequences which areapplied automatically on your production line.

ClareHAL SeriesFive individual test units for differentjobs, each with results memory.

The ClareHAL range is one of the most advanced designsavailable with outstanding levels of flexibility, functionality anduser safety. With a simple intuitive user interface the ClareHALcan be used as a simple manual tester with the push of abutton. Alternatively the full power of this unique instrumentcan be used to automate the testing sequence for fastperformance on the most demanding of production lines.

A large, clear, full graphic display presents information eitherin a numerical or analogue format. Tests can be started andstopped by simply pushing the large buttons on the front ofthe instrument or choose from a variety of pre-selectedautomated configurations, including remote PCs, PLCsor interlocks.

The advanced electronic design allows the operator to selecteither 50 or 60 hertz HiPot and Ground Bond Testing, makingthe instrument truly international in its application.

Features such as arc detection and the ability to set maximumand minimum thresholds all combine to enhance the quality ofthe testing process.

In addition to the ClareHAL’s internal memory, which willrecord up to 6000 test results, the instruments can beinterfaced with a variety of accessories ranging from bar codescanners through to label printers.

The fully comprehensive ClareHAL 104 combines all theelectrical safety tests with the functional testing of loadleakage and power factor. These features are particularlybeneficial to organisations where energy consumption andefficiency are becoming a more important aspect of aproduct’s design.

ClareHAL SeriesA clever design makes compliance,integration and traceability very easyto achieve.

Because traceability is such an important aspect of any safetyprogramme, the ClareHAL incorporates an internal memorywhich records the results of all tests. The instrument cantherefore operate in a stand-alone mode storing the resultready for download to an external database. The instrumentalso incorporates various input and output ports which allowthe test to be mechanised when connected to a suitablesafety enclosure or initiated from external controls or a barcode scanner.

The Safety E Base software package provided by Seawardruns on a host PC and provides remote control of theClareHAL instrument. In addition, control protocols are

available to allow the test instrument to be integrated into amanufacturing system where the host system takes totalcontrol of the ClareHAL safety/functional testing.

A variety of optional accessories are available including a labelprinter which can be driven directly from the ClareHAL. Uponcompletion of each test sequence a label can be printedwhich provides the PASS information or a FAIL label shouldthe item under test fail to comply with the test requirements.

Whatever the testing requirement, the ClareHAL instrumentshave the flexibility to give any organisation the level of controland traceability which suit their own requirements.

System Integration

The option of a PLC can be easilyaccommodated to control theClareHAL when the instrument formspart of a larger automated system.

Enclosures ensure the safety ofoperator working in the vicinity ofthe test system. Interlocks enhancesafety and improve overall efficiency.

Electrical safety testing can be a hazardous process toprovide maximum safeguard for an operator and complywith the recommendations of EN50191 which specifiesworking conditions of electrical testing. The use of safety test enclosures is a convenient, practical way of minimising the hazards.

Over the last 70 years, Seaward has produced manythousands of test enclosures for a wide range ofindustrial applications.

Seaward can supply and design safety test enclosures tomeet the particular applications of any organisation and ourskilled and experienced engineers are able to liaise withcustomers to identify their particular applications.

The new range of visor safety enclosures has been introducedto provide a practical and cost effective way of supplying astandard range of safety test enclosures, with a flexible palletsystem to accommodate different types of fixtures.

The visor enclosure with its stylish and ergonomic designgives operators a wide, clear field of view, simple access tothe equipment being tested and minimises the impact onthe operator’s working area. Constructed using durablenon-conducting material, this new range of enclosures isavailable in two sizes and is simple to install and interface withelectrical safety test instruments.

It is advisable to test anyelectrical safety tester at regularintervals to ensure that it isperforming in line withspecification and expectations.The Check Box is a simple(precision load) which can beconnected to the ClareHALand quickly confirm thatmeasurements are within theperformance level expected.The Check Box provides a loadfor a Bond, Hipot, Installationand leakage measurements.

Clare Switch Matrix

ClareHAL Scanner is designed tooperate with the ClareHAL101,103 and 104. The unitoperates in parallel with theClareHAL and provides thefacility to switch the High Voltageand Ground Bond measuringterminals to multiple positionson the equipment under test.The unit incorporates eight HiPotchannels and eight Ground Bondchannels.
