Village Voice English Edition April 2018 Volume 3 Paper 4 Keeping you in tune with the heart-beat of McGregor On the road again... The McGregor Young Warriors took to the road on the last two weekends, firstly taking part in the Challenge Mountain Bike Event in Stellenbosch with all nine boys doing the 40km route and doing very well. Also, mercifully, no mechanicals or human failures! They then stopped at Spur for lunch before returning to McGregor. On 11 March they travelled to the Peninsula to ride in the Cape Town Cycle Tour. With Max Menzies, they made a weekend of it with accommodation in Milnerton on Saturday evening. They spent Saturday at the expo in the Cape Town soccer stadium and then did a peninsular drive replicating Sunday’s route. Coffee and croissants at the Hub in Scarborough and Lunch at Mariners Warf in Hout Bay was enjoyed by all. The event kicked off on Sunday with a 7:40 start at the Grand Parade. A friend of Max, Chris Donn joined him to assist managing the group the day’s ride. The Warriors rode as a group and the guys enjoyed the day. They completed the race in a good time of 5 hours 5 minutes and could have achieved it closer to 4 hours, but decided to have a “chilled” group experience stopping at all the water tables. Watch the next issue for comments by the Young Warriors. Momentum sponsored the boys, picking up the cost of the entries and supplying full kit to all nine guys. The boys also contributed with each person chipping in R800. Breede Centre with an overseas funder, Andi Bichweiler contributed the balance. We are still waiting for a girls group to join the Mountain Bikers. This will be the first development girls group in South Africa. How about it! Exciting things are also happening with the BMX programme with a big development that will soon be seen in the village – CYCLING CHANGES LIVES

Keeping you in tune with the heart-beat of McGregor

On the road again...

They spent Saturday at the expo in the Cape Town soccer stadium and then did a

peninsular drive replicating Sunday’s route.

Kiddies’ CornerAnimals around us.Come let me tell you about stories that I’ve heard of animals all around us.... The dogs bark, the cats miaau, the ducks chase the goose, the lion seeks a big buck, the leopard lies in the cliffs. The elephant sprays water over his back and the monkeys swing in the branches, the owls keep watch over everything and the hyenas shout like dogs. It’s the animals on the farm, the animals in the forest, big and small they are there and each one is looking for his food. G.J.M – Chessalee WordPress.comThe Wizard of Oz

Last weekend McGregor’s own magical musical production of The Wizard of Oz opened in the Kampterrein Hall and there are 4 more performances on 23, 24, 29 & 31 March at 5pm. This production represents a major collaborative community project with McGregor’s Worst End Theatre Company teaming up with First Step Ballet and the Breede Centre (who were responsible for set construction), to take you over the rainbow into the land of Oz in search of the mysterious and powerful Wizard.

This unique local event is not to be missed!

All profits will be for First Step Ballet.

Her daughter, Me. Amanda Witbooi, living in Malmesbury says: “It’s a wonderful privilege to be part of 5 generations, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A healthy lifestyle and well-balanced eating plan is one of the secrets to the privilege of her long and healthy life, which is scarce in people. Although her short-term memory is no longer so good, her long-term memory is operating well, and she can still do mathematical calculations and recite long poems.” According to her daughter, her mother’s philosophy of life has made

a major contribution to her extended life: She taught them “ Honor your father and your mother like the LORD your God commanded you that your days may be extended ... Deut.5: 16”

Auntie Dot was born, grew up, married and worked as a librarian in McGregor and developed her love for reading. Her 87-year-old brother, Mr. Tobias, known as Oom Basie and his wife Bettie Jordaan, are still residents of McGregor.

Me. Amanda Witbooi has given her thanks on behalf of the family, by saying: “We thank our Heavenly Father for her long life.”

Grandma Dorothea Jordaan celebrates her 100th birthday!!
