DESCRIPTION EVAPRE evaporation retardant is an economical, high quality, water-based compound. It is specifically designed to form a thin monomolecular film to reduce rapid moisture loss from the concrete surfaces prior to curing. EVAPRE provides a significant aid in producing high-quality concrete flatwork. Rapid evaporation of water is retarded, slab surface conditions are normalized, and workers can adhere more closely to established finishing schedules. EVAPRE is also VOC-compliant. EVAPRE significantly reduces plastic shrinkage and cracking, wind crusting, stickiness, and sponginess, which often cause poor and uneven surface texture. These conditions result when the hydration is more rapid than the movement of bleed water to the surface. EVAPRE effectively combats and minimizes the effects of rapid-drying conditions such as low humidity, low dew point, high winds, direct sunlight, hot weather, heated concrete, or placement of concrete in a heated enclosure or interior area during cold weather. The protective film shield disappears as soon as the concrete is no longer plastic.

USES EVAPRE is ideal for use as an evaporation retardant for concrete surfaces where the evaporation rate exceeds the rate of bleeding. EVAPRE can be used with the MEADOW-PATCH® and MEADOW-CRETE® line of repair mortars from W. R. MEADOWS. It can also be used with condensed silica fume concrete, concrete containing fly ash, and most other cementitous products. When applying surface hardeners, EVAPRE can be used after screeding and after the first floating operation, if necessary.

NOTE: EVAPRE is specifically designed to fight off the destructive effects of early rapid evaporative moisture loss. Early rapid evaporative moisture loss is addressed in ACI Committee 305R-91, entitled "Recommended Practice for Hot Weather Concreting." This report contains a chart on page five that depicts the effect of concrete and air temperatures, relative humidity, and wind velocity on the rate of evaporation of surface moisture from concrete. It provides a graphic method for estimating the loss of surface moisture for various weather conditions.

FEATURES/BENEFITS • Significantly reduces plastic shrinkage and

cracking caused by evaporation in low humidity, high temperatures, and high winds.

• Allows use of lower slump and lower water: cement ratio concrete.

• Provides smooth and durable concrete flatwork.

SPECIFICATIONS Complies with all current federal, state, and local

maximum allowable VOC requirements, including U.S. EPA, SCAQMD, and OTC.

APPLICATION STEP 1 - For the majority of applications, EVAPRE should be mixed at a ratio of one (1) part EVAPRE to nine (9) parts water. Agitate EVAPRE before mixing with water. Agitate the diluted solution again, before applying. NOTE: EVAPRE is available in an easy-to-use, exclusive 45-ounce container. Just pour into a 3.5 gallon sprayer, add water to fill, and go to work. STEP 2 - Apply EVAPRE with a commercial sprayer, such as a Chapin 1949. Use a Chapin 6-5797 or equivalent spray nozzle that produces a flow rate of .5 gallon per minute. STEP 3 - The EVAPRE diluted solution should be applied immediately after screeding and/or between finishing operations, as needed. Application is simplified by the fugitive pigment, which will disappear completely upon drying. Do not allow puddling. If puddling occurs, wipe up immediately and rinse with water. STEP 4 - Clean all equipment immediately after use with soap and water. STEP 5 - Finish concrete surface as required. STEP 6 - Cure concrete after bleed water or excess surface water has dissipated. The use of EVAPRE does not negate the need for a quality concrete curing or curing and sealing compound from W. R. MEADOWS. NOTE … The residue remaining on the surface after finishing will not impair bonding or alter color. The protective shield usually lasts as long as the concrete is plastic. Therefore, all concrete surfaces must be properly cured as well.

PRECAUTIONS Keep from freezing. EVAPRE should not be over-applied or worked excessively into the concrete surface during finishing operations. EVAPRE should not be used to re-temper the concrete. EVAPRE is not a curing agent.

W. R. MEADOWS is not responsible for compatibility or results when EVAPRE is used with other manufacturer's products.

DESCRIPTIONICS Construction Grout is a blend of portland cement, special admixtures and proprietary aggregates designed to provide high flexural and compressive strength performance from plastic to fluid consistencies. ICS Construction Grout is non-metallic, non-shrink, non-corrosive and contains no added chlorides.

USESICS Construction Grout is ideal for a wide variety of precision applications that include:• Machinery Grouting: Machinery bases, compressors, punch

presses, generators• Structural Grouting: Steel columns, precast columns, crane

rails, beams• Anchoring: Guard rails, sign posts, dowels, rods, bolts, post-

tension anchor heads

BENEFITS• Workability: Meets standards through a wide range of con-

sistencies• Thixotropic: High flow restored by agitation• Non-Corrosive: Will not rust• Cost Effective: Extendable• Strength: Attains high compressive strengths at specified

water ratios• Economical: Good performance and low cost• Performance: Joins, supports and anchors• Hardens free of bleeding or segregation• Consistent: Strict Quality Control testing and standards

STANDARDSICS Construction Grout has been specifically formulated to exceed the requirements of ASTM C1107 and Corp of Engineers CRD C621. When tested in accordance with ASTM C827, ICS Construction Grout yields a controlled, positive expansion.

SURFACE PREPARATIONAll surfaces in contact with ICS Construction Grout shall be free of dirt, oil, grease, laitance and other contaminants that may act as bondbreakers. All unsound concrete should be removed to ensure a good bond. Smooth, dense surfaces need to be mechani-cally abraded to provide necessary bonding requirements. Me-chanically prepare the substrate to a minimum CSP 5 following ICRI Guideline 310.2R to allow proper bonding. ACI recommends that the area to be grouted should be saturated for 24 hours before placement. Remove any standing water. Substrate should be saturated, surface dry (SSD). Maintain contact areas between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C) prior to grouting and during initial curing period.

FORMINGMethod of forming must provide for rapid, continuous grout placement. For pourable grout, construct forms to retain grout without leakage. Forms should be coated with a form release for easy removal.

MIXINGFor larger batches, use a mortar mixer with rotating blades. For smaller batches, use a heavy duty 1/2” (15 mm) (or larger) low-speed, corded drill and mixing paddle #6 per ICRI Technical Guideline 320.5. Pre-wet mixer and empty excess water. Place 3/4 of the required cool, clean potable water in mixer, then add

MIXING (continued)dry material. Mix on low RPM for a total of 3 to 5 minutes, adding the remaining water, until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. When using a mortar mixer higher RPMs may be necessary to achieve a homogeneous mixture. Mix only enough grout that can be placed within working time. For plastic consistency, use 3.5 quarts of water. For flowable consistency, use 4.0 quarts of water. For fluid consistency, use 4.5 quarts of water. These mix ratios provide a guideline. The actual water demand will depend on type of mixer used, water temperature and ambient temperature. Adjust the water to achieve the desired flow. Recommended flow is 20 to 30 seconds using the ASTM C939 Flow Cone Method. For placements greater than 3” depth, ICS Construction Grout must be extended 30% by weight of powder, with clean, washed and dried 3/8” (1 cm) pea gravel. Do not blend excess water as this will cause bleeding and segregation. Do not use any other admix-tures or additives.

PLACINGGrout should be placed using established procedures according to American Concrete Institute recommendations. ICS Construc-tion Grout can be placed by pumping, pouring, rodding or strap-ping. Mechanical vibration may cause segregation of aggregates. Place grout on one side of area. Let grout flow to opposite and adjacent sides to avoid entrapment of air and uneven bearing of the grouted surface. When necessary, provide vent holes. Grout should continue to be placed until it protrudes from the entire perimeter area. Grout “head” and excess grout may be removed after initial set.

FINISHING & CURINGFollow standard ACI curing practices. Do not disturb form-work or grout for 24 hours. Use wet rags or burlap to cure for 6 hours after placement. After 6 hours, remove rags from exposed surfaces and cure with a membrane forming curing compound. For best results, exposed grout should extend downward at a 45° angle from edge of base.

STORAGENormal cement storage and handling practices should be ob-served. Store in an interior, cool, dry place. Shelf life is one year in original, unopened container.

LIMITATIONSIn addition to limitations already mentioned, please note the fol-lowing. Do not apply when the surface or ambient temperature is below 40°F (4°C) or expected to fall below 40°F (4°C) within 48 hours. When grouting at minimum temperatures, ensure surfaces in contact with grout do not fall below 40°F (4°C) until final set has been achieved and grout has reached 3,000 psi. Do not apply over surfaces that are frozen or contain frost. Do not apply over any active faults or cracks in the substrate without addressing any movement that may occur. Do not use as a patching or overlay mortar or in unconfined areas. Setting time will speed up in hot weather and slow in cold weather. For hot and cold weather ap-plications, contact your ICS representative.

DESCRIPTION PERMINATOR underslab vapor barrier is a new generation of polyolefin-based resin/chemical technology. PERMINATOR provides the vapor barrier industry with a highly effective, economical choice for helping to reduce the penetration of moisture and water vapor through the slab into the structure, thereby helping to reduce fungus, mildew, and mold growth. PERMINATOR also helps reduce radon gas from entering the structure. New resin technology allows dramatically greater puncture resistance while maintaining one of the lowest perm ratings in the market. PERMINATOR is tough enough to withstand normal construction jobsite conditions and traffic. It will not crack, puncture, snag, split, or tear easily.

PERMINATOR prevents uncontrolled moisture from entering the slab allowing the slab to maintain the maximum slab moisture emission rate and relative humidity level as allowed by flooring manufacturer’s specifications.

PERMINATOR is available in 10 mil and 15 mil thicknesses. Both versions are furnished in 200’ (61 m) long rolls.

PERMINATOR’s 12’ (3.66 m) wide (15 mil) and 15’ (4.57 m) wide (10 mil) rolls require fewer seams in application. Installation is quick and easy. All joints/seams, both side and end, should be overlapped 6” (152.4 mm) and taped using 4” (101.6 mm) wide PERMINATOR TAPE from W. R. MEADOWS. PERMINATOR rolls fast and smoothly over level tamped soil or compacted fill.

USES PERMINATOR underslab vapor barrier is primarily designed for underslab construction, where the soil has been tamped and leveled or compacted fill has been applied. The 200’ (61 m) long sheets are unrolled as is or cut to size and installed using the overlapping method. Overlaps are 6” (152.4 mm) wide and these seams are sealed using 4” (101.6 mm) wide PERMINATOR TAPE.

PERMINATOR can also be used as a protection course for waterproofing membranes. The desired sheet lengths are cut to size and retained at the top of the waterproofing membranes by PERMINATOR TAPE or TERMINATION BAR from W R. MEADOWS.

FEATURES/BENEFITS Available in 10 mil and 15 mil thicknesses, in 200’ (61 m)

long rolls. Helps reduce the penetration of moisture and water vapor

Reference American Concrete Institute (ACI) 302.1R-04: Chapter 4, Section 4.1.4 – Base Material for sub-grade preparation prior to placement of PERMINATOR.

Horizontal Application … Unroll 200’ (61 m) PERMINATOR over the area where the slab is to be poured. Cut to size if necessary. PERMINATOR should completely cover the pour area. All joints/seams, both side and end, should be overlapped 6” (152.4 mm) and taped using 4” (101.6 mm) wide PERMINATOR TAPE. (Note: The PERMINATOR TAPE area of adhesion should be free from dust, dirt, and moisture to allow maximum adhesion of the pressure-sensitive tape.)

The most efficient installation method includes placing PERMINATOR on top of the footing and against the vertical wall. This will sandwich PERMINATOR between the footing, vertical wall, and poured concrete floor. (See illustration on page 2.) This will help protect the concrete slab from external moisture sources once the slab has been placed.

Before placing concrete slab, make sure all penetrations, block outs, and damaged areas are repaired/addressed. Numerous municipal building codes do not allow the placement of vapor barriers over the footing, due to breaking of the bond between the wall and footing. Although this is not an optimal application method, W. R. MEADOWS approves this alternate method when required by building code. Figure 1 COLLAR

Seal All Protrusions … Cut a slit around pipes, ductwork, rebar, and wire penetrations to place the initial layer of PERMINATOR. To further protect the concrete slab from external moisture sources, use a piece of PERMINATOR and place a collar around this as well.

1. Cut a piece of PERMINATOR a minimum

width of 12” (304.8 mm). The length should be 1.5 times the pipe circumference. With a roofer’s knife or scissors, cut “fingers” half the width of the film. See Figure 1.

2. Wrap around and tape the collar onto the pipe and completely tape fingers to the bottom layer of PERMINATOR, as shown in Figure 2.

In the event that PERMINATOR is damaged during or after installation, repairs must be made. Cut a piece of PERMINATOR large enough to cover any damage by a minimum overlap of 6” (152.4 mm) in all directions. Clean all adhesion areas of dust, dirt, and moisture. Tape down all edges using PERMINATOR TAPE.

NOTE: It is not necessary to overlay PERMINATOR with gravel or sand. PERMINATOR is tough enough to withstand normal construction abuse and traffic. Most flooring companies recommend the placement of the concrete slab directly on the vapor barrier. We agree, since this eliminates the potential for trapping moisture in a blotter-effect, causing it to resurface through the slab into the flooring systems. Consult local building codes and regulations, plus architectural and design firm guidelines, prior to application. Figure 2: COLLAR INSTALLATION

Vertical Wall Application … Install MEL-ROL®

waterproofing membrane or MEL-ROL LM liquid waterproofing membrane from W. R. MEADOWS according to installation instructions. While the membrane is still tacky, install PERMINATOR as a protective course over the applied waterproofing membrane. Using TERMINATION BAR with concrete nails or PERMINATOR TAPE at the termination of the waterproofing membrane is advisable in some applications. Supervised care must be taken during backfilling against the material so that it is not damaged or punctured. If damage occurs, patch using the techniques outlined previously. When applying PERMINATOR TAPE to foundation walls, MEL-PRIME™ adhesive from W. R. MEADOWS may be used to increase bond. ACCESSORIES MEL-DRAIN™ rolled matrix drainage system is designed to remove moisture from around footings and to relieve hydrostatic head pressures. Several different versions are available. MEL-ROL LM or POINTING MASTIC may be used for stakes, small pipe, and rebar penetrations. Cut PERMINATOR just big enough for the penetration. Liberally apply MEL-ROL LM or POINTING MASTIC around the penetration to keep the integrity of the PERMINATOR membrane intact. MEL-ROL LM can be applied by brush, roller, or sprayer. POINTING MASTIC can be applied by caulking gun or trowel.

PERMINATOR TAPE is a self-adhesive tape for use in sealing vapor barrier seams and attachment to footings, protrusions, etc. It is offered in 4” (10 cm) widths and roll lengths of 180’ (55 m)/roll. It is packaged twelve rolls per carton. Coverage: One box of tape will adhere approximately 10 rolls of PERMINATOR.

TERMINATION BAR is provided in 10’ (3 m) lengths to attach PERMINATOR to walls as a protection course for vertical surface waterproofing applications. PRECAUTIONS PERMINATOR underslab vapor barrier does not negate the need for relief of hydrostatic heads. A complete drain tile system should be placed on the exterior of the footing and, in severe cases, on the interior of the footing as well. For maximum concrete performance and durability, the concrete floor slab design should provide for the lowest possible slump, yet assure complete hydration of the concrete.
