SAFETY: 1.  The Contractor shall maintain copies of the Material Safety Data

Sheets (MSDS) for all controlled substances and he shall ensure that employees are familiar with the precautions of the MSDS regarding hazards, necessary protective equipment, first aid measures and be trained in the handling and the use of these products.

2.  Work gloves and safety glasses shall be worn when handling the liquid primer.

3.  Protection from inhalation is required. The primer shall only be used in a well ventilated are. Personnel shall wear appropriate respiratory protection in areas where vapours may accumulate.

4.  No open flames, smoking or welding shall be permitted in the immediate vicinity of open containers of liquid primer at all times.

5.  Liquid primer containers shall not be left open in an effort to avoid contaminating the coating. Only authorised personnel shall be permitted to handle the liquid primer.

STORAGE AND MIXING: Liquid primer shall be stored in well sealed containers at temperatures between 5C.-30C. (40F.-85F.). Maintain sealant, top coat and primer at temperatures between 15C.-30C. (60F.-85F.) for at least 12 hours immediately before use. Keep all products within this temperature range during application whenever possible. Make certain that the primer has not gone beyond its expiry date before use and if it has replace with a current dated container. Mix primer before every application. SURFACE PREPARATION: A minimum SSPC-Sp-11-87T (Power Tool Clean to Bare Metal) in combination with SSPC-SP-2 (Solvent Clean) assisted by a metal file where necessary shall be completed before application of liquid primer. DO NOT BUFF OR POLISH BARE METAL SURFACES. A minimum SSPC-SP-1 (Hand Tool Clean) in combination with SSPC-SP-2 shall be completed before application of liquid primer when no power source is available.

LIQUID PRIMER APPLICATION: 1.  Open lid of primer container. 2.  Use stir stick or power mixing blade on slow rotation to mix primer. 3.  The primer shall be mixed thoroughly before every application. This can be

verified visually when the mixed primer exhibits a deep black colour from top to bottom of the container.

4.  A short bristle brush shall be used to apply the primer. 5.  The Applicator shall make every effort to apply the primer in a neat square

or rectangular shape upon the surface of the clean pipe.

6.  The primer shall be applied using a left to right motion followed by a top to bottom motion until entire surface to be coated (including individual wires) is covered.

7.  Before priming Applicator shall carefully bend the welded wires up and away from the pipe surface to allow brush into all areas needing coating.

8.  Applicator shall not permit any pooling or icycling (drips) of the primer before coating with sealant.

9.  Primer must be DRY TO THE TOUCH before sealant shall be applied.
