Pre-BYO Checks

Is your school password current?

Is you laptop account a local administrator account?

Is the antivirus software disabled (Windows Defender/ Norton / Avast / …)?

Are the network proxy settings set to Automatically detect settings ?

Is the Date and Time on your laptop correct (and the timezone: UTC+10 Brisbane)?

Is the OS Win10? (Android and ChromeOS are not supported)

Connect to wireless network DETE-GUEST

Do not connect to DETE-BYOX

Do not connect automatically

Open BYOX Guest Portal

A browser should automaticallyopen as shown

If not, type the URL news.com into a browser (Internet Explorer or Chrome)which will redirect to theGuest Portal

DO NOT LOG IN! – See next slide

GBN\username

YOU MUST HAVE GBN\ before your username!

Enter your password

Check the box

Sign On

Start Connection

Devuice Name: use the Laptop Manufacturer e.g. “Dell”

Description: e.g. your username

Run NetworkSetupAssistant

Seek help from the Helpdesk staff if this Start button is not displayed.

Run Network Setup Assistant

Confirm each prompt. E.g. yes

If you select no for any prompt you will not be connected!

If the WiFi is already connected to DETE-BYOx:

Connect to DETE-BYOX wireless network

Turn off Proxy settings Search for

“change proxy settings” or “network proxy” in the start menu

Turn Off Use setup script

Turn Off Automatically detect settings

Open Internet Explorer or Chrome If Chrome doesn’t work, use Internet Explorer

Do NOT use Edge

Download BYOX for Drives and Printers

Save BYOX.exe

Optionally, copy or move the BYOX.exe file to your Desktop,or pin to the taskbar

Download BYOX for Drives and Printers

Open / Run BYOX.exe

Do this every time you need to print or access G drive

Log in with your school username and password

This can take a couple of minutes to connect

Go to “This PC” in Windows File Explorer

You will See G drive under network locations

Login to the internethttp://auth.localnetwork.zone/

You will need to log in here, once, every time you want internet access.

Make sure you have done this before syncing OneNote

Navigate to http://cert.localnetwork.zone

Click Certificate Check Click Install to run the BYOx Certificate Installer

You may be asked to close the browser, to complete the installation.
