Many electronic devices operate in the 2.4 GigaHertz (GHz)radio band. The Kensington WiFi Finder has been designed tolight up only for 802.11b and 802.11g wireless network accesspoints commonly known as WiFi Hot Spots.

NOTE: As of this writing, the 802.11g standard had not beenfinalized. Nonetheless, some newer Hot Spots are alreadyusing 802.11g communications. Your Kensington WiFi Finderwill detect these Hot Spots as they exist today.

Keychain Ring Installation

The Kensington WiFi Finder comes with a keychain ring that can be attached. Simply slide the keychain ring to thebottom of the WiFi Finder (where you see the loop). Now you can attach your keys or attach your WiFi Finder to your carrying case.

The Kensington WiFi Finder is designed to sniff out HotSpots at the same range as most Wireless NetworkInterface Cards (WNIC’s). If it lights up green, you knowyou can connect. The green LED indicators will come onfor approximately two seconds, and then briefly flick off. This tells you that the WiFi Finder is scanning again tocheck for weaker or stronger WiFi signals. If there is noWiFi Hot Spot available, the first LED will quickly flash redevery two seconds to let you know that it is on and scanning.

When you press and release the button, your KensingtonWiFi Finder will continue scanning for two minutes andthen shut itself off. Depending on how often you use theWiFi Finder, the batteries can last well over a year. Toreplace the batteries, open the case and insert two type2032 button cells in the mounting clip.
