Kenya & Tanzania TrailsDay 1 : NairobiOn arrival at the Jomo KenyattaInternational Airport in Nairobi, you willbe met by our representative and givena short safari briefing before beingtransferred to The Residences at Karen,ideally located in the leafy suburbs ofKaren, Nairobi. Dinner will be served inthe Club restaurant (at an additionalcost) and you will have plenty of timeto go through the material in yourwelcome pack and look forward to thejourney ahead. Accommodation: The Residences atKarenTucked away in a Pleasant forestedarea overlooking the second hole of thegolf course, The Residences at Karenembody comfort, luxury and serenity,perfect for any getaway. Day 2 : Giraffe Centre &Elephant Orphanage

Nairobi - Elementaita. After breakfast,you will check out and meet yourdriver guide who will transfer you forexcursions in the surrounding KarenSuburbs. Your first stop during the touris Giraffe Centre where you will spendabout an hour.The centre offers guests the uniqueexperience of hand-feeding thesegentle giants at eye level from a

raised platform, while watchingthe warthogs below snuffle aroundlooking for titbits. Thereafter drive ashort distance to Daphne Sheldricks’Elephant Orphanage – where you havean opportunity to visit the many babyelephants that have been rescuedfrom threatening situations in Kenya’svarious national parks and even get achance to see the calves being fed andplaying with the staff. You will then visit the Karen BlixenMuseum: a chance to go back in timeand discover the famous Karen Blixen’shouse exactly as it was when she livedin Kenya. Located in an area whichwas once part of Karen Blixen’s vastcoffee estate, ‘bogani’, the museumwas Karen’s home from 1917 until1931.The house and grounds were madefamous by the film ‘Out of Africa ’andhave been restored by the Danishcommunity of Kenya. Visitors have aglimpse of typical colonial life in Kenyaat the turn of the twentieth century. After lunch at the lovely Karen BlixenCoffee Gardens, you will departon the next part of your adventurethat takes you from the hustle andbustle of Nairobi city to the small butbeautiful soda ash lake located in thefamous Great Rift Valley, named LakeElementaita. Elmenteita, meaning ‘place of dust’,is a small soda lake which attractsmany visiting flamingos. It has beennamed as a World Heritage Site for itsprolific birdlife. Day 3 : Elementaita & Nakuru

The lake is situated in themiddle of the national park to which itgives its name. Teeming with wildlifethe park has so much to offer. Lions,buffalos as well as the many rhinos thatcall this corner of Kenya home. Day 4 : Masai Mara

On arrival andcheck in, you will have lunch and spendthe rest of the afternoon relaxing inyour tent waiting for the evening whenthe temperature cools to head out onyour first Mara game drive. Masai Mara is one of Africa’s greatestwildlife reserves. Acacia dotted plains,tree-lined rivers and woodlands areabundant with wildlife and an array ofbirdlife. Game viewing is spectacularyear round; you may see a pride oflions stalking their prey, observe aherd of elephant and their fascinatingsocial structure, or see pods of hippowallowing in the rivers. The greatwildebeest migration is one of nature’swonders; an estimated two millionanimals migrate in a year-roundpattern through Tanzania and Kenya,following the rain. Back at the camp,dinner is served and this gives you theperfect opportunity to look back at yourday and relive all those highlights. Accommodation: Fig Tree CampFig Tree Camp is located in the heartof the Masai Mara on the banks of theTalek River. The spacious permanenttents have been newly renovated tooffer a new level of luxury. Featuring ensuite bathrooms and a verandah. Days 5-6 : Game drives in theMara

Over the next two days enjoy morningand afternoon game drives in the

Masai Mara or engage in the optionalactivities on offer at the Masai Mara.The early mornings are one of the besttimes to view the animals as this iswhen they are their most active beforethe heat of the day sets in. After a mid-morning of relaxation and lunch, headout into the reserve again for a chanceto tick off some more animals on your“must see” list. Keep your eyes peeledas you hunt for the last members onyour list. Visit the Mara River and askyour guide to show you the regular rivercrossing routes. Optional Balloon Safari:In the Masai Mara there is also theopportunity to rise early and experiencea game viewing adventure from anentirely different perspective! TheAdventure Aloft hot air balloon safariacross the Masai Mara takes off inthe crisp morning air, and lasts forapproximately an hour. Day 7 : Travel to ArushaMasai Mara - Nairobi - Arusha(Tanzania). This morning we enjoy ourlast sunrise in the Masai Mara withtea or coffee on the veranda. After agreat final breakfast we pick up ourlunch boxes and drive back to Nairobistopping at the Great Rift Valley forone last photo opportunity beforeyou continue on to Tanzania. You willboard a shuttle service which will takeyou across the Namanga border untilyou reach Arusha. You will be metand transferred to our lodge in Arush,arriving at approx 19:00. The rest of theevening is at leisure. There is the option to upgrade to aflight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro andonwards transfer to Arusha, we canarrange this for you upon request.Please contact our reservations

team for more information about thisupgrade. Accommodation: Mount Meru GameLodgeSet in beautiful and tranquilsurroundings, the Mount Meru GameLodge is nestled between the Usariver and the wildlife sanctuary. Day 8 : Tarangire National Park

Arusha - Tarangire National Park. Thismorning wake to the views of Mt Merubefore heading down to breakfast. Aftercollecting your packed lunch, you willjoin your Albatros Travel driver guide asyou head to Tarangire National Park. Onclearing the paperwork at the entrance,you will head into the park for a full daygame drive. Tarangire National Park, situated withinTanzania’s spectacular ManyaraRegion, is an awe-inspiring nationalpark comprising of granite ridges, rivervalleys, mixed vegetative landscapes,and free-roaming wildlife. During theannual dry season the Tarangire Riveris a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Day 9 : Serengeti National Park

Tarangire National Park - SerengetiNational Park. After breakfast and check

out, depart for the Serengeti with apacked lunch. On arrival into the park,enjoy a game drive through arguablythe best game park in the world enroute to your camp. Situated in the heart of Tanzania, theCentral Serengeti encompasses theworld-famous Seronera Valley whichis known for its prime wildlife-viewingopportunities. Best known for its naturalbeauty and abundance of diversewildlife, look forward to spotting theworld-renowned Big Five and a host ofother wildlife species including largeherds of zebra and wildebeest. Day 13 : Lake Manyara & Arusha

Karatu - Lake Manyara - Arusha -Kilimanjaro. After breakfast and checkout and drive to Lake Manyara NationalPark with lunch boxes for a morninggame drive. Situated in Tanzania’s central-northernregion with the Lake Manyara on itseast and the Manyara Escarpment toits west, the Lake Manyara National Parkoffers breathtaking views and a largevariety of habitats supporting an arrayof wildlife. This small park is home tosurprising biodiversity and featuresa magnificent landscape of acaciawoodlands, water forests, baobabstrewn cliffs, algae-streaked hotsprings, swamps and the lake itself. Most other nationalities, includingUK, USA, Canadian, Australian and NewZealand passport holders, do require avisa to enter Kenya. ALL tourists wishing to visit Kenyaneed to apply for a visa onlineat www.ecitizen.go.ke. The visaprocess can take up to 7 workingdays. For further details pleasevisit our Kenya visa page -http://www.onthegotours.com/Kenya/Visas. All passengers require an onward/return tickets and sufficient funds forlength of intended stay (at least US$500). A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificateis required for travel to Kenya and iftravelling from an infected area it mustbe presented upon arrival in order tobe granted entry. Please also note thatif you are travelling onward to Ugandaand/or Rwanda you will need a YellowFever Certificate to produce on arrivalin order to be granted entry. East Africa Tourist VisaIf you are planning on visiting Ugandaand/or Rwanda when travelling toKenya then you can apply for an EastAfrica tourist visa which will cover allcountries. VaccinationsYou should seek medical advice beforetravelling to Kenya from your localhealth practitioner and ensure thatyou receive all of the appropriatevaccinations. As a guide Polio,Diphtheria, Hepatitis A&B and Tetanusis strongly recommended. Rabies andMeningitis are also recommended. There is the risk of malaria in Kenya soit is very important to check with yourdoctor before you go, to see whethermalarial medication is required for the

areas you are visiting. A Yellow FeverVaccination Certificate is required fortravel to Kenya and if travelling froman infected area it must be presentedupon arrival in order to be grantedentry. Please also note that if you aretravelling onward to Uganda and/orRwanda you will need a Yellow FeverCertificate to produce on arrival inorder to be granted entry.

Time & VoltageKenya is 3 hours ahead of GMT. Daylightsaving time is not observed. In Kenya the standard voltage is220-240V. Primary sockets require a‘Type G’ - British BS-1363 type, three pinplug. You will need a voltage converter,and plug adapter in order to use U.S.appliances. We recommend packing auniversal adapter.

CurrencyThe currency of Kenya is the KenyanShilling (code KES, symbol KSh).1 KSh = 100 cents. Notes are indenominations of: KSh1,000, 500, 200,100 and 50.Coins are in denominations of KSh20, 10and 5. Banking hours: Mon-Fri 0900-1500, Sat0900-1100. ClimateKenya is an excellent year rounddestination with a favourable climateand reasonably low rainfall. In generalthe hottest months are December toMarch, although the climate variesenormously from place to place. Thelowland coastal areas are tropical,with year round high temperaturesand humidity, which is at its peak inApril and May, although tempered bymonsoon winds. The highlands aremore temperate with four seasons.Nairobi has a very pleasant climatethroughout the year due to its altitude.Near Lake Victoria, the temperaturesare much higher and rainfall can beheavy.

Ifyou exit this region and enter any othercountry, including Rwanda and theDemocratic Republic of Congo, you willneed to get new visas to re enter Kenya,Tanzania and Uganda.
