Amazing Prep!
Welcome to Week 4!
This week we have been loving our investigation
activities, in particular the construction area, light box
and the magical blue water tub. Students are
continuing to have a go at independently writing from
a model about what they have done in investigations.
Next week I will be attending a Walker Learning
Professional Development seminar in Melbourne and
I am very excited to be given this opportunity to
enhance my teaching skills and come back with some
great ideas for Investigations!
In Jolly Phonics we have been learning about the
letter i and p and the sounds they make. Students
have made some amazing igloos and penguins.
These are displayed in our classroom if any parents
would like to come and check them out.
In Math’s we are continuing practicing counting to 10
and beyond. We have been doing math group
rotations and have been playing hands on maths
games in those sessions. We also started a new topic
in Math’s this week which is patterns. Students have
been coping patterns and continuing them, they have
been doing a great job at this. Next week
students will be creating their own patterns.
IMPORTANT:
Please remember to check your child’s
reader folder each night as notes go
home in them regularly.
Tissue boxes, art smocks and headphones
need to be brought in.
ICT forms need to brought back ASAP.
Magical Grade 1/2…....
Grade 1/2 have had a fantastic week! We have been busy little bees this week working on so many tasks.
In Maths we have been working on calendars, days, dates
and seasons. The children are enjoying this and are so
clever at this. We have also been practicing counting by 2’s,
3’s, 5’s & 10’s
In our reading this week we are focusing on the Australian
author Aaron Blabey. We are enjoying reading the Pig the
Pug story of books.
In our writing this week we have been writing narrative sto-
ries and the focus this week is on the traditional favourite
story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have written
great stories, creating their own version of this fairytale.
In spelling we are discovering as many th words as possible
this week.
Reminders

• Drinkers – Water bottles need to be brought in every day

5/6 Brilliant!!!!. Firstly a big thank you to all the parents who made
it to interviews. I still have a few families to catch
and will do so over the next week or so.
Spelling: In spelling we are doing i-e words and
learning to use adjectives. Spelling homework is
due on Friday!
Reading: Don’t forget to read every night. We are
learning to locate interesting words and flip sounds
as a tricky word strategy. Reading groups are up
and running using the needed strategy as a guide
to our grouping rather than level.
Maths: Math mate is due on Friday. We are
leaning about decimal places to the thousandths
and their fraction equivalents.
Writing: We are working on quick powerful
narratives and are about to start critiquing authors
we like..
Just a reminder:
ICT, medical and occupation notes are due back
please.
Great work so far this week Grade 5/6!!!
Thanks to Tracy and Wendy for all their help
each week! We love it.
Grade 3/4 ....incredible!
Congratulations to our ‘Student of the Week’ Macey Hall, who showed great resilience at swimming and is a co-operative, hardworking student. Thanks to all our parents who turned up to our parent/teacher interviews. It was great to be able to discuss the student’s progress and any issues that may have arisen.
Our reading has focused on procedural text and our writing procedure text for a task the students are familiar with. In maths we have focused on odd, even numbers and 3D shapes. Thankyou to Kristen Hall for assisting us with cooking in our literacy groups.
ZONE TRIALS SWIMMING SPORTS. Well done to our representatives at the Zone Trials Swimming Sports on Monday. A big thankyou to the parents who took their children to the pool for this event. Congratulations to Kai and Beau Roberts who have qualified for the Mallee Zone Swimming Finals at the Swan Hill Pool on Monday 24th February. Good luck boys.

The MARC van is stocked and ready for borrowing. Children will visit the van with their grade and are able to borrow for the week. Books can be returned each week.
# Each MARC book has a sticker of a van on the front to show that they belong to MARC. Children from Grade 2 up are able to borrow two books each week. Foundation and Grade 1 students are able to borrow 1 book each week.
Please let me know if books are missing/ damaged or cannot be found.
Happy Reading!!

Kitchen Garden Program Some years ago, a couple of staff from KPS
decided that the SAKGP would be great for our
students to enjoy… so began our journey.
This year we continue with the grade 3’s and 4’s
planning, planting, producing and preparing.
For those of you who wonder why we are involved
in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
Program?
Through a kitchen garden program, children learn:
. positive food habits for life
. about their natural environment, the seasons, and
how to care for gardens
. practical skills, from recycling, composting and
preserving to budgeting and fundraising
. life skills, such as cooperating, sharing, critical
thinking and leadership
. by doing and having fun (they don’t even realise
they’re learning)
. to be engaged, especially those who face barriers
learning in the traditional classroom environment.
If you would like to be involved and have some time to volunteer on a Tuesday from 11:30 to 1 why not contact either Mr A or Mrs Mac. We would
love to have you involved in this program.
