to stand by its partner's selections and support the resulting systemfrom technical support to operational and end user support.

    Velocedge Advantage

The CADE system is based on an open architecture, standard Windowspersonal computer platform, taking full advantage of the incalculableinvestment the world is making in PC hardware, software, and internet tools.

As PC technology improves, so does the system's capability. With the CADEsoftware, you don't have to dedicate a computer to training alone.

The satellite industry is not accustomed to supporting remotely located,stand-alone, personal computers. PCs require additional attention to keeptheir software up to date and instruction on how to benefit from theiradditional advantages and applications. Most business television suppliersare ill equipped to support a distributed computing system connected via a

Local Area, Wide Area Networks, or particularly a dial-up network.

Velocedge has an unique advantage over these providers who are nowplaying catch-up in the world of distributed computing networks and internetconnected training systems. It has an extensive background in not onlyinteractive satellite systems, but extraordinary experience with thedeployment and management of computer and communication systems. It isunparalleled in its ability to combine interactive distance learning computernetworks with business television to reduce cost, reduce delivery time, andincrease learning effectiveness.

As unique and agile as thecorporate plane... (but, of course,

considerably faster!...) Velocedgeprides itself with its unique

position in the highly computerizedInteractive Distance Learningmarketplace. Velocedge thrives inthe Internet age of softwaredevelopment. Its unique approachto software development has not

only created an exciting interactivecommunication system, but the

tools necessary to allow it to remotely update, manage, and control thisnetwork of internet connected personal computers. It can upgrade

software, transfer files, or reconfigure operations from a central location, totally transparent to the site personnel. Additionally, it can take over the

remote user's display, mouse, and keyboard to determine problems or toshow inexperienced operators how to use the system.

    Advantages Over Its Competition

The advantage Velocedge has over its competition's software products arenumerous. However, these can be summed up in a few simple bullets:

Meetings that dont require expensive and time-consuming travel Improving thetouch with remote locations Vendor sponsored presentations Inviting customers to local sites for special presentations Extracting hidden "knowledge assets" and Facilitating knowledge transfer

CADE provides live data, text, web, and audio interaction between the

Instructor and or Presenter and the remote participants located throughout

    the country or the world.

Audio - Participant's can speak over an internet connection

    Data - Collect answers to multiple-choice, true/false, yes/no, numericquestions

Recorded Audio - Record audio questions for topic experts Text- Live chat between Presenter and a site or groups of sites Video - View streaming video in lieu of satellite broadcast Web Pages - Synchronized delivery of web pages to learners

The CADE system also supports off-Line applications. Not everything

happens during a live broadcast so the CADE Learning ManagementWeb allow participants to further interact with the Presenter/Instructor

    through the CADE web site:

Take tests and exams, including essay type questions Review the results of their tests, exams, and current requirements Listen to answers to recorded questions from topic experts Send and receive messages like e-mail Chat with Instructor/Presenter's or other program participants Participate in course or special topic discussion groups

The Communication And Distance Education (CADE) system is composed offour primary components:

    1. CADE Virtual ClassroomPC based software that controls communication and live interaction

between the remote sites and the broadcast studio over any Internetconnection

    2. CADE Studio Control

PC software that provides the Instructor/Presenter with participantinformation and control over the interactive broadcast session. It also

controls database access and communication to the remote sites. TheCADE Audio Control redirects the participant's digitized voice from theinternet and re-broadcasts the conversation.

    3. CADE Learning Management Web

Web based applications that provide the ability to access or createinformation the CADE database on participants, programs, courses, schedules, sites, results, reports, and any other information capturedor used by the system.

    4. CADE System SupportVelocedge provides on-going software updates automatically for all

software and toll-free access to help for any aspect of the interactivebroadcast. A Location Control system provides easy re-location or re-

configuring of the CADE applications transparently to the remote sites. And theCADE Help Desk Communicator makes it easier than ever toget your questions answered.

The CADE system was originally developed at the Canadian AutomotiveRepair & Service Council and subsequently installed in the Good SamaritanSociety's network to provide nurse's training, college degree completion, andcontinuing education credits (CEU). It has been tested with over 3,000simultaneous participants. CADE was designed to support multiplelanguages. Currently English and French versions are available, but adaptingother languages is as simple as translating a text file of all terms and labelsused in the software.

    CADE Virtual Classroom

The CADE Virtual Classroom provides the ability for people at remote locationsto participate in interactive courses or presentations. An interactive sessionmay be delivered to a few people sitting at a standard multi-media PC, to afew thousand people in a classroom setting using wireless remote controldevices, or a mix of both. Interaction can take many forms:

Respond to yes/no, true/false, multiple choice type questions Speak with the presenter via the Internet Listen to remote participants Respond to questions anonymously

Record audio questions for topic experts

    A Software Manufacturer

Velocedge views itself as a software manufacturer. A manufacturer with zerocost for raw materials, zero cost for warehousing, distribution and asks, "how

much less could a car cost if it were manufactured under those conditions?"

CADE is a product of a new generation in distance learning systems. CADEcombines the most advanced distance learning software and technologies:digital audio, voice over IP, streaming audio and video, text-to-speech, andwireless communication with a business proposition much better suited totoday's economic environment.

    "Software Products at Software Prices"

Velocedge's roots have always been in software. Its founder,Steve Ricketts, hasdeveloped advanced software systems since 1970. His grandfather became verysuccessful during the great depression by building a chain of auto salvages based on themotto "Salvage Parts at Salvage Prices" and establishing an honest value for theproducts he sold. That same philosophy runs throughout Velocedge today.

Student Skill Level: Familiarity with computer applications, including word processing and email is

    required.

Connectivity: You must have computer and Internet access for all online (sec. IN) and hybrid (sec. Y)

courses. A T1 or higher, DSL, Cable, or high speed Satellite connection is recommended (56k dial-up

will work, but your courses will run very slowly and there may be video features that you will have to

access from a faster location, like a library).

HCC's library offers computer access on a first come, first served basis. Some of our computer labs are

Other Software Needs: You will be required to turn in many written assignments, so you will need

access to a word processing program. We recommend Microsoft Office, since it is the most common

suite of software. However, other word processing programs are usually sufficient. If you have

questions about what software might be necessary, please check the course syllabus or contact the

instructor for the course. It is your responsibility to have access to the software for your course.

Some Internet courses require more RAM and hard drive capacity due to specialized software needs.

This will be indicated in your course syllabus. Some courses also require the purchase of additional

software. Most courses do not require special software, but if you are in a program that requires

extensive computer skills (CIS, NET, GIS, etc.), you may need to purchase special software and

    upgrade your computer's capabilities.

Remember you are responsible for the safety and integrity of your work. If you use borrowed or lab

computers, make sure all your work is stored on removable media, like a flashdrive.

a back-up computer (work, friend or relatives computer) in case of equipment failure.

    2. A high-speed Internet connection is highly recommended for all courses. We cannot

guarantee multimedia components will work on slower connections. Some wireless

connections might also present a problem. Unfortunately, we cannot distribute hard

    copies (e.g., cd-rom, dvd-rom) of multimedia items.

    3. Many courses use audio-video presentations. Students will need speakers, microphone,

    and headphones for the presentations.

Software RequirementsThis software is available at no cost (the one exception is the MS Office suite,

however there is a free alternative). It is recommended that you download the

following software. Click on the logo(s) to download.

access their courses using Firefox (Chrome, Internet Explorer or Safari have limitedfunctionality)

    Player.

    3. Adobe Reader Many courses include .pdf documents which require Adobe Reader.

    4. Java Runtime Environment Many courses incorporate content which requires JRE.

    5. MS Office or Open Office Courses require updated business suite applications. Open
