Masthead

• This is large, bold consistent between each issue. The features of the masthead make it stand out. It is used by the audience to identify the magazine. Other elements of this magazine overlap, this is know as a bleed.

Image

• The image shows a performer possibly playing live or on a staged photoshoot. The way he is dressed in all black, with his shirt unbuttoned, messy hair along with his slightly damaged guitar all contributed to the connotations of him being a rockmusician. The image is also backlit giving the look of him glowing, giving the impression of great power.

Bar code

• This features on most front covers. It usually gives the price along with issue number and date of issue, this information is very useful for the audience and this is why it is so easily available on the front cover.

Colour Scheme

• This front cover features 4 main colours of black, white , green and yellow. This allows the front cover to stand out as it is quite vibrant. The green and yellow are fairly untypical of a rock music magazine and the usually feature black, white and red.

Structure & form

• This Magazine follows the standard structure of the rock genre. It features more than one image which adds to the overall composition. It also has many cover lines that relate to further articles that fill out the what would be otherwise blank space. All these elements add together and make this magazine conform to the conventions of the genre of rock.

Language & written code

• The words used on the front cover Often used to further draw in the audience. For example “exclusive” implies that the information inside cannot be gained from any other magazine or source.

Pull Quote

• This is a very common Convention of a front cover. The quote often refers to a further article featuring the person who said it. This gives a small, interesting piece of teasing content to allow the reader to have an insight to what the article will be about.
