1. Type of brief: the type of Project I think I best respond to is an open brief, where the outcomes are far more open and unspecified. This is because I have more of a choice of what I want to do, with the ‘tight briefs’ although I do enjoy doing them, you cannot go as ‘out’ as you want to and with the ‘open’ briefs we can basically do whatever we want to do, in the right way though.

2. Integral elements: Within my work, I often like to use Photography, with the D&AD project, I did some vacuum forming to take photographs with and in my Manifesto project I made a dress and took photographs for this. I think this add something to my work. I also use Typography quite a lot, I love doing monochromatic work. Making my photographs Black and White and having black and white features in my work. I have also started doing black on black in my work and hav-ing some embroidery on there. I’ve also drawn out some of the text on my work. I think I want to continue with this, I really like monochromatic work with lots of detail.

3. Success: I think my most successful work has been my Manifesto, probably because I have enjoyed it the most and I had a lot of time to do it and develop my ideas to a place where I think the outcome has been the best it could be, it looks like I wanted it to, I used monochromatic images with thread around the outside and I drew on the font, I think this makes it look more delicate and I wanted to make it look handmade and special if somebody receives it.

4. Problems: I think problems have arisen with my time keeping, I always seem to run out of time with everything and have to rush near the end, I need to start planning my time. I also need to do more development work, I always want to start my final piece as soon as I can because that’s the bit I enjoy doing the most.

5. Personality: I think this year and this semester especially I have definitely been able to introduce my personality into my work. I think I have done this more on the projects, which were more open, such as the Manifesto Project because I had more leeway to do what I like and not stick to a guide-line as such. I am very interested in Fashion so I like to put this in my work; hopefully it shows in the right way. I want to carry on in a way I have done in this last project.

For my D&AD project, I chose to do the Editorial Brief for Pentagram. For this Brief I had trouble getting started because there were so many ideas I had, I didn’t know which one to choose. Because it was such an open Brief as well, I wasn’t sure if I was going in the right direction with it. However, after a talk with the tutors, I decided what I would be doing and everything was good from there. I saw a lot of opportunities with this, because it was mostly going to be typographic, I still wanted to include some images, therefore I did some Vacuum Forming in the wood department of the University, I then took some Photographs of this work that I had done and included it in my work. I did quite a lot of research for this project and therefore some things I was looking at influenced my work, for example books with Typography etc, but I already had quite a clear idea in my head that I wanted to develop. It was when I was developing my idea that I was changing it for the better as I went along, this is because I could see how it looked and if didn’t look right or I didn’t like it, I could see and change it.

The concept I came up with is; a series of special books/publications on specific people who have given talks for The Circle. Overall I made 3 booklets, one for each; Stefan Sagmeister, Simon Esterson and Richard Morrison. These are to be inserted into the Circular Magazine. I made each with around 5 spreads. They all had 2 compartments, as you open it up you see the Silver Circle. This was to symbolise the circle of the Circular Magazine and a camera flash, because these are quite well known people what will probably regularly have to have their picture taken. On the left you will see french folded spreads with the name of the person I had chosen, made from the vacuum formed letters and the faces in black and white - a running theme in my work. And on the left spreads there is information about these people and a lot of typography on different paper and in different formats.

I feel I had successfully met the creative demands of the brief. I had to create something that would be inserted into the special Edition Magazine and that is what I did, it gave enough information for the reader to know about what they did and how they are successful as well as using Typography and Photographs and in a peculiar format. I think one of the flaws of my work is not getting it professionally printed, in the second part of each booklet, I glued the pages together, like I wanted to rather than printing back to back, but looking back on it I think I should have printed back to back. Another flaw is the way it is put together, if I had, had a little more time I could have done this properly.

n. Through my Manifesto, I was trying to get across the idea that I am interested in fashion, this is

one of the things people may be able to tell when they meet me (or may not be able to tell) so you could probably guess which Manifesto was mine. I also wanted to show the kind of things I like and believe in through the words on my manifesto.

I really like the monochrome colours of Black and White, so I already knew which colours I was going to use. And I love Art Direction so I knew I wanted to include Photographs of some form in my Project. I thought that considering my work is along the lines of Fashion, I thought I should make a Dress, I own an old Singer Sewing machine so I could make it quite easily. I like Alexander McQueen and he used a lot of layering in his creations so I thought I could do that with my design. Originally I was going to do some print screening on the Dress of all the Different points in my Manifesto, each on a different layer and I would take a picture of each different layer being lifted to reveal another point of my manifesto, however I decided to change my idea. I wanted to do something a little more elegant. This is when I came up with my current idea. I like the idea of elements such as hand drawn, Different papers, black and white, photographs and stitching altogether.

My final designs are Handmade postcards, they can be sent out and each one shows and tells the viewer a little bit of me, it also has my web address, e-mail and phone number on it so they can contact me. They can also be used as a post card, it includes some lines for an address on the back and a rectangle for the stamp and they can write notes anywhere and send it. I thought I would make a box to put them all in to keep them altogether some don’t get list and it looks more professional than them all being loose and the box has a title on it so people know what they are. In the future I think I will continue to use similar colour schemes and materials on some of my own projects, this is more me I think than anything else I’ve done recently.

- Black is always in Style.- I never wear pants. Dresses are my favorite thing to wear. - I love wearing red nail varnish, it reminds me of the 1950s and I don’t go out without nail varnish on, I feel naked without it. - The 1950s is my favorite era, for fashion and just everything else, things were so much safer and the people look like they were just so much lovelier. - A woman is never overdressed or under dressed with a little black dress.- The dresses your wear should be tight enough to show you’re a woman but loose enough to show you’re a lady- I never swear.- I believe a girl should be three things: Elegant, Classy and Fabulous. - I wear Lipstick 65% of the time, the other 35% I’m sleeping. - I don’t wear ‘trainers’. - My favorite books are Magazines, I love looking through at the Fashion and the pretty pictures, I hardly ever read them, unless I see somebody I really like in there and I want to read their story. I have quite a collection of Vogue, Wonderland and Dazed & Confused etc. - To appear well dressed, you have to be tall, pretty and skinny, something that I am not and would love to be. - Life is short, wear what you want. - Less is more. I think too many accessories looks awful. - I am not interested in the Money I could make. I just want to be wonderful. I would probably never have a lot of money anyway; when I do get money I spend it too fast on beautiful things, such as coats, shoes, bags and dresses.- Shopping is my favorite thing.- I love pastel colours; I think they’re beautiful!- I love perfume; my favorite scents at the moment are Chanel - Mademoiselle, Alien – Thierry Mugler, Ghost - Deep night and Oh Lola by Marc Jacobs. I wear them all the time. Coco Chanel once said ‘A women who doesn’t wear perfume has no future’.- One of my favourite accessories is Sunglasses. I love Cat-eye sunglasses like what Marilyn Monroe wore, Wayfarer Sunglasses, over sized sunglasses like what Jackie Onassis and Audrey Hepburn wore and I love the Chanel half tint sunglasses Ashley Olsen wore. I wish I owned a pair of every kind of Sunglasses.

Personal Development Plan.

How will you develop and broaden your technical abilities? Over the summer, I will apply for some work experience. I am also going to learn more about how to use Dreamweaver, in High School I taught myself how to use Photoshop by using it and watching tutorials online, I think this is the best way I learn to use programs like this, therefor this is what I will do for Dreamweaver. I am also going to keep creating things over the summer to broaden my portfolio and to gain new skills. I am also going to enter some competitions.

How will you develop and broaden you knowledge of contemporary practice in relation to your own interests? I will do this by trying to get some work experience, in a place where I not only will enjoy but also help me in the future and this will help me gain knowledge and understanding of what life will be like after university.

How will you nurture and develop you current strengths? I will do this by continuing to work on any Graphics work I can find over the Summer and just keep using Photoshop, Illustrator etc and updating my Website, I will also apply for Graphic Design Jobs.

Where do you need to strengthen your game and more importantly how are you going to make this happen. What action needs to take place?I need to strengthen the amount of research that I do, I tend to research but then not record any of it. I also need to do more development work, the final product is my favourite thing to do so I usually rush through the parts I need the most and make the final whereas the final product could be better is I develop my ideas more.
