CELEBRATION

OBSERVANCE OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK AT NITIE

The Vigilance Awareness Week was observed in NITIE from 29th October to 3rd November 2012. The week was inaugurated with the pledge taken by the faculty, offi cers, staff and students. Prof. DS Hegde, NITIE, administered the pledge. Various programmes were organised during this period.

As a part of this week, various activities were undertaken including display of banners at prominent locations in the institute, anti corruption stickers, debate competition for all employees & students was held and a seminar in the domain. The topic for the debate competition was “Transparency in Public Procurement” through e-governance / public awareness / self discipline, etc. The competition was held on 1st November 2012. Institute employees and students responded well in this event. On this event Prof. HV Bhasin, Prof. BM Ghodeswar and Prof. NK Mehta judged the participants. The judges also contributed to the event discussing the topic and making the whole event lively and interesting.

NITIE organized a special talk by Prof. D S Hegde for Transparency in Public Procurement. He shared his views in preventing corruption by addressing the issues prevalent in human nature.

Nitiens also observed the anti corruption sticker day.

The prizes for the debate competition were distributed to the winners by Dr. Amitabha De. The program was coordinated by Prof. Sadhana Ghosh, Chairperson, Vigilance Awareness Committee and supported by team members namely Dr. Milind Akarte, Dr. Rauf Iqbal, Mrs. Vidya P Avarsekar, Mr. U C Kadikar, Mrs Anila Fadnavis and Mrs Suchita R Bedekar.

The 138th meeting of the NITIE Board of Governors and 65th meeting of the NITIE Society were held on 3.12.2012 at NITIE, Mumbai. Mr. Gautam Thapar, Chairman, NITIE Board of Governors presided the meeting.

NITIE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (NAA)

SANSMARAN’2012 – A VOYAGE DOWN THE MEMORY LANE

NITIE has crossed many milestones in its journey of academic and professional excellence and has carved a niche for itself in the galaxy of top notch institutes in the country. Every year NITIE takes a walk down the corridors of nostalgia boasting its legacy of a respondent and diversifi ed Alumni network carrying along memories that they would cherish forever.

24th Nov 2012 was the day when they all returned to their Alma-Mater. It was Sansmaran-2012, NITIE’s Annual Alumni Meet, which brought back more than hundred alumni across the globe to the picturesque campus of NITIE.

The day started out with an informal campus tour with old friends chatting, remembering their good old days and reliving the memories related to each nook and corner of their college.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This was followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NITIE Alumni Association. Prof. Ashok K. Pundir, Dean, Student Affairs and Placement and Honorary Secretary, NAA welcomed the gathering and informed about the activities carried out last year. Dr. Amitabha De, Director and President, NAA elaborated the achievements, ongoing activities and future plans of the institute. Mr. Dev Bhattacharya, Chairman, NAA, talked about the future plans of NAA. It was felt that the alumni may take initiatives to build an NAA Annual General Body Meeting auditorium, Open Air Café and an Alumni Center in the institute campus. The idea of an alumni-funded student scholarship was also pondered upon. The AGM also deliberated future requirements of the institute and how to steer Indian industries to the pinnacles of success.

PANEL DISCUSSION

Next,everyone was set to witness the highlight of the event, the ‘Panel Discussion’ in NITIE lawns. The burning topic ‘What ails the Indian Economy? When do you see a turnaround? Which sectors will lead the recovery?’ was deeply discussed about by the eminent panel of alumni consisting of Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman and CEO, Zensar Technologies,Mr. Dev Bhattacharya, Group Executive President, Aditya Birla Group, Mr. B. PrasadaRao, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.,Mr. AmitavaMondal, Managing Director and CEO, Stone India Ltd., and Mr. K. Subrahmanian, Managing Director, Afcon Infrastructure Ltd. With media coverage from

HINDI NEWS

HINDI WORKSHOP

A Hindi Workshop (No.69) was organised in NITIE on 19-20th December, 2012. Four offi cers & four employees of the Institute participated. Prof. (Mrs.) Neelima Naik, Dean (Programmes & Consultancy) inaugurated the Workshop. The eminent personalities working for the progress of Hindi delivered lectures on various subjects. At the Participants Assessment Session of the Workshop

Mrs. Shobhana Suresh, Mr. S.R. Rasal, Mrs. Sarada M. Nair, Mr. G.M. Kokani and Mrs. S.C. Shirwadkar were declared the best participants of this Hindi Workshop. On the last day, a Feedback cum Open Forum of the participant was organised to gain an insight through their suggestions for making Hindi implementation more effective. Dr. Amitabh De, Director, NITIE addressed the participants and distributed the Certifi cates. Mr Suresh Chandra Jain, Hindi Offi cer conducted the programme and gave vote of thanks.

HINDI DAY / FORTNIGHT CELEBRATIONS

NITIE celebrated Hindi Day / Fortnight from 3rd September to 14th September, 2012. Questionnaire, General Knowledge / Science, Dictation, Noting/writing, Memory Power, Vocal Recital Competition, Hindi Typing, Hindi Stenography, Self written Poetry, Debate, See & Write Legibly, Essay Writing, were orgranised on this occassion for Faculties, Offi cers, Staff and Students. On 10th October, 2012 in the Valedictory function the prizes & letters of appreciation were distributed to 150 winners of various Hindi competitions. On this occasion, Mrs. Jayanti J Salvi, Nurse was honoured with Shawl, Shrifal, Bouquet and Appreciation Letter for Best Hindi Co-ordinator.

At the valedictory function, Chief Guest Mr. Vinod Tiwari, Director, Rajasthani Institute of Mass Communication, said that the people with various languages are living in our country but Hindi being link language has brought the nation on the common platform. He said that Hindi is like wave of river Ganga in which all the languages dissolve to strengthen Hindi. The contribution of non Hindi speaking people is excellent to propagate Hindi and it is required to inspire them.

Dr. Amitabha De, Director, NITIE appreciated the Offi cers and the Staff of the Institute for using Hindi in their work and congratulated the winners of the competitions of Hindi fortnight. He underlined the role of Hindi in the unity of the country. Mr. R.L. Samota, Registrar expressed his commitment to propagate the use of Offi cial Language Hindi in the Institute and congratulated all the winners.

Mr. Suresh Chandra Jain, Hindi Offi cer co-ordinated and conducted the programme successfully and appealed all to make efforts to achieve the targets of Offi cial Language Policy. Mr. Mohd. Aftab Alam, Jr. Hindi Translator proposed vote of thanks.

HINDI TYPING TRAINING

Three LDCs of the Institute i.e. Mr. P.B. Parab, Mr. Sanjay S. Rane and Mr. S.V. Parab have successfully completed Hindi Typing Training at Hindi Teaching Scheme, Offi cial Language Department, Ministry for Home Affairs.
