1. General

1.1 Use

Special equipment must be used to preventharmful substances which corrode the ma-terials used for draining elements or disturboperation from entering the draining systemin the first place. Sand and sludge traps areused where wastewater containing sedi-ment is discharged into the draining system.

One quite unusual application of the provi-sions in DIN 1986, Part 3, “Impermissibleuse by setting substances” concerns theuse of plaster in the dental, surgical and or-thopedic treatment areas of hospitals, clayin school handicrafts lessons etc.

1.2 Dimensioning

The size of the sediment separator must bedimensioned according to the volume andtype (e.g. plaster, scale, synthetic resin, glass) of the washwater to be discharged.

The following criteria must be taken intoaccount- Washwater drain- Density of the heavy materials- Quantity of heavy materials to bedischargedAccordingly, empirical values allow was-hwater flows to be matched to the nominalsizes as follows:0.5 l/s flow = NS 11.0 l/s flow = NS 2

1.3 System description

The KESSEL sediment separators NS 1and 2 are made of PE-HD and are thus ab-solutely corrosion-free. They stand out onaccount of their compact design and can beset up directly where the sediment occurs. The systems are delivered completely as-sembled and are immediately ready for im-mediate operation. The collecting tanks caneasily be removed from the separator fordisposal of the contents and cleaning.

The inlet and outlet of the KESSEL sedi-ment separators has been designed forconnection of SML pipes according to DIN19522

1.4 Disposal

The first disposal must be carried out within2-3 weeks of initial operation.Disposal intervals: Disposal must be car-ried out when the collecting tanks are halffull at the latest. Please check the filling level of these collec-ting tanks at regular intervals to guaranteeperfect separating efficiency. The systems and collecting tanks must befilled with water up to the overflow afterevery disposal process.
