Excavator Safety Seminars
• 2015 will be the 9th consecutive year of
seminars
• Nine seminars each March that continue
to grow in size
– 2014, more than 3,000 excavators, design
engineers, municipal employees, and
contractors in attendance
Free Trainings
• Dig Safely New York conducts free
breakfast, lunch, and dinner trainings in
areas requested by a sponsor, or areas
that need attention.

• As of September 26, 2014, a total of 213
free safety presentations were conducted
by the Dig Safely New York field
representatives, for a total of 7,846 trained

Excavator Certification Program
• Obtained funds from PHSMA Grant in
2013 to develop and implement a Certified
Excavator Curriculum.
• Attaining the Dig Safely New York Excavator Best Practices Certification is based on professional work experience and successfully completing the 4-hour Certification course.

Excavator Certification Program
• The course examination is divided into: – Introduction, Overview & Guidelines – Make Your Mark for Safety: Classroom Tabletop
Exercises/Putting Your Knowledge to Work – Trainee Evaluation, Program Evaluation & Conclusion
• Trainees will be required to complete and pass 20 multiple choice questions in order to complete the course and receive the certified designation
• Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will be issued the program card

• $25 fee to offset costs of labor, venue and materials.
• Classes will be limited to 20 people.

2014 State Damage Prevention Grant
PHMSA
• Secured $83,251 in Grant Monies for Tableau Software
– Allow Dig Safely New York to provide damage data and call volume ratios in real time
– As an example, the educational efforts in a county vs. damages vs. call volume can easily be brought into one intelligence solution, giving us the ability to identify both positive and negative trends.
