New Requirements Hey Key Clubbers! We’ve had a great start to this year, with a lot of activity in

the club. However, the officers have noticed that a few people are

volunteering constantly, while some of the club members don’t participate

very much. We want all of you to get as much out of Key Club as possible,

but you’re got to put in some effort.

Being part of Key Club looks good on your college apps, yes, but wouldn’t it

be better if you could back that up with a few stories about your experiences

helping others?

To encourage high standards of participation in our club, we’re instituting

some new requirements- to list yourself as a Key Club member on a resume,

application, or anything else official, we ask that you:

- attend at least 1 meeting per month

AND

- participate in at least 1 community service event or project

For most of you, this will not be a problem at all. If you’re participating in

a sport or have some other conflict, just talk to one of the officers and

we’ll work it out for you. We want to make this work for you! This isn’t

about kicking people out, it’s about setting a standard so people

understand what it means to be in Key Club.

September

Outstanding Leader: Jaykrishna Dave

After seeing fewer and fewer people signing up to volunteer at the food bank

on Wednesdays after our meetings, Key Club was in desperate need of

someone with the enthusiasm to jumpstart the program. Jay, who has often

helped at the food bank in the past, volunteered to be in charge of recruiting

volunteers every week. At the meetings, he reminds everyone about it and

energetically asks them to volunteer with him. Jay himself volunteers almost

every, if not every, week and sets an example of dedication for the rest of the

club. His passion for service is evident in his promotion of this opportunity

to serve our neighbors.

Outstanding Volunteer: Alfredo Pena

Alfredo is always enthusiastic about volunteering for Key Club activities.

During the September yard cleanup, he worked hard to ensure that some of

our elderly or unhealthy community members wouldn’t have to worry about

being unable to maintain their yards. He’s not afraid to volunteer to work

with people he doesn’t know, or on projects he’s never done before.

October

Outstanding Leaders: Sarah Tracy and Hannah Cline

Sarah and Hannah took charge of this year’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

effort. They organized a party afterschool on a Friday, and transportation up

to the Ridge afterwards for club members to start trick-or-treating. They gave

a presentation about what UNICEF is all about, so that club members could

explain to people that their donations of quarters and dimes would help pay

for vaccinations, essential vitamins, and supplies for education and clean

water for children around the world. All in all, they led a very successful

project!

Outstanding volunteer: Lexington Tredway

The son of the president of the local Kiwanis (Key Club’s parent

organization), Lex took advantage of Key Club’s opportunities during his

first couple of months at Mount Si. He participated in the yard cleanup in

September. In October, he went to Key Leader Weekend, a Kiwanis-

sponsored leadership camp at Mount Hood Kiwanis Camp in Oregon. He is

energetic and charismatic, great qualities of a natural leader.

Key Clubbers of the Month

Fantastic job, everyone!

meeting to claim your prize!

Thanks to the wonderful help of some Key Club volunteers,

visitors to the Halloween Haunted House got a good scare.

Wouldn’t you scream if one of these lovely ladies jumped out at

you? Thanks to all the volunteers, and especially Kayla and Heidi,

the wonderful leaders!

On that note…

Congratulations, Heidi! Thanks in part to her dedication to Key Club as our official club

photographer and as an organizer of the Haunted House

volunteers and our Relay for Life garage sales; Heidi DeHart was

chosen as the Outstanding Student of the Quarter. She does a

great job of keeping the club informed of updates on her projects,

and motivating them to participate. Thanks for all your hard work!

That’s Heidi!

Upcoming Events Salvation Army Bell-Ringing- going on now

Now through Christmas, you can stop by either QFC or Safeway in

North Bend (other locations coming soon), pull the red Salvation

Army kettle outside the front doors, and ring the bell for as long as

you’d like to raise money for those who need it right here in the

Snoqualmie Valley. Be as festive as you like- carols and Santa hats

draw attention!

Holiday Garage Sale- December 4th and 5th (tentative)

We’re hoping to have our second annual holiday garage sale to get a

jump start on fundraising for Relay for Life. You can collect books,

toys, gift items, holiday decorations, tools, clothes, and furniture (in

good condition) and bring them to CTT Destinations in

Snoqualmie, next to Got Rice. If you have questions, would like to

volunteer to ask a local business for donations, or need your items

picked up, contact Heidi DeHart at [email protected].
