Shoulder key points
- Muscles of the rotator cu – Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor,
and subscapularis.
Supraspinatus – Runs along the top of the scapula and pulls the humerus bone
laterally towards the midline of the body.
Infraspinatus/Teres minor – run from the back of the shoulder blade to the
humerus. They are both responsible for externally rotating the shoulder. Pull down
on the humerus.
Subsacpularis – runs from the underside of the scapula and assists in internally
rotating the shoulder. Pull down on the humerus.
Internal/External rotation
- The Teres Minor and infraspinatus muscles perform external rotation of theshoulder.
- The Pectoralis major, latissumus dorsi, subscapularis, and teres major all
assist on internal rotation of the shoulder.
Sprain – a tear in the ligament.
Strain – a tear in a muscle.
Avulsion – a tear that pulls the tendon o the bone from its insertion point.
