What is BTEC Applied Science Level 2 ?

•Designed to provide science to learners in situations linked to possible careers involving science without A level science.•It contains a number of Units and you will study three to achieve the Certificate and then a further three to achieve Extended Certificate.•The course is designed to be of help to people who may go straight into a science linked career without A level science.

What is BTEC Applied Science Level 2 ?

• It contains some of the material found in the GCSE Science.

• There are no external examinations.• By the end of the Extended Certificate, you can get

the equivalent of TWO GCSE grades for Science.• It is easier for you to get higher grades in this,

compared to GCSE Science.• You CANNOT go on to ‘A’ Level Science

tests available November, March & June – Retakes possible

• 40% internal assessment by 10% practical skills & 3 x 45 minute tasks

• Worth ONE GCSE (A* to G)• You will then follow GCSE Additional Science for

your second GCSE

GCSE Triple Science• Designed for students who work and Levels 6 and 7

at Key Stage 3• Achieved by 6 extension topics• 100% external assessment by 3 3 structured papers

available June each year – Retakes possible• Worth a THIRD GCSE (A* to G)• It is planned that 20% of students in the Country

choose Triple Award Science• However, Colleges prefer 2 good grades at Double

award rather than 3 low Triple grades
